We had high hopes but ended up disappointed overall. Here are the hits and misses (mostly misses): Great chips, awful salsa. Watery and bland. Total disappointment. Just because it's free doesn't mean it has to be v8 with some onions and cilantro mixed in. Definitely a miss. Black bean burrito: get that hot sauce, you are gonna need it solely for flavor. The ranchera sauce s is tasted suspiciously like ole El Paso enchilada sauce from tin. A miss for me on its own, passable if you add the hot sauce. Chicken tacos: "good". Not great. Tortillas not warmed up properly. That hot sauce they give you comes in super useful just to get some flavor because on its own it just isn't doing much. He ate them all but that was hunger more than enjoyment. Again a miss without the sauce. Mango and strawberry mojito: actually good! Nice flavor, not too much sugary mix. A hit! Something to note: They have this roving band of musicians that go around to tables and play music. Instruments and all. If that's your thing then maybe that's a reason to stop by for a drink but if it's not for you then at least you are aware. Nothing I would come back for. 3/5 but more like 2.5/5. read more

We stopped in and decided to go with the sampler platter, and it did not disappoint. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The wings in particular stood out -- great flavor, cooked perfectly, and not overly sauced. Service was friendly and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, even with the crowd. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual, and exactly what you want when you're craving comfort-style Mexican food with a twist. I came here for just a drink on a Saturday night and loved the vibes so my friends and I came back for my birthday brunch the next morning. We were sat immediately and greeted by our server quickly. Chido's is that girl! I've been on two different occasions and both times the food and drinks were delicious! The first time I went I split the fajitas with my husband and got some queso dip. The second time I got the empanadas and the tacos Mexicano. The empanadas really took me by surprise as I was expecting run of the mill empanadas. But the empanadas and the dip/salsa/sauce it comes with really takes it up a notch. Most recently I came on a Sunday towards the end of the brunch timeframe and there was a DJ playing solid music. I sat outside this go round and it was a nice vibe. The DJ had a speaker outside so you could hear the music outside too. Overall the waiters are pretty attentive. Came to Chidos to take advantage of their happy hour. We barely made it in sitting down at 5:50 when it's over at 6:00. There was scattered seating at the bar but the bartender came over to us immediately and gave us menus. Since it was so happy our time we accidentally happy hour menu and he quickly gave that to us after looking at his watch. I noticed a young lady's next to me had a huge frozen margarita and I was curious if that was the $5 margarita on the happy hour menu but the bartender said, no way lol. All good, they have multiple flavors of margaritas to choose from such as classic, mango, passion fruit and I think there was another as well. But I decided to go with the passion fruit and it was an 8 out of 10. A little sweet but it sure was strong. I do feel like these Margaritas are pre-made because I didn't see any shaking didn't hear anything but all of a sudden another one popped up after I ordered the second. I wanted to get something I know I would like and that was easy and hard to mess up so I was looking out said the question and they came out quickly along with the quesadilla we ordered which was also on the happy hour. They also have a sampler platter that iif I'm back at this location again, I would definitely choose so that I can try a couple different things. I have been to their Laurel location so it was good to try a different location. When I was down this way sunday, the music was so loud when we left the restaurant we ate at we couldn't help but dance to it. They have a speaker outside on their patio area that place Latin tunes. The music also switch to some hip hop as well. Don't ask me to bring out my Bachata shoes because I will show up every time LOL They also offer brunch and I could have sworn I saw people smoking hookah while I was in the area on sunday. Overall your typical classic Tex mex family friendly spot. On the sunday they had a DJ which I thought was nice. Drinks weren't anything to rave about. The birria tacos lacked flavor in the consommé which most do but the beef was very flavorful. I loved the tacos were crisp and double layered which made it easy to eat. I really like Chido's. We have been there twice. Each time we went, the music was on point. I felt like I was at a bar/club with good Tex Mex. I got the Fajitas during both visits and thought that they were pretty good. The prices are also decent for what you get. The service has been good so far. Drinks are also tasty. Met up with a new friend here from a networking event for happy hour and we were very pleasantly surprised with the happy hour specials and prices. The restaurant atmosphere is like many traditional Mexican restaurant. We got a taco sampler which were four different meats. My favorite was the steak and if I go back, I would probably get something that is all steak. But all the meats were good. The mango margarita was delicious! So I'm a fan of Tex-Mex and I feel like it's kind of hard to get around here. My friend and I recently tried Chido's and I think I might have found my place! We both got the combination plate with three items. I chose a Beef enchilada, Veggie enchilada, and Chicken tamal. It also comes with rice and charro beans. The beef and veggie enchiladas were both excellent - the fillings were delicious (even the veggies, which are sometimes kind of bland) and the two different sauces were great, even if a bit salty. I'd get both of those again. I wouldn't say the same of the chicken tamal - while there was enough chicken filling (a common complaint among tamales), the masa was super soft and kind of...squishy. It was like eating baby food. Loved the side of beans and thought they had a great flavor. Overall, I think it's a great new addition to downtown Silver Spring. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday before catching a show at the Filmore. We had reservations and got seated right away. The restaurant had a nice bar area to catch the games and plenty of seating. For drinks, we ordered the strawberry margaritas on the rocks with salt rim. It was quite tasty. Complimentary chips and salsa were given to the table and for food we ordered: the chicken fajitas, tacos el pastor, and Chido's Salad. Great value!! This is new to the Silver Spring area and the fajitas were very delicious! Not as expensive as your usual Tex-mex restaurants and the portions are great. I will definitely come back here. The venue is very large with lots of room for big parties. We came here as a party of 15 and were seated immediately. We visited on the opening night and enjoyed it. Staff was very friendly and service was great. I ordered the 10 ounce strawberry margarita and loved it, though it was not served in a margarita glass, disappointingly. It was strong. Chips were warm and a thicker style, which I prefer. Salsa is good. I liked my vegetables fajitas, but the vegetables needed more seasoning. Also, there were baby carrots, which weren't fully cooked, and it should have bias-cut carrots cut for fajitas, so that was weird. The beans were good, but also underseasoned, though the white rice was perfect. They forgot the shredded lettuce on my side plate of pico de gallo and guacamole. No Mexican butter either. Also, the beans were refried but were supposed to be a la charra with the fajitas. I understand this was opening night though. My boyfriend enjoyed his burrito. The music in the bar was very loud, though it was mostly contained to that area. Overall, the restaurant was still loud though--not comfortable for conversation or those who are sensitive. We've been looking forward to Chido's opening, especially as I've enjoyed the Laurel location, so we'll be happy to return here. read more

Went to celebrate a birthday recently --first time, never been. I only gave 3 stars because I wasn't too impressed. It's definitely a family friendly spot, but it had a bar for the game watchers, etc. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa--forgot to take photos! It looked and sounded delicious and I will say it's a lot on one dish, definitely shared and left over lol but the pork wasn't great nor was the arepa. I honestly only ate the steak but I'll be fair and say service was very accommodating and friendly and to have served such a big group was appreciated. Their birthday song is quite the performance haha and I did have their Frozen Mango Margarita which was really good. I had a sip of the Coconut Mojito too, delicious! I used to work around DTSS and have been wanting to try Chido's for the longest time, last Sunday I finally got to. It was Mother's Day so it was quite busy, but the dinning room wasn't full so I was surprised by the fact that our server didn't seem to have much time for us. She was sweet and polite but I had to keep flagging her down, as she hardly came by on her own. The vibe was good and music was entertaining. Now for the food, the empanadas were incredibly tasty and crispy, the passion fruit margarita was a flavorful and I loved the portion. I got the grilled steak chimichanga, I wish it had been more fried, I felt that it lacked crispness, the rice it was served along with looked a lot better than it tasted, it was bland, and the beans were cold. My friend got the lomo saltado, instead of being stir fried, it's like the beef was boiled, which made it have a very rubbery texture, it also lacked flavor, and the way the sauce was poured over the entire dish made the fries soggy. read more

Hubby is a native Texan and I lived in TX for 20 years plus or minus, so we've been missing good Tex-Mex. Alas, we are still missing good Tex-Mex. The best thing here was the margarita. It wasn't the best margarita I've ever had by a long shot, but most margaritas around here are downright terrible and these were decent. It gets 3 stars just because of the decent margarita, otherwise it would be 2. On the food side, we weren't impressed at all. He ordered a chicken chimichanga I believe, I ordered a combo that had a cheese enchilada with tomatillo sauce and a shredded beef taco. The rice and beans were both bland. The taco shell came from a box. The enchilada was completely congealed. No heat in anything at all. The chips were ok, the salsa was a runny tomato juice mess with again no heat to speak of. I only ate half my dinner and didn't bother taking it home. I almost NEVER leave food at a restaurant, I am all about the leftovers, but these did not have a favorable flavor to calorie ratio so I didn't bother. Neither did hubby. Oh well. We'll stick to getting Oaxacan enchiladas in Wheaton at Sabor Mixteco, new mex enchiladas from Anita's in NOVA and fajitas from Uncle Julio's and keep up the search for good Tex-Mex enchiladas nearby. read more

A new spot that has entered Silver Spring's dining scene. I stopped by to grab a quick frozen margarita in while running errands. First, this place is HUGE. I think this might be one of the largest restaurants in the area. Since I was traveling solo, I grabbed a spot at the bar. My bartender was super friendly because he immediately handed me a menu (which was expected) and a basket of chips and salsa (which was not expected). The restaurant has a nice selection of frozen margaritas. I went with a mango strawberry margarita. I thought the margarita was great because it was a bit potent while not being TOO sweet. The 24 oz margaritas were about $16, which I think is pretty reasonable for the area. Since I was not super hungry, I went with the empanadas appetizer and was very impressed. For $9, you'll receive three empanadas. Although they were not the best empanadas that I've had, the salsa that came with them was AMAZING. I wonder if Chido's plans to sell that green salsa because I could put that salsa on all of my dishes in my regular life. I hope in the near future, that I will have the chance try some of Chido's platos fuertes. Also, I hope this place sticks around for a while. I have to admit that I am a bit worried because the restaurant is HUGE, but I did not see that many people dining in the restaurant. I would say that the restaurant was at 10% capacity. I saw this place had a happy hour and "Margarita Wednesday" special going on, so I came to see if this place was good. Due to the time of day, the place was fairly empty. However, the emptiness gives me a better visual on what the vibe is like without people being around. It's honestly okay, it's nothing special when you walk in. The restaurant is clean but I personally didn't notice anything that that makes you want to look into their window and wish you were eating there. I sat at the bar with a menu a host had brought with me. I waited a few minutes for one of the bartenders to talk to me about their special for today, but instead I had to ask about it myself after someone came over to attend to me. When he gave me the happy hour/special menu, he disappeared and never came back. I sat and waited for a good 20 or so minutes before I had to call over one of the "bartenders" (not sure if they are) to order my food. At this point, I'm not sure this is a regular bar where people can clearly see you're waiting and they'll ask if you need something or if everything is okay. I was making eye contact with one of these people for a good while and she wasn't doing anything until she got told to put in order in for me. When you sit down, you're given the usual chips and salsa that you'd expect from any Tex-Mex restaurant. Unfortunately the chips didn't feel fresh at all! They were pretty cold, like the kind you get from the grocery store! I was pretty hungry so I still ate most of them, they weren't bad but not worth anything. They're free so I guess you get what you pay for, but from the other restaurants I've been in, I'd expect a bit more effort. The salsa was also pretty standard. I got the $10 street tacos that are a part of happy hour. They are shredded beef tacos with a soft shell. The flavor was actually good, but the shredded beef was too chewy. The plating was a little odd because the lettuce was on the very opposite side of the other vegetables and I didn't even see it until near the end of my meal. I got a $5 frozen strawberry margarita, which I'm surprised they get out of a machine like it's a smoothie. If it's so low effort, then I don't see why I had to wait so long to get any drink! It was pretty good though! Overall, I felt the service was pretty inattentive. With how the bar operates, I'm surprised there's even a tipping system when nobody gives you any service worth tipping for. I'd probably come back for the margaritas every now and then since they're $5 (very cheap!!) and they taste good! The food itself had good flavor too, so I'd probably give other happy hour menu items a chance. read more

Chidos is a new Silver Spring eatery located in Downtown Silver Spring, where the Eleanore was located. The theme is Tex-Mex. The dining and bar areas are theme-appropriate with a nice open feeling When you are seated, they serve you chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was really good. There was a brunch menu. It looked very good. My only complaint is that if you offer brunch, you should really serve coffee, which I was told was not available, though it lists it on a card on the table, so this may be a case of new servers figuring things out. Looking at the regular menu, there really was something for every one. Here, my only complaint is list salads prices without protein, then list proteins as add-ons. That being said, the food was very good, both in flavor, presentation and freshness. That staff was very polite and attentive. I thought the prices were quite reasonable for Downtown Silver Spring. Definitely worth the time, effort and expense to try and welcome this new eatery. read more
