Chicken biscuit
Addie W.

I really enjoyed my time at The Degenerate. We had a group of 6 and came in around 11 on a Saturday. There were a few tables seated shortly after us. Even though the restaurant wasn't empty, it's a pretty large space, so it felt kind of empty? My only critique is that the space lacks personality. However, I've never been at night, so the energy might change once the sun sets. But whatever--we were there for the food! Our server was great and very attentive. We were all wowed by our food. Everything was fantastic! I got the Chicken Biscuit, and everything about the meal was perfect. I'm not sure what kind of batter they used on the chicken, but it somehow stayed crispy under all the gravy which was fantastic. Everyone was stealing my home fries, because they were also delicious! Great seasoning, too. My husband got the Waffle Wings which were amazing! I love the idea of the waffle batter--you don't have to deal with cutting up a waffle and chicken and making a mess of your plate lol. The whipped butter was so yummy too. Our friends also enjoyed their breakfast tacos and blintzes. I'm really interested in trying more of their menu! Highly recommend for great food and service.

This place is great to get a late night burger, chips, pork sliders, and fried banana peppers. It's one of the only things open in the neighborhood, so you do have limited choices, but the things I listed have been good every time I've gotten them. I don't recommend the perogies here, as they taste nothing like an actual perogie - it's def their take on it. I usually just grab my food to go here now as I'm not a fan of the orange juice to sparkling wine ratio they give here for mimosas - note, too much orange juice (even when asked to be light on it). Service otherwise is nice, they'll get you seated, get your drinks, and get your food in. Food occasionally takes a while (that's on the kitchen), but most of the time it comes out within 15-20 minutes of ordering. The ambiance is mostly nice. I usually sit at the bar if I stay, so it's normally fairly quite, with the occasional loud person depending on how late it is. Come earlier if you want a quieter feel lol.

I went for dinner this past weekend and it was delicious as always. This place has stayed consistent, for brunch, lunch and dinner. Highly recommend the pierogis and banana peppers for appetizers. So good! This place rarely has a wait, but always has a good amount of people in there. Great spot outside Noda.

My husband and I were in Charlotte for the evening and we took a chance on walking in to The Degenerate. It was a Friday night two weeks before Christmas, but it was only 5:45pm so I feel like we got lucky. We were able to walk in and be seated right away. We ordered cocktails and embraced the tapas menu, ordering too many things to sample and share. We sadly had to leave some of it behind. Our waitress was a sweetheart and though the restaurant space was big and open, the warm wood and exposed brick inside made it feel welcoming and cozy. There was enough room between tables that we didn't feel crammed in and the table was big enough to hold all the delicious goodness. I felt like two top tables can sometimes barely hold your water glass and bread plate. We head to Charlotte pretty regularly for various things, and I would like to bring our teenage boys back sometime. I think they would really like the menu and style of the restaurant. Nice enough for a quick date night before and event, but casual enough that I feel like we could bring the teens and not have to "dress up".

Came here for lunch and a show. Preset menu choices.( Turkish eggs, tacos, burgers, chicken on a biscuit. Friendly service and accomadating staff. Comfortable atmosphere. I ordered the Turkish eggs but the chili oil on the toast so spicey I couldn't eat the toast. The eggs were fine and fruit fresh. My coffee was so strong I couldn't drink it, I asked for tea and enjoyed that. My friends liked what they ordered. One ordered food choices by filling out a card and food brought to the table. Perhaps would return again.

This is THE hidden spot of NoDa. A true shareable restaurant, not your standard "I could have ate 12 of these plates myself", and only have a forkful type of joint. I split 3 dishes with one other person and felt very full and satisfied. The food is fantabulous, the staff is always friendly, helpful and will provide the recommendations. They have a good selection of cocktails, beers and spirits. We were lucky enough to go during their 5 year anniversary where they had some special creations. I would STRONGLY suggest the chef(s) include the Gnocchi Poke as a staple dish. It was amazing. The Barbacoa grits were a little too savorful for what I was looking for, but still delicious. The Brussels were spot on. I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes, everything sounded delicious.

What a debacle. Went here because I visited this restaurant on a previous trip to Charlotte. Everything was fine and I enjoyed that it's one of the few places you can get in quickly that also has parking. However this visit, our service/server was not good. She wasn't thorough when taking orders, and by that I mean she would leave before everyone was done putting in their orders. Or she might leave before you can ask a question. We had a few people order mimosas at our table, and we thought it might be more cost efficient to see if there was a carafe to purchase. We had to chase her down to ask this question. She informed us that wasn't the case but provided some off kilter math that ordering a bottle would be the same thing if not better. 28 dollars for 4 mimosas vs a 38 dollar bottle of champagne. I thought if there was a bit more left in the bottle it might work out. Y'all that's not the same, there definitely wasn't 1.5 more mimosas left in the bottle for that to even be close to comparable. Also on the final bill there was a 5 dollar OJ charge on it for maybe 5 oz of orange juice. I just ask for more transparency and not to feel rushed when making a decision. I was also charged for scrambling my egg and adding cheese. Fine, but let me know when I'm ordering. My food was good, a little salty, but I didn't mind. Everyone else seemed to have dry potatoes but otherwise I didn't hear many complaints. I really do want to like this place. But this last visit threw me and my pockets off.

Lettuce wraps

The two times I've come, this place has been empty. I'm really curious how it looks on the weekend. I enjoyed the lettuce wraps with a red wine. If you don't like spice, skip them. The dry rub wings weren't terrible, but the ranch was interesting--I wouldn't get that again. The sprouts were still tough, but reheating them the next day did the trick. This was a much better food experience than my previous trip! We enjoyed sitting at the bar with the restaurant to ourselves.

We love this restaurant! Delicious food, good service, and a romantic ambiance. Perfect for a special date night. So many good tapas options, it's hard not to order the whole menu!

This is me and my lady's favorite date spot. Great small plates, great cocktails, rotating menu. Service is always quick, too. I do think the interior sometimes feels a bit too "open-concept," if you know what I mean... ...but who cares?! The food is great! Of the stuff that stays on the menu, I really like: the chicken sandwich, the tandoori carrots, the mussels, and the pierogis. As for the current menu: I really like the watermelon caprese salad, scallops, and curry chicken tacos.

This restaurant/bar that serves all meals of the day is one of my most reliable and underrated brunch spots. There are plenty of trendier brunch locations in Charlotte that don't have food or service nearly as good or consistent (my server is almost always Carolina, she's such a delight and very perceptive of my tables needs). Somehow, there's never a wait here. Given the above, there are times that I find myself here several weekends in a row. I've had many dishes here and I've never had anything bad. My favorites are the steak and eggs (served at brunch) and The Degenerate Burger (with beef, pulled pork, cheddar, provolone, confit onions, crispy prosciutto, BBQ sauce). Get the home fries (brunch), they're crispy and the best I've had in town. Update 1/19/25: Still an excellent restaurant, actually had a short wait to be seated as this place seems to gain popularity. The burger has changed entirely (feel free to compare menus on this review from this update and a year ago) and I may need to retract that from being one of my recommendations. The potatoe pave is an interesting side but leaves the center potatoes a bit undercooked. The restaurant also has a lot of extra space that could be utilized if they'd like to add some tables, but this could be intentional.

Wings
Chelsea D.

The wings were delicious! Fried to perfection and the Brussels sprouts were delicious as well. Loved the sauce. Wasn't a fan of the ranch but it was overall pretty good. They have spread out seating and an outside area that's cute for date night. They also close later if you're hungry after 10pm

Lettuce wraps and pierogis

Was in town and walked to a local place for drinks and a bite to eat. We walked in and I had a beer from the air bnb in my hand that I was finishing. Before we could sit, a man walks over without a word and snatches the beer from my hand. Then proceeds to say "you're risking my liquor license" as he is walking away. He doesn't have a conversation, he just accosted me in drive by fashion. Was I in the wrong? Sure. But still should not be treated as such. A few words exchanged and I would have been outside with the beverage and discarded it. I shared this sentiment with the man, who happened to be the owner, and he seemed to listen to me but didn't show remorse in the least. If his concern for outside drink is such, he should have postings to inform patrons outside of the entrances. The beers were enjoyable with a nice local selection. Lettuce wraps had good spice but a bit salty, and the pierogis were enjoyable. Experience would have been a 4 star review if not for the overly aggressive owner. The waitresses were kind and attentive.
