Well first off got to apologize. I changed phone so I couldn't get into the app so I've lost my lead status and all of that but that's not going to stop me from rating places. This place I went to this past weekend. I've been there when they first opened so now they've expanded. They've put on an addition and they are obviously going to be playing with a band. However this addition is not air-conditioned. They have fans in there but it's not air-conditioned. If you're a person who wants to have air conditioning while they eat, you probably don't want to come here right now until they finish. For the food not bad, not bad at all. I had a beef burrito. I didn't finish it because it kind of reminded me of a burrito steak and cheese but I've had other things. All of the sauces were good and the black beans were excellent. I'm sure they have a wide and varied menu so I'm sure that you will find something that you like. The staff is not completely good with English but the prices were very inexpensive and they have a carry-out. In fact the carry-out is the biggest part of it. I'd recommend it if you are passing this area and you got a yen for authentic Mexican food. You owe yourself a visit. read more

Today I was craving authentic Mexican food, and what better restaurant than La Chocita to fix my craving. I started with the fresh guacamole make to order. It was delicious. Then ordered a shrimp cocktail. The cocktail was made well and had plenty of shrimp in it. Lastly I had a barbacoa taco that was flavorful. The ambience was great. Exceptional Mexican food in Bladensburg, MD! I came here with my family and was pleasantly surprised. I had a Mojarra Frita, which came with rice, beans, and salad. My family had fajita plates which all looked delicious and fresh. The food was extremely good and we all enjoyed it with the fresh tortillas. We also ordered large juices and they were gigantic! Stopped by for dinner with my husband and we love this place. They have a variety of aqua frescas and drinks but I chose a michelada. It was so tasty and you get to choose your type of beer to go with it. To eat I had the pozole, it came with 3 tostadas in the meal. The portions are actually pretty decent size and we definitely walked away feel really full. Service was good and speedy. We will definitely be back to try something new. read more

La Chocita was a favorite of mine of mine for authentic Salvadoran food. Well it has gone through 2 name changes in just as many years. It changed to Dorita's and it is now it is La Costa de el Sol. Name changes usually means new ownership, which usually means new staff, which means new cooks. Which mean the quality of what I was accustomed to has dropped. For what I was charged, I would have been better off going to Denny's or iHop. read more

About the place itself, they're pretty impressive for being quite spacious and nice decor. I'd give them a 5 for that. However, the quality of their breaded chicken torta gets a 2, giving La Chocita overall average of 3.5 stars. Bolillo bread tasted a tad bit stale. Toppings were reasonably fresh as well as condiments provided. Although the chicken cutlet was sufficiently seasoned, it was dry or tough in some parts enough for me to not only try to bite harder but also clamp on it with my fingers. For $9.53, I had better tortas for the same or bit lower price at other Mexican joints in the area. read more

Took my old lady here for brunch. It was super delicious and our server was sweet and attentive. Loved the decor and plants!

When I politely asked her to bring my other items she said that they don't make it that way...I only asked for a side of lettuce, tomato, and sour cream (I offered to pay). This location looks pretty authentic and cute location. The setting area is very unique and made from all wood tree logs. The kitchen is open space, you can see your food being prepared on site. They have a mini desert and smoothie area. We usually get the steak/chicken tacos which come with two tortillas, diced onions, cilantro and limón wedges. With a side of cucumber, radishes and green/ red hot sauce. We've tried the torta cubana, which is okay. It's a sandwich with ham, breaded steak and chicken thinly slices. Also brings shredded goat cheese, avocado, refried beans and jalapeños. The location is kept clean and organized. Kitchen looks clean and always stocked with drinks. The decoration seems authentic, food is okay. At times service can be slow if dinning in. We always call our order ahead of time. read more

There's plenty of outdoor seating. The red sauce was very spicy. They brought out 3 salsas to choose from. I did have to use my Spanish level 1 skills here. :) the chicken was fantastic, with possibly a sour cream or cheese sauce already on it. Had dinner here yesterday, 5/10/22 and it was so good. We pass this restaurant frequently and always say we should try it, so glad we did! They had a Mother's Day event going on but the restaurant was still open to other guests. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and the chips and salsa (spicy) along with the guacamole were so good. For dinner I got the grilled shrimp that came with the traditional rice and salad, all good. Did not have drinks or dessert, was too full. We were even presented with roses as we were leaving. Sat in the restaurant to eat. We were three people and several tables were open so we sat in one. The fourth seat was dirty and when we asked a girl to clean it she looked at us like "why?! You're only three" and reluctantly did so. The floor all over was dirty. They have terrible customer service as in one of the plates we got came with rice and beans but no rice came so we told them and they brought it without any apology. They went a while without checking on us. They didn't give us spoons for the beans. Never once apologized for anything. The girl was on her phone and distracted most of the time like she didn't want to be there. I understand she might not like her job but her tips are based off of how she serves so you would think she would do a little more effort to hide her discomfort. On our way to our new house, we passed by this place and saw it packed with people. And being somewhat of a taco connoisseur myself, we said we'd come back. We did, and were slightly disappointed. We ordered about 6 tacos, 4 of which were good while the other 2 weren't seasoned at all. GET THE MARGARITAS BC WOW SO GOOD! The guac was too chunky for my taste, and had almost no seasoning. Have any fellow East-Coasters endured visits from those annoying California friends who always claim that, on the East Coast, "There's no REAL Mexican food!" ? Well, if they are visiting you, just prove them wrong by taking them to La Chocita in Bladensburg, Maryland. There's a tented outdoor dining room, which is COVID-safe, though very chilly in winter months... I love the colorfully painted folk art furniture there. Resisting the temptation to order Soft Tacos, I had something completely new to me... they're called "Sopes" and they're little saucer-shaped discs of cornmeal, fried, spread with refried beans and crema, and filled with either beef or chicken... a crispy, delicious way to "eat the bowl." Don't buy a soft drink here, when you can have a homemade Agua Fresca for just over 3 bucks... they're made from fresh fruit, and my Watermelon one was addictively delicious! So take your uppity California friends in here and order them some Mexican Dove, Rabbit, "Pork Lips," "Inner Guts," "Meat Head," or any of this very authentic menu's other delights (They'll never complain to you again)... But there are plenty of more familiar dishes for less adventurous diners to enjoy... Soft Tacos, Enchiladas, and Burritos... So however you roll, don't wait to try this super restaurant! read more

I was surprised by the atmosphere when I went in. From the outside, it looks like a regular old restaurant. Inside it's quite nice. The menu gives good pictures and descriptions. As a Tucsonan, I can say with great delight that this place does it right: Thick flavorful corn tortillas, nicely seared meats, fresh crispy veggies, excellent guac, and the right amount of heat in the salsas (it's gotta make your nose run and ears ring just a bit or it doesn't count). Very fresh, and for normal person prices, not crazy jacked-up DC prices. Plus, the pride in the establishment is obvious - so many lovely potted plants and really unique and nice wooden furniture. My husband and I came here and I was unfortunately disappointed. I wanted to like it but the food did not win my heart- rather it hurt my GI system and I paid for it two hrs later. The meat in our tacos was not flavorful and the carne asada was so tough I couldn't eat more than half my taco- and I HATE wasting food-especially meat. Worse,I found a hair in my quesadilla which the server promptly replaced, but I found a hair! I came to this restaurant just after Phase 2. They have outdoor seating. It's off of busy Annapolis Rd so prepare for that. My friend and I get there and we sat outside. It took at least 5-6 minutes to get a waitress. Once she did arrive she was very sweet. We ordered tacos and margaritas. I've been to many Latin restaurants and the margaritas were great! The margarita I had was by far the WORST I've had ever. I don't even know if their was an ounce of liquor in the drink. We had to ask for a shot, (they gave us 1 shot to share by the way) even though the shot barely gave it a boost. We also ordered a side of rice. The rice was old as it had hard pieces and discoloration throughout. On the positive the employees were nice and bathrooms were spotless! Would I go there again? Probably not. read more

This spot is easily the best taco joint around in the eyes of this expat Texan. I've never had any of entrees - but if you're looking for cheap, delicious tacos similar to what you can find at taquerias in the Southwest this is the place. They have proper al pastor made on a spit! I love coming here whenever I feel a little homesick. It may not be the best of the best when you compare it to spots you can find elsewhere in the US, but they've won my heart. We were visiting schools in this area and decided to stop for a quick lunch. Our server provided us with complimentary chicken soup to start. It was just broth and noodles, but had a very good flavor. I had the fajitas mixtas. I ordered the lunch portion, but got the dinner portion which was huge. The shrimp were huge and even had the flavor of Old Bay. The fajitas were served with black beans and rice. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with this place because it looks and feels authentic but unfortunately the food did not match the Decour. I ordered the fajitas a pretty standard plate and that was good but my buddy ordered the chicken Mole which is a more traditional dish and unfortunately the chicken was not cooked very well.
