    Duck Nachos
    Wil C.

This is a casual and trendy Mexican Restaurant to enjoy with friends or a date whom you would like to be in the dimly lit intimate space. Their staff is very attentive and one of the owners was very helpful with tequila flight suggestions and two samples. Still the food was more average than memorable. The Chorizo Queso Fundido was quite lacking in delivering a kick in flavor and solidified into lumps of hard cheese rather quickly. The tacos and chimichanga were okay, both could've used additional spices/flavoring to kick it up a notch. The Duck Nachos is a standout appetizer and is large enough to serve as a full entree. The duck was tender, flavorful (slow cooked), and plentiful within the dish.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. To start they bring out chips and salsa. Both were tasty, but the chips were cold. I personally like when you get fresh warm chips at a restaurant, but it wasn't a huge deal. I ordered the duck tacos and a side of mexican rice. The rice was delicious! The tacos were also delicious, but $13 for two little tacos is egregious. It's $4 to add a third. You're also not allowed to mix and match tacos which I think is a little ridiculous, I always like getting a few different flavors. My fiancé got the quesabirria tacos which were also delicious. Overall the food was great but waaaaay overpriced for the quantity that you get.

Came during happy hour (starts at 3pm I believe) and had a great experience! FOOD 4/5 I got the happy hour taco special and for the price it was amazing! I definitely enjoyed the shrimp one more than the chicken. I would've been perfectly satisfied with one order but I took my leftovers and ate them later and it was still great! They start you off with chips and salsa which I loved. I believe they only offer happy hour menu at the bar. DRINK - I got 2 vodka mules ($7 each). Definitely felt like it was 2 drinks in one cup so I was 100% happy with that SERVICE 5/5 super attentive and friendly AMBIANCE - no complaints. Nice cozy spot and they played the music on the louder side but I personally loved it Will totally be back for happy hours

Grilled chicken quesadillas, sour cream, pico de gallo and guacamole

I'm proud to say that I have now ordered or had delivered chicken quesadillas from every available option in Bethesda. And the winner is..... you guessed it. Either the portions are too small or too heavy. Either bland or overwhelming. Either undercooked or overcooked. Gringos and Mariachis makes their quesadillas perfect in every way. Flavorful, generous, melted but not too stretchy, and the shredded chicken... mouth watering. Best quesadilla award goes to Gringos and Mariachis. I'm definitely going to try the rest of their dishes and will only order their quesadillas in the future! Thank you so much!!

This will be a short and sweet review. I dropped by Gringos & Mariachis because I had some time to kill before going to another event in the area, so my visit was very brief. By brief, I mean I had only one drink - a paloma margarita. Overall, I thought the bartender prepared my margarita very nicely because it had just the right mix of booze, sweetness, and bitterness. Although I informed the bartender that I was just staying for a quick drink, she offered me chips and salsa. In general, I thought the restaurant was a pretty chill yet active place. Since most of the tables were full during my visit, I'd assume that this restaurant/bar is pretty popular, which is a good thing. Looking forward to returning in the future to actually try some food...and more cocktails.

Sat down at the outside-ish bar thinking it was alatri bros. Wanting to enjoy the weather, we remained at the bar for dinner. Chips and guacamole here are amazing. The birria quesadilla were yummy but you should def share them. We wanted to try something new so we order the steak and shrimp sushi. I would definitely not order that again. White sangria was very yummy

I had heard many things about this place and have passed it many times on my way to work so I decided to try it one night for dinner. I went on a week night so I didn't have any trouble getting a table. The staff was friendly and my server was accommodating. That being said the service felt a little bit transactional and not so personal. I had managed to make it in time for happy hour so I ordered one appetizer from the happy hour menu and one entree. I was given a small serving of chips and salsa to snack on while I waited for my food to arrive. The salsa was a mild spice and a good thicker consistency which I liked since a lot of places I have tried in the past had salsa that was kind of thin and watery. For my appetizer I ordered the Birria Empanada which was pretty good. The flavor was nice and the meat was nice and tender and the consomme complimented it very well. I will say that I was a little bit surprised when it came to the table and it didn't look like a traditional empanada. It was made in an egg roll wrapper instead of the traditional shell you would expect an empanada to be made in which is what I prefer but it was still good. My entree came shortly after. I ordered shrimp enchiladas (they are originally made with chicken but I had them substitute it for shrimp which was an additional charge) which came with a side of refried black beans. The enchiladas had a red sauce which had a tomato type of flavor that I liked and the shrimp were decently sized and cooked perfectly. The beans were nicely seasoned and not too dry (sometimes refried beans can become a little bit dry and pasty when prepared). For the most part I had a good experience here and I would like to come back to try some of the tacos!

Killer Old Fashioneds, Crowded Vibe - Gringos & Mariachis (Bethesda) I was here last night for a networking event hosted by USA LOANS, and this was my first time at Gringos & Mariachis. The star of the night for me? The old-fashioned. The bartender crushed it -- proper ice cubes, solid bourbon, Angostura bitters, and even flamed the lemon peel to express the oil. It was so good I immediately ordered a second one. The venue is stylish and clean and has that modern, moody vibe you want from a Mexican spot. The event was well-attended, and I tried the chicken tacos -- small, fresh, and served on what tasted like soft, fresh flour tortillas. Delicious. Here's why it's four stars and not five: * Ventilation: There was a heavy grilled-food smell in the air, which I usually love, but after about an hour, I started feeling uncomfortable from the smoke in the space. My throat even started to choke up, which is why I left earlier than planned. * Crowded Space: It felt pretty tight for an event like this. Tables were pushed aside, but it still didn't flow well. * Bathroom Bottleneck: The bathroom situation was rough. Lines formed quickly, and while I didn't wait long myself, it was awkward having people tugging at the door while I was in there. That said, the drinks were exceptional, and the food I did try was tasty. This is definitely a spot worth visiting for a casual night out or drinks with friends -- just be ready for a busy, high-energy atmosphere.

Gringos is a perfect spot for a date night, just the right lighting and a nice ambiance. Found this restaurant while looking for a special for National Margarita Day and I'm so glad I chose this place. 10/10 carne asada tacos!!! The steak was so well seasoned and flavorful, do yourself a favor and add a 3rd taco - it's worth the $4. These are my favorite restaurant carne asada tacos in the DMV right now. The green rice was also good. Salsa was fresh and not spicy, though chips were a little tough. The house margarita was $8 for National Margarita Day and it was a nice pour leaving me feeling warm and tingly after only one. Service was average, no complaints at all.

My friend and I went here for happy hour, and it did not disappoint. It was well decorated with warm service, and it was not too busy for a Friday afternoon. We started with complimentary chips and salsa, then we ordered drinks. I had the skinny margarita, and it was delicious. To eat, I had the shrimp tacos, and my friend had the birria empanada. I was pleasantly surprised by my tacos (because I'm pretty particular about my tacos), and my friend loved her empanada. I'd definitely come back to try their full dinner menu.

We were 15 of us on a busy Friday evening . Loved their jalapeño margarita, nachos and salsa. We ordered the chorizo stuffed dates . Yummy . Their duck taco was excellent . Loved their avocado cilantro chicken soup . We also got the duck tostadas .Our other friends ordered veg fajitas , fish , veg sushi . All in all very good experience. Love to visit again .

    Chicken Sopas and Carnitas Tacos.

My Michelada was great, crisp and tasty. Patty gave great service and an even better recommendation to have the chicken sopas, and I also ordered the carnitas for happy hour. The plating was elegant and the dishes were a good balance of citrus, savory and spice. The only thing is that the chips were kinda stale. All in all, a very good experience.

    Chicken Sopes

Frank is the absolute best! The birria rolls are to die for! A must try another thing to try is the Chicken sopes.. delicious. Bathrooms are clean too.

We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation with Brandon, the bartender. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with waffle fries, and the person with me had the Reuben with tater tots. The Reuben was perfectly proportioned to the bread, and we were both very happy with our meals. The crab cake was the standout for me, not overcooked, not dry, and seasoned perfectly. I highly recommend it! One thing I learned quickly in Maryland is that Old Bay seasoning goes on just about everything. I do like Old Bay, but for me it's best when cooked into seafood rather than added afterward, as it can be a little salty. Overall, a great casual spot with friendly service, good food, and a lively atmosphere.

Note: This review was deleted on Google, either by Google or by Tommy Joe's. I am posting it here…read morebecause I must bring awareness to my experience. The disrepect and lack of understanding from customers, staff, and management towards our group--a group of minority-background students--was frustrating and unacceptable. In short, we were harassed by two other guests, racially and sexually. However, easily more upsetting was management's handling of the situation. We had expressed to the bartender our concerns, and he brushed it off, saying he couldn't do anything but would get the manager at his convenience. Unfortunately, the harassers were never removed from the premises. After they left (on their own after half an hour and disrespecting our group as laid out above), we confronted the manager again, upset that he didn't have them removed like we asked. We tried our best to convey the urgency and seriousness of the harassment, but he got in our faces and yelled that we had too much to drink. We each had one drink. He said he would kick us out. This was extremely infuriating. You said you didn't have the power to remove the racist and creepy men who threatened us but now you can remove us right away for being upset about it? Bullshit. We later talked to the manager, Duffy, about our experience. I cannot stress this enough, both him and the bartender fail to understand the experience and emotion of being the victim of harassment, either as a minority or as a woman. Both the fear it brings you and the anger you feel inside. I could not believe it when he, as a white man, said "yea i've faced racism too", and that we need to stop being so upset. You cannot speak for our, a minority, experiences. You cannot tell us not to be angry when facing the type of disrespect we just experienced. You say we were aggressive but you fail to understand we were upset and expressing our anger at the situation in which we were genuinely prejudiced against. You also accused a young woman for being agressive when she had to stand her ground to ask for help when she was being harassed by other men on the premises. When i expressed that it is the bartender's (and all of staff!) job to keep customers safe, he said "no its not his job. His job is to make drinks". This to me is extremely poor management. Yes his definition is to produce drinks. But as an employee of a public establishment serving guests of all kinds, there needs to be a standard upheld from ALL levels. What kind of establishment dismisses the safety of their customers? The security lead, Keith, ensured us that if there was a problem, we should notify him on the first floor. This was a very kind gesture, but also begs the question: why didn't the bartender point us to security or call them? Clearly, that would have been more effective than doing nothing. Not only was our group harassed unjustly by two guests, we were treated unfairly by the staff, who did nothing to remove the harassers and instead dismissed our pleas for help. It is their responsibility to keep customers safe from harassment!!! This is absolutely insane, and I hope the owners and management read this and UNDERSTANDS THE REASON FOR OUR COMPLAINTS AND ENSURES THIS CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN, TO ANYONE.

I've had this review in DRAFT for a while, to allow time for rumination as to the final rating…read more.. On the one hand, there are some very positive aspects to Beth's, situated in downtown about a 10 min walk from the Bethesda Metro Station. Turn off Old Georgetown Road onto Fairmont Ave, and the first thing you encounter is a beautiful outdoor patio for al fresco dining and a large bar. The colors are vibrant with a focus on Southwestern earth tones; very reminiscent of a cafe you'd find in Sedona. It was still on the chilly side when my dinner group gathered, so we opted to sit indoors. There is a small waiting area in the foyer, and then a moderately sized bar, which leads into the main dining room. TBH, the design asthetic of the space is a bit of a "mishmash." Is it supposed to be European inspired? A continuation of the Southwestern motif? It's all a bit odd... We had about eight in the party, so staff pushed together two tables for us. We were greeted promptly and were told that the restaurant could accomodate individual checks, as ordering is done with handheld devices. My other observation about Beth's is, I'm not quite sure what "story," the place is trying to tell. The menu focuses on "Bites," which could be interpreted as "appetizers" and only has four "plates," aka "entrees." Our server mentioned while awaiting our orders that Beth's wants diners to share the "Bites" with a spotlight on their cocktail selections. So is Beth's trying to be a tapas bar then? I opted for the recommended Purple Rain which consists of Gin, lavender, lime; mostly because I LOVE a nice herbal Gin. The distinctive flavor of juniper berries from the gin was present, while the floral notes from the lavendar and citrus of the lime balanced out the drink. I was pleasantly surprised. Food started arriving after about 20 min, and visually the barley risotto was quite appealing. Instead of short or medium grain rice, Beth's uses the ancient cereal grain barley. It is slow cooked in stock to produce that slightly chewy, yet not undercooked mouth feel. USDA choice braised beef short ribs was stewed until fork tender, and the dish was finished off with Parmigiano Reggiano, and butter. For $24, the plate was a good portion size and very tasty. I dunno. I sampled some of the small plates such as the Brussel Sprouts, crunchy ravioli, crispy spring roll...and everything was fine. Not outstanding...not terrible...but just fine. The kitchen seems to be competent, so it would be interesting to see a menu where more main dishes were offered for diners who want a more substantial meal. The other thing I'll note is, due to the extremely high ceilings, the main dining space is a deafening echo chamber. I was hoarse by evening's end, since I was literally yelling over not just the background music, but the other nearby diners. Just keep this in mind that if you're seeking a quiet and cozy spot, either dine outdoors or come early. After some reflection, I settle on 4 stars. Service was good with water glasses constantly refilled, dirty dishes removed, to-go boxes offered, and the ability for separate billing. Price wise, for one alcoholic beverage, and one entree my tab with tax and tip came to a bit over $50. Automatic gratuity was added for the table since we had over 5 people. I appreciate the server informing us so we didn't "double tip."

I finally made it to Beth's and honestly had mixed feelings about the experience. The food was…read moregood enough that I really wanted to love the restaurant overall. The egg rolls were perfectly fried and delicious with the homemade sauce, and the fries were crispy on the outside while still moist inside. Trey was also a great server and definitely one of the highlights of the visit. The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially the outdoor seating area. The patio is bright, inviting, and honestly a much better atmosphere than the inside dining space. Unfortunately, the music inside completely took away from the experience for me. The restaurant has a dark/lounge-style vibe indoors, so the music really matters. Something more universal and upbeat like Motown, 80's pop, or feel-good music would match the space so much better. Instead, the playlist was loud, distracting, and honestly made me ready to eat and leave. I was also surprised that there was no happy hour offered, especially with such a great outdoor setup that seems perfect for after-work drinks and appetizers. Overall, the food and service (thank you Trey) were solid, but the atmosphere inside and lack of happy hour would probably keep me from returning regularly.
