I am having mixed feelings about this place. The peppermint pedicure that I received felt very good, the nail care was done excellent and polish applied perfectly (by technician Catherine). However, the whole place has an "empty vibe" to it. Maybe because it was really quiet inside, no music playing, and not busy? The decor is modern and I actually thought for a minute or two that they were remodeling or so, it was that empty. But I realized that is just their decor. Maybe playing music might liven the place up a bit, and a plant/flowers here or there wouldn't hurt either. Any way, the pedicure room looks out over the Oakway courtyard and that is very pretty. The bench to sit on was not very comfortable and not adjustable, too short for people with long legs. Hence those mixed feelings...... read more

I recently stopped in with my 11 year old daughter because she wanted to get a manicure and pedicure (which they advertise on their window). The blonde front desk lady seemed very unwelcoming and gave us an odd look when we walked in to ask if they gave mani/pedi's. She said yes and then stared at us. So I asked if she could fit us in for appointments and she responded with "Today? Not today sorry" and just smiled. I completely understand about not having availability for walk-in's but how she handled and responded to our inquire was bazaar way of handling potential costumers. Honestly it felt like we walked into a mean girls club. They must not care about making business if they greet people like this. read more

I've only been here for products, but the customer service is so horrible I won't be back. The last time I had purchased something there, I was told I could bring it back for a refund if I didn't like it. The next time I bought the same product, but the receptionist was so unpleasant and when I realized she'd overcharged me by a dollar, I decided to return it (unused, with receipt). Well, I got the same snooty lady and she insisted they couldn't do a return for anything other than in-store credit. She said "Geez!" and acted like she was doing me a favor by refunding the $1 she'd overcharged me. No apology for the fact that I had to come back to the salon to correct her mistake. I believe Chikara when they say they work as a team!! I had my first appt today with Jassmin for a partial color and olaplex treatment, it was fabulous. I shopped 3 salons in town and asked the same questions; if i could see the salon, how many stylists work there, what products they use, and how available booking was. Chikara was the only salon to show me around, Shawn the front desk girl did a great job of answering all my questions and making me feel welcome and important. Jassmin asked concise questions to figure out how i like my hair. She even offered if i wasnt satisfied with how she would do my hair that the other stylists at Chikara were all talented. I have mixed feelings about this place. I went there once at the beginning of 2021 and I loved it. The male hair artist (sorry I can't remember his name) did my hair and I was so happy with it. I was pregnant at the time, he was very pleasant to talk to and I loved the way he layered my hair. I am very happy with his service however, that day I left with a bittersweet feeling from the lady at the front desk who wouldn't even look at me when I was making the payment, she had a very dismissive demeanor. I kinda just let that go and thought that she could be having a bad day. A few months later I called again to make an appointment with the same hairstylist, she answered the phone and this time she was blunter, gave me an appointment with the hairdresser I requested but the appointment was two weeks away on a Sunday at 6 pm. She was very straightforward and condescending so I ended up canceling that appointment because of the way she talked to me. I want to go back and get a haircut but I would rather go elsewhere after that, sorry Chikara I think you could do better. read more

The whole post COVID process was a breeze, though I was initially worried wearing a mask *the entire* time would be hard for the stylist, but Hannah nailed it- I've got a giant jaw and good sized chin- luckily my five head balanced it out. My stylist was so nice, friendly and kind I feel bad speaking negatively. However, great things can come from constructive criticism and one thing I felt she could have been better with is communicating what she was doing. I came into the salon on Friday for a cut and style. I use this salon often and don't usually ask for a specific stylist since they are all more than capable of doing their job. Never had a complaint before. I showed my stylist the picture of the cut and style I was after. She agreed. My hair was all the way down my back and almost to my buttocks. I told her I wanted to go shorter but stay around mid chest with layers. Because my hair is so long and thick it is normal for a stylist to cut some off before beginning the cut so that it's easier to work with. The problem was- she put my hair in a ponytail and chopped at least 8 inches off. Immediately! No questions, just did it. By then there was no turning back. I knew she still had to even it out and Texture it. I sat there and watched all my hair fall, helpless. I didn't even know what to say. The length was gone. No point in saying anything at the time. I did mention with surprise how short it was. Then after the shampoo clarified that we would be taking no more length off. Please, Always cut longer or ask for permission before cutting that amount of length. I was in complete shock. We finished the haircut, after I asked multiple times while she was shaping "we arent going any shorter than that right?" She would always reply no but then keep snipping away. I left with hair ABOVE my shoulders for the first time in 27 years and not by choice. The cut and style is great, it will grow and look wonderful and healthy. But the hair that she threw in the trash could have been donated, especially if I knew we were going this short. I wish she would have left it longer or asked permission before cutting that amount off at the beginning, within the first 5 mins of the cut. My face is rounder in shape. This could have been disastrous with such a short cut. read more

Be specific and look 'em in the eye. I got my hair cut at Chikara yesterday. I have very long hair. She told me that I should have 3 inches cut off. I said "I know it probably needs it, but I only want about an inch maybe a little bit more taken off". Well, as per usual, the stylist thinks they know best. I have naturally curly hair, so it took a while for it to dry and for me to notice how much she truly took off. She took waaaay more than 1 inch off; at least 3 inches. I am not happy AT ALL. I've utilized services at Chikara since 2010 and have spent hundreds of dollars. Generally, I have loved the results and return faithfully for waxes, haircuts, color and products. I've spent the last year working on lightening my hair in a healthy way, taking time to do all over highlights every 4-6 months. As a new school term has started, I knew I wouldn't be able to maintain my new growth and didn't want to do another set of highlights because I liked the lightness that I had achieved. I asked for a *light* demi-permanent color to be applied all over that I could maintain during the term before resuming highlights and to ensure the dimension and lightness would still be evident. What I got was extremely dark red. At the time, the stylist admitted it was dark and hoped that I would be ok with it. I was too shocked to say anything, so I paid and left. I gave it the evening to see if I could deal with the color, but couldn't shake the fact that I was completely broken hearted and my hair color was ruined. I called the following day to express that I hated my hair and ask what could be done. I was scheduled to come in that afternoon for a consult. I was provided with a clarifying shampoo to try to remove some of the color. It helped only a little. I was told that I could reschedule within the week for an all over set of highlights with a different stylist. The current visit and the highlights, I was told, would be free. I arrived at the salon for my correction today. As soon as I sat in the chair I was told that I would actually have to pay for the service because I had asked for an all over color. I was shocked and expressed that this wasn't what I had asked for, not to mention I was already told it would be free and made the arrangements in my schedule to come to the appointment. The stylist reconfirmed with her manager that I would be charged for the service. I said thank you and left. To say that I'm disappointed with Chikara and my experience is an understatement. For one, they didn't even have the decency to call me ahead of time to tell me that they were going back on their word. Finding a salon and stylist that you like can be a challenge. Relationships are developed over time and a financial investment is made in the process. I am sad that this relationship has come to an abrupt, ugly end and I am completely deflated to see such an expensive investment be washed down the drain. I will not return to Chikara. I will advise the handful of clients (whom I have originally referred) to leave as well. It's a shame to learn that I am 'just another customer' and that Chikara will not honor their promise, nor stand by to correct their mistakes. I had hoped for much more from them. read more

The girl who did my nails was really annoying. She talked and talked and talked about nonsense. $30 for manicure seems outrageous when it was nothing special. The nail polish we chose was supposed to last around a week but chipped the next day which is pretty obnoxious since it was for my friends wedding. We wanted to go some place nice and honestly this place was just expensive. They offered us drinks which was pleasant, the guy at the front who welcomed us was very friendly. Tipping was kind of weird, I'm used to being able to put cash tips in envelopes, not just handing it to the person checking us out. Also it seemed a bit rushed when we were waiting for our nails to dry...kind of uncomfortable. The reason it's one star instead of two is because they apparently do wonderful waxing (don't wanna know how much THAT costs) but my friend highly recommends it. Oh! Last thing that kinda ticked me off. We were in a group, they knew this and yet one of the girls in our group was at this tacky table that was more like a TV tray then a place setting to get your nails done. It would have been nice if we were able to get our nails all done next to each other so we could talk but I understand the place isn't set up for that. I main issues with this place is my obnoxious nail girl (can't remember her name, I think of the girls was named Dasha though), the fact they promised our nails wouldn't chip for a week and they chipped the next day and that they are overpriced. I only came to Chikara to get my eyebrows waxed - no massage, no facial, no haircut, no pedicure. So my review is some what limited. I had tried multiple places around Eugene to get my eyebrows done, until I found Chikara & I stayed loyal to them. Cassidy was the best pick. She was so sweet, so attentive and always remembered her clients. She shaped my eyebrows perfectly. The cost wasn't too high; when I went there eyebrows were about $18 without tip. They could always fit me in, even if I called in when they first opened. I never had a problem making an appointment for the same day. I can't recommend them based on any other service other than eyebrow waxing, but they are the best in town. read more

I finally used the gift card I had from my birthday on a Brazilian bikini wax, my waxer was very professional and QUICK!! Very minimal pain involved!!! I have since returned 4 times to keep up a routine. I have seen 2 different girls and both of them are AWESOME!!! I recommend Rene or Catherine I've been in several different times for a dimensional colour application/ and cut, manicure, pedicure, and facial (thanks to my husband for the gift card help) each service wasAMAZING!! These gals really take pride in their work and really know how to pamper you! With a nice glass of wine, warm neck wrap, or yummy herbal tea! Those nice touches really made every one of my services great! I must admit that my favorite service was indeed the facial! It was the ULTIMATE in luxurious pampering! My skin looked and felt great after the facial...even my coworkers noticed my polished features. The facial, a bit on the pricy side, but WORTH IT!! Horrible service from the front desk, to the stylist that charged me hundreds for a full weave that is the worst weave I've ever had. I have gone here off and on for years and sometimes liked how my hair turned out and sometimes thought it was just okay but the last two weaves have been awful. Pricey, nice environment and also nice service, but I was not impressed with the quality of my gels or my hair cut. Altho I did like how gentle they were when cleaning my nails. They used gel removers vs other methods that use a filer and make nails thiner. I did my nails there twice and both times the finish product wasn't very clean. The gels lasted longer than it did for cheap places so they do use good gels. The cream they use for manicures are nice! read more

For the past 5 plus years I have been loyal to Chikara for massages. I had been to many places in Eugene before I settled at Chikara with their masseuse Amy. She is wonderful! I signed up to get a pedicure, which sounded nice from the flyer, and I am seated literally 2 inches away from a middle school aged girl who quite frankly was gross, she hadn't shaved her legs and smelled bad. The lady didn't talk the entire time, felt like she was rushing. My toenail polish looked like hell and I won't be going back anytime soon. For a place that seems upscale, it really wasn't. I knew, after reading reviews on Yelp, that coming here was a bit of a gamble. But I hoped that the salon would have responded to past negative reviews by improving its quality. Unfortunately, not so. I came for a bikini wax, and was definitely disappointed. Lines aren't straight at all, there are missed patches, and she went over the same sections 4+ times, to the point that I'm bruised and abraded -- I've only experienced that once before and see it as a sign of an inexperienced tech. I've been getting waxes for 12 years and consider myself a pretty easy and unfussy client, but I do expect people to take pride in their work, particularly when I'm paying prices comparable with the best wax salons in Portland. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a good place here in Eugene and won't be returning to Chikara. I'm just crossing my fingers that Urban Waxx or Wax On open franchises here in Eugene -- we desperately need some trustworthy, consistent, quality wax salons that take pride in their work. read more

I decided to go to this salon because of all the positive feedback that I saw on this website. I'm originally from Seattle and wanted to find a good place to get my brows waxed. I have seen this place a few times while shopping at the Oakway Center and figured it looked nice and although it isn't a Gene Juarez Salon, I decided to give it a go anyway. I got there just on time for my appointment, but my aesthetician wasn't ready for me. I'm used to having to wait for a while to be called back, sitting down, reading a magazine while I wait, but there was something missing in this salon. There is no waiting area. I had to awkwardly pretend I was looking at all of their products for sale while I waited for 10 minutes until I was called back. The waxing experience was okay, not the best. At the end, I got the mirror like normal and thought it looked fine. Nothing special. I guess the lighting in that room is different than normal lighting because when I got back home, I had to pluck out all the hairs that were missed (which was quite a lot). The reason why I get my eyebrows waxed is so I don't have to pluck them... wasn't too happy about that. Then, when I was getting ready to check-out, that was just another waiting process. The customer in front of me was trying to decide when to schedule her next appointment and was taking quite a long time doing it. The thing that bothered me most is that there were 2 other employees that were standing around the counter just watching. One was on the computer for a while and went back when her customer came through the doors, but I probably had to wait another 5-7 minutes or so before I could check out and finally leave. Although the receptionist did apologize, I still don't understand why the other lady who was just standing there could not help me when I had been waiting a while. Needless to say, I will be looking elsewhere for my brow waxing needs. read more

I had a great massage there along with a facial and it was everything I imagined and more. I also had my make-up done along with a hair cut. The make-up artist was Karen, and she's no longer there, but she did a great job. The hair cut was beautiful and styled wonderfully; however, I had a hard time styling it that great myself and had to go back to receive more distinct layers.
