It honestly hurts to leave this review, but Chief's today is a shadow of what it was when it first opened. My latest visit will unfortunately be my last. When we entered, the staff didn't even acknowledge us, so we grabbed a few menus and went to find a seat. The guests sitting next to us had to let us know that there was no longer table service and that you now have to order everything at the bar. When we looked over the menu, we noticed it had been significantly pared down to very basic cocktails--a massive disappointment compared to the creative drink menus, milk punches, and rotating selections they used to feature. Hoping to still support a local neighborhood business, I went up to the bar to order, but I was completely ignored by the staff, so we left and headed to Humbug which never disappoints. It is a genuine shame to see how much this place has declined. read more

My espresso martini with reposado tequila is the best espresso martini that I've ever had. There was enough froth on top of the martini which lasted until the last drop. I'll be back. There's enough space for small & large groups in the inside and outside seating areas. The service may be a little slow on Friday nights due to NODA being a popular area on Friday nights. read more

Such a great experience. I went on a Saturday morning not too long after they opened. I was the only customer in there for awhile since it was so early. I was immediately greeted by the friendly young man behind the counter. I asked how the monkey bread pastry is and he highly recommended so I got that warmed up. Ordered a mocha latte and went to find a seat while he fixed my order. Shortly he brought everything over and he was not lying abt that monkey bread. It was delish! I settled into my cozy seat with my book and before I knew it was 11a. This place is truly so cozy time skips by. Since they serve cocktails too, figured since was still there might as well try one, I got the Poloma and it was refreshing, light and delish. Since it is in Noda, there isn't a parking lot, so parking could get challenging the later in the day it gets, but this place is perfect to check out any time of day. read more

Chief's was cool! We stopped by on a slow Sunday afternoon to check out this new neighborhood gem - so glad we did. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks from the menu. I first chose the Tarragon & Tonic. It was good, probably not something I'd choose again, but refreshing. Then, we each described our moods, picked a spirit, and the bar tender went to town! This drink was much more my speed and I really loved it. Bonus that the staff was super friendly and able to make a wide range of drinks depending on the ask. The space is really vibey and intimate. Chief's is good for a date or night you want to have an elevated experience. Wouldn't call it a hangout spot. Drinks are great, though definitely on the pricey side (hello $20 cocktails). That said, I'll definitely be back! Parking is hit or miss in this area, though if you take the light rail, it's a pleasant walk through Noda to make your way here. read more

There was an issue with ordering food through their digital system which was very frustrating; but in the end the staff went above and beyond to ensure our order was fulfilled. The pictures don't do it justice. This beautiful new cocktail bar in the heart of NoDa feels like home, it's cozy, and elegant and classy at the same time. The staff is crazy knowledge and the cocktails are great! Things I have never seen on the menu before like the cheerwine cocktail were amazing. We tried a bunch of different ones and there wasn't a bad cocktail! We also got lucky to try some delicious fresh made cookies and they were literally melting in my mouth! Can't wait to stop for more drinks here as NoDa continues to grow! Also not pictured is the the beautiful outdoor area, so summers should be fun! I do want to mention it is a bit pricey but you are paying for an art form! It's not your average vodka cran or tequila soda so keep this in mind! Chief's feels like visiting a friend's house. And it's intended to. When I asked Bob Peters a year and half ago what he wanted Chief's to feel like he said, "like you've just left my house." And, in that house, you're provided friendly service, a top-quality cocktail (and there are spirit free options), and light bites and snacks full of nostalgia and free of pretense. Chief's will be a cozy neighborhood favorite where you can just show up as yourself without needed to be dressed up to eat, drink, or play. The Clarified Malted Milk Punch is on their list of craft cocktails and it was exceptional. They also have classic cocktails. The sausage plate was delectable in that the sausage was perfectly cooked and flavorful. And the toaster focaccia is baked next door at The Goodyear House, and it's not your classic, soft focaccia -- it's toasted to better hold some of the toppings you'll experience -- such as the pimento cheese with hot honey (which I really liked). I sat at the bar and didn't get to explore much else of the parlour but I will say there's a sitting area like a living room when you enter the bar area as well. There are fire places and more seating beyond the front room that I'll have to check out another day. For what it is and is expected to be - not a full service restaurant, I think Chief's is off to a nice start. read more

We found this place when looking for a vibey cocktail bar to go to and this is definitely the right find for it. We didn't place a reservation so when we got there it was a 1.5 hour wait on a Friday night, but the hostess said to put our number and name down in case someone cancels and she would call and text us. She was right! We waited elsewhere not thinking we would get in but we did after around 40 minutes and I received a text and call from her, so we definitely appreciated her looking out for us. Our experience here was definitely well worth the wait because it was a nice and cozy cocktail place. For the first drink, I got the Yalla which had Hawaiian black salt on the rim and that paired with the drink was exceptional! For the second drink, I wanted to go outside of my comfort zone so I got the Clarified Malted Milk Punch per out waitress informing me that it tastes like a spiced drink, but cold and you can't taste the bourbon which was exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got! I hate bourbon plain but the concoction made it super good that even my bourbon-loving boyfriend loved this drink. The mixture of the cold and spices was great and I would definitely come back to get this drink again. Overall, I'm very happy with my experience here and I will make sure to make a reservation next time. read more

Super cute spot in NODA. They have a lot that you have to pay for unless you get a street parking. My drink was really really good. I told the bar tender to make me anything with tequila & it was definitely a quality drink. My friend got an old fashion & he said it was really good as well. They are on the higher side. My drink in the picture was $17 and the only fashion was $27 I believe. But overall a great experience. They also sell coffee. Very intimate place read more

I dont think I could love Chiefs enough. Bob knows my adoration for him but I will go on. Chiefs is what I would imagine the bar from Cheers to feel like. In Noda in what was once a home I assume, Chiefs has such a pleasant atmosphere. The team here is a family and you can tell they enjoy what they do and where they do it. You cant go wrong with anything on the cocktail menu and everyone is eager to let you try something else they have been working on. But you can only expect the best when it comes to cocktails affiliated to Bob Peters! We also have to talk about the FOOD. I am always hesitant when it comes to a small bites menus, I usually find myself disappointed and still hungry. But the team here is on to something. I dont even know what is my favorite - maybe the world's best bacon (yes, I said it), or the world's best deviled eggs (yes, I said it again) either way you cant go wrong. Love love love this place! Such a warm Cozy feel inside . Kinda like being in your house. Lovely little fireplace area with seating. Lots of little nooks to get a drink and chat with people. Great service too. It's small inside but we went on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole back area to ourselves. Which was nice. The bar area up front has seating and they have a TV for games. Little area off to the side of bar has a nice area for a group too. It's cute for a date night or a girls night or a Sunday funday drop in. Loved that a nice bar in town was open in the afternoon when so many don't open til 5 or don't open at all on sundays. We met up for a birthday drinks get together. They have a nice varied cocktail menu, with some beer and wine too. Loved the interesting creations! There's not much food just some snacks as it's primarily a cocktail bar. We tried the focaccia with hot honey pimento cheese. Delish. Drinks wise we were across the board. Negroni was spot on. El Trueno was a potent sipper. My cynar boulevardier was also strong but so good. The tasty mezcal-culations was a little sweeter than the others but another great drink. All beautifully presented and in the perfect glass for each. This place was a pleasant surprise . Definitely a go back to bar for me. Cheif's is an absolute-must stop for drinks before dinner. I'd recommend reservations right now, since it's very popular with its recent opening. Favorite sips: Rise & Grind with espresso-washed Southern Star White Whiskey; it was super silky on the palate and such a fun take on a basic espresso martini. Great new cocktail bar in NoDa. I enjoyed a French 75 and hubs got an interesting cocktail with tarragon in it. He didn't enjoy it so much so got a beer after. They do offer small snacks and few beer and wine options. Decor is stunning and has true lounge vibes. It's slightly loud, though, with everyone talking but not sure if you can control that. Service was slightly lacking. We never got waters and to get a second round it took a while. Server was super nice though! Not that big of an issue since they are new and working out the kinks still. It's also in an old renovated home which is super cool. Reservations are highly recommended (Open Table) Parking is a headache so give yourself plenty of time or take an uber. read more

Totally knocked it out of the park. This brand new cocktail bar is smack dab in the NoDa neighborhood located in an old house next to The Goodyear House. It is highly recommended that you make reservations as it is very popular although when I was there at noon I did witness some people luck out and walk it for seats at the bar. Everything from the service, to the presentation, to the drinks themselves were top notch. The vibe is very cozy like you are hanging in an old friends house, and while it has an upscale look and vibe, it doesn't feel stuffy as they play a mix of chill house and old school rap so the vibes are great. It seems like cocktail bars are the latest boom in the Charlotte nightlife scene, and it might start to feel crowded, but Chief's for sure is a destination for cocktail lovers and casuals alike. read more

A friend of mine suggested this place and I was really pleasantly surprised by our outing. To start, Ally (Al-E, not to be confused with Al-I, like the bank... sorry for my bad Charlotte Banking joke) brought Me a complementary take on their Negroni, which was delicious. I honestly think that was one of the best "Negroni's" I've ever had. Once we decided on what to eat and drink, my friend got the Pain Reliever, and I got the Grimace, and we also enjoyed some small snacks, the focaccia and deviled eggs, both of which were pretty good. I absolutely loved loved loved and when I say loved, I mean, loved the Grimace. It was just super smooth, had notes of grape (hence the name Grimace) and rosewater and was super refreshing. As you sipped on the drink, you started to get some malty notes.. i tasted a slight berry taste as well. its made with Genever (not to be confused with Jennifer... haha or Gin.. though if you like Gin, you may like this). its super smooth and wasn't overwhelming but gives you the buzz you want, lol. It was like just right. Ally was super friendly and checked on us periodically and engaged in friendly conversation - I jokingly (but kind of seriously) suggested they put a big ol muffuletta (make sure to have a vegetarian version too..) on the menu because drinking definitely makes me hungry but I'm just a greedy gut. Nonetheless I do understand they have a small kitchen and the snacks were pretty good, but I think a crazy big sandwich coupled with the drinks, which were unique and tasty would put this place over the top. I really like the way it was laid out almost like It was very warm and inviting (almost like a cigar room, but with Fresh air .) I know in some reviews some people were not pleased with the price of the drinks, but I have been to other places where the drinks were just as expensive and very watered down and honestly just straight up trash. I think the price was reasonable considering the truly handcrafted nature of the drinks. Anyway thanks for listening. This place has a beautiful interior and great service, but the experience was completely ruined by the blaring ghetto rap music. We asked THREE times for the music to be changed or lowered, and each time we were told it was the owner's personal music choice because "he grew up on it." Here's the thing: the music in a place--whether it's a bar, café, or whatever--is a huge part of the vibe and aesthetic. It's not just background noise; it sets the whole tone of the place. Regardless of your personal music taste, if you're running a business, you have to play music that fits the atmosphere you're trying to create. It's not about tickling your nostalgic memories, it's about providing the right experience for your customers. Music is a major deal-breaker. Sure, some people might just want to drink at a bar, but others are there for a genuine, authentic experience. We literally left after 15 minutes because the vibe was ruined. We were waiting impatiently for Chief's to open from the moment it was announced. We love good cocktails and the neighborhood can always use another fun spot. Unfortunately though, it turned out to be very disappointing. The staff is the only highlight so we gave it two stars for their wonderful service. However that's just about the only nice thing I can say. The mill-home renovation must've eaten up quite a bit of budget because a cheap and slapdash theme pervades the interior decor. In the powder room the wallpaper is sagging from the wall, competing with the dollar-store pictures framed with no glass. Scraps of that same wallpaper are featured, framed (again, no glass) in the hall...giving the place a very thrown together budget motel vibe. Which would be lovely if it wasn't marketed (and priced) as an upscale cocktail Parlor. Then there were the drinks... the menu was uninspired and at least one of our drinks was served in the wrong glass. After sampling three rounds worth of the menu we all agreed that nothing we tried was very good. Then there are the prices. I am happy to spend on a well-made drink, but nothing they served warranted the premium prices. Truly, the only thing memorable about Chief's was the huge bill. To be frank, this place feels like a cynical cash-grab to pick the pockets of the freshly transplanted young professionals with disposable income. We love NoDa and rep our neighborhood hard, which is why we hope Chief's gets it together, or moves on quickly. read more
