I stopped by because I craved meat, and the Fiesta Fajitas filled the bill and my belly. Nicely seasoned and cooked beef, pork, chicken and shrimp, on a properly sizzling platter. Tasty sides, pico de gallo and guacamole, beans, and rice, plus fresh tortillas. Cordial service, moderate price $18 for a lot of good food. Only a few small hitches away from 5 stars. Tails left on the shrimp, not so good if you're going to roll a mixture up in a tortilla. A few onions cut too close to the end, wound up gnarly. Chips were masa, fresh and not oily, but I really prefer coarse cornmeal for more flavor and texture. It's nice to have an alternative when I'm not in the mood for the excellent pollo a la brasa at the other end of this shopping center, a hidden collection of fine international restaurants, or the delightful papusas a few doors down. Ate here for lunch by myself around 1245pm. I was the only one in the restaurant, wasn't even sure if it was open for business. They seemed surprised that someone came in to eat. I asked if I could sit and eat and for a menu. The restaurant is casual and it is clean with simple Latino music playing. I only see 2 employees working out front. The salsa has a strong onion flavor. The food took an average of time to prepare and was fresh. Everything tasted good. I ordered the Enchilada and crunchy taco with rice and beans. Food was very authentic. It just felt weird being in the restaurant alone and I would have expected a little too much attention which wasn't the case. Very mixed review, some of the food we ordered was fine and some was poor. We ordered guacamole as an appetizer, and it was half sour cream, and half guacamole (Gross). If they didn't have very much guacamole left they should of told us they ran out. Chicken Burrito tasted like a dump truck of salt accidently fell into it. I didn't know this place was aimed towards drinking (Cantina style). We came in for dinner with my fam bam,sat down, and ordered by 8:00 pm, we got out food closer to 9:30 pm. I understand if they are busy and can't really do much without cooks (or so I thought was the problem, nobody ever said anything as to why they were taking so long). When the food finally came out, it was NOT worth the wait. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and it's probably the worse meals I've ever had in my restaurant experience. Late night happy hour? Please sign me up! I stumbled upon this place while going to a different restaurant next door to pick ip my order. I decided to go in and have a drink while i waitnon my order. Its a pretry cool sport bar with large screens for soccer games. There is a full bar and dining. The waitresses were really nice. It seems like an authentic place to dine. I only came here for drinks and they were good. Their margaritas were tasty. There is parking available in the front and ample parking all in the shopping center. There are other shops there as well. Wowwww, um okay where do I start? If you ever happen to pass by this restaurant at least once in your life - you HAVE to get the picadera. It's a dish with ribs, steak, chicken, shrimp, yuca and this sauce that's so good- you'll get addicted!! The caramelized onions are the cherry on top My second favorite dish is the crab and shrimp quesadillas with extra jalapeños on the side and of course the PUPUSAS. Delicious pupusas oozing with cheese; they definitely aren't stingy with it!! One of my favorite Latino restaurants in the area. read more

I was happy with the ambiance when I entered, occasionally the patrons at the bar were singing along with the juke box which kept Nice festive vibe. Chips and salsa came and the salsa was really mild with little flavor. Waitress brought some additional heat which helped a bit. read more

Had the quesadilla which was good, not outstanding. The chips and salsa were very good though. There were only two other people when I went so service was not an issue. My waitress was very attentive. The place needs a serious facelift. It seems quite old and comes off as dirty, which didn't make me feel very good about eating there. I do agreed with the previous review, I was there with my husband who is Hispanic and he wanted me to try Hispanic food but 2 things, food was not good at all, and 2nd our bill was way too high. I noticed that the total was quite large for what we should be paying, she did not gave us a breakdown bill, instead we got just a total, our bill was supposed to be around $32 drinks and food, we got a $56 bill. This was a very young girl she looks like she was 15 and probably working illegally, anyhow somebody should call either the Health or even INS departments to clean this place out. We are living in a hotel and eating out and trying to stay cool. This is close and we wanted dinner without driving much. While we were the only shall we say outsiders in the restaurant, they had LOTS of wait staff and while english is clearly their second language they endeavored to make our meal memorable and it WAS. We each tried something different and each dish was flavorful, hot and the presentation was excellent. There are a BUNCH of TVs and a large projection screen so I imagine it is a great place to go watch a contentious soccer game. They have a full bar with what looks like a decent selection and clearly a large local fan base. While we didn't necessarily fit in, they didn't make us feel like we didn't at ALL. The food here was delicious, it's a privately owned restaurant so i question it's cleanliness. I noticed that there is some mold in some of the menus so i immediately decided to write a review. The food came quick and seemed to be well cooked our plate estrella was a huge plate that they say is supposed to feed 4 but there was about 12 of us and it filled us up! I will start out by saying the food was OK. Just OK the quantity was good. The service was well below average. My main problem with the place is I believe they intentionally tried to rip me off. I was charged for drinks that I did not get, The price for the entrée did not match the menu price. It took several attempts to get them to correct the bill and I believe I was still over charged. I was told there was a problem with my American Express card. I provided a Nother form of payment. On the way home I called American Express and was told there was no attempt to charge the card. I find El Amate to have very good pupusas and the curtido is good as well. Another thing is they have lorocos (pupusas with an edible flower that basically appears as little green specs in the cheese), and I don't find that most places have lorocos, generally just the cheese pupusas and revueltas. As for the other dishes, they don't stand out so much so go for the pupusas! read more

The restaurant is marketed as a Tex Mex restaurant but it's mostly just Salvadorian food with some Mexican inspired dishes added. Service was okay very respectful manager. Music is obnoxiously loud. I never had written a review but this will the first time I do... Three weeks ago my boyfriend and I ordered some food by phone to pick it up, when we get there my boyfriend went inside to get the food and I stayed in the car with my daughter. Because they always take a little longer for our food to be ready I was like ok it passed 10mins and my boyfriend hasn't come out yet. He called me right after asking me to go get him that he was outside but not right outside the restaurant but closed by. When I pulled up when I saw him I was shocked seen him with blood. I asked what happened and he was in shock too and didn't know how to explain what had happened inside the restaurant. I had to called the police and ambulance so they can make a reported about what happened. My boyfriend was attacked apparently with four guys while he was waiting for our food. There was no security guard and the owner or stuff from the restaurant didn't even offered him for help. No one in the restaurant didn't even said what happened or what they saw at the officers. My boyfriend ended up in the hospital because of the several blows to the face and head. He was bleeding a lot from the nose and left with bruises. He didn't had time to see who they were because he was attack by the back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT FOR A FAMILY. Do not take your kids there. Thank God my boyfriend is okay today but the restaurant didn't even helped. read more

Once again this is a cookie cutter type El Salvadorian style restaurant. That doesn't mean that the food isn't good. Because it is. I like the crab and shrimp enchaladas. One thing I notice about these restaurants is that they always have beautiful waitresses in short skirts and push up bras. They will dance with you too. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try El Amate Restaurant, I have heard only good things about both locations. I went on a busy Friday night to their University Blvd location and I was surprised! The quality of the food and the service were outstanding. I had a big bowl of Seafood Soup- "Sopa Marinera" which included all the fresh seafood available in MD! The taste was fresh, just with the right amount of seasoning... Delicious!! The service excellent! I sat down at the bar and watched a very exciting soccer match while the friendly ladies behind the bar asked me several times if I needed another cold Corona or if I needed more napkings.. They were all happy to be there and happy to serve .It was like being a King with all these nice people looking after you! read more

We needed a place to eat that was near our hotel and El Amate filled the bill. The food was tasty, the service good , if a little strange for a couple in their 70s. I refer to the bustiers and short shorts on the female wait staff. But they were all good natured and we enjoyed our meal. Stay away, they tend to overcharge, was there few nights ago and 2 of the guys at the bar were complaining about the amount of beers they were being charge, I too did check my bill and the young waitress had added 2 extra beers, no tip for her.
