We were staying in Bethesda recently and we stumbled upon Chiko because we saw a guy carrying the bag up in the same elevator. We asked him if he had tried it before and he said he was actually dropping it off to a room for grub hub, but that it was one of his favorite places. Towards the end of our trip to DC, we were exhausted after 4 days of walking so we came back to the hotel early and decided to order delivery for our meal. I don't recall what my husband got but the Grub Hub guy said to get the fried rice so that's exactly what I did. Holy moly! Maybe this sounds a little too dramatic, but this was probably the best shrimp fried rice I have EVER had. It had so much flavor bursting in every bite. There were tiny bit of diced zucchini (never have seen that in fried rice) chopped herbs, and just a generous portion of egg. The shrimp was breaded and fried and they probably used way more oil or butter than anyone should ever eat in one sitting, but again, the flavor was so incredible. The prices were reasonable considering that one order could easily feed two people. I had leftovers for the next day and was able to warm it up in our hotel room. The experience was pretty much what you would expect from an American restaurant. I ordered the soy glazed brisket. The food came out pretty quickly and was a bit of a let down since it was precooked. It wasn't the best but still... the meat was quite dry and covered with a thick, very salty soy glaze. Loved the house fried rice...the fried shrimp in it is absolutely delicious and I would return just to get this dish... the veggie dumplings were amazing also! Didn't love the cumin lamb noodles and the lamb dumplings. The cumin lamb is sweet and not spicy and cumin forward like you would expect in the traditional Szechuan dish ...but the noodles were good. I knew this place was pretty popular/talked about in the DMV area, so I went for dinner with a few friends. The service system is incredibly efficient, they just keep an open tab for you and all orders can be made from your phone at your table. The staff were kind and informative, and made sure we knew this information. They also have a vegetarian menu, so that is a plus for anyone with dietary restrictions. The food however was just average. The bulgogi with stir-fry was good but you definitely should order a side of rice with it. The braised brisket was not really how I imagined it, it was really soft or brisket-y, just tasted like soy and not much depth of flavor. They also gave a ton of rice with this dish, so overall the amount of rice (or the lack there of) that was served did not make sense. All side dishes you need to order separate, such as the turmeric radish or kimchi. The radish was not vinegary enough, so wasn't all that palate cleansing. This was kind of a surprise, but not really a surprise- traditionally, korean places give you sides as service/free because it is a given with a meal. However, considering that this is a korean American restaurant, I wasn't too surprised but they were a bit over priced tbh. Would I be back? The house fried rice with shrimp was tasty (if on the oily side), but the soy glazed brisket was AWFUL. How they can get away with even calling this brisket I have no idea. This initially was going to be a negative review but the staff at this location was fantastic. The two women working behind the register/servers were attentive and friendly. Our food and drinks came out promptly and it was delicious. My only issue was that my bulgolgi came with a scarce amount of beef. I was disappointed by the portion since it was $18 and let the staff know. I've worked in the restaurant industry so I know it wasn't their fault. Immediately, she apologized and quickly got me an extra side of bulgolgi. I hate being a guest that complains but they were extremely understanding and kind. Such a good find for gluten-free fried rice! Eating here is very covid-friendly, as you can sit outside and pull the menu up and order from your phone. You can pay when you order and then your food is brought out. If you need a to-go container, you can also just pop in and grab one for yourself. If I could eat their dumplings every day I would. For a while I have been craving Chinese/ Korean food and I was so excited that a fusion place opened up nearby- and I could have it delivered! I personally still haven't eaten out since the first covid shutdown so pickups/ deliveries have been how I've been satisfying my restaurant cravings. So far I've tried the Orangeish Chicken, the Kimchi, the vegetable rice, and the vegetable dumplings. Everything was great. The orangish chicken was a healthier, fresher take on traditional orange chicken- and I didn't feel heavy and weighed down afterwards. The kimchi- I liked it! I will admit some of the cabbage was so chewy I had to spit it out- but nothing too bad. The vegetable rice- I think the top is the area most packed with flavor! The bottom half with just the rice gets plainer but it's a good balance especially with kimchi on the side. The dumplings- my absolute FAVORITE thing here. They tasted fresh, homemade, and they had this chili oil drizzled on top. Amazing. The food was so good I scarfed it down and forgot to take pictures! I'm so glad we have this new addition in Bethesda. read more

It was decent for chinese/korean fast food. Even though they didn't deliver everything I ordered. For appetizers, I ordered: Pork & Kimchi Potsticker (2), Crispy Chicken Springrolls, Bulgogi Tots, For the main entrees, Spicy Bulgogi Stir Fry, Korean Garden Noodles, Side of Steamed Rice (2), and for Dessert: Banana Custard I tried out Chiko for the 1st time to commemorate the beginning of the Lunar New Year. I figured that both South Korea and China celebrate the holiday, so how could I go wrong? Well, as it turns out, unlike most fast food restaurants, this one completely ignored the holiday. They had a few specials, but they were the bargain type, not the nuance type. Make no mistake, by many other accounts it was unmistakably fast food: 1. The menu selection catered to trendy dishes over authenticity. Almost entirely Korean, with a few Chinese go-tos. This was most evident when I saw a couple of dishes smothered with furikake butter (for those that don't know, furikake is a popular table seasoning in Japan...i have a jar in my cupboard. I like it, but it's not Chinese or Korean, which is the point I'm making here). I'm also pretty certain frozen tater tots aren't authentic either, but that's pretty much the centerpiece of the bulgogi appetizer I had. 2. Many of the items were swimming in oil (like the potstickers) or sauce, like the stir fry. Yay calories! 3. The portion sizes were a good value, but they skimped on the ingredients. --the potstickers were like tiny dim sum --the bulgogi in both the stirfry and tots were tiny, sparse slivers of meat --the rice was in an incredibly small container (comparably a small fries at McDonalds). AND, as noted in the beginning, I only received one of the two I ordered. I don't understand how recently restaurants treat plain white rice as so costly and exotic that they hoard it from their customers to the point of scamming them. ...and with that final point, I'll end the review. The meal was filling. It was delivered reasonably promptly, though the Grubhub driver neither knocked on my door nor texted, so it was sitting on my doorstep for who-knows-how-long. It was an okay value (about $95 plus $30 in fees). It tasted good. I won't be going back though. minus 1 star for a chinese-ish/korean restaurant ignoring a chinese/korean holiday minus 1 star for the lack of rice and covert delivery But still, 3 stars for fast food is pretty good I think P.S. the alleged-banana custard tasted absolutely amazing! read more

I was excited to check out this place and their fusion menu with a friend. The customer service is great, and I enjoyed the location. They had the window open, and we were able to sit right up against the open air. In terms of the food, it wasn't bad by any means, but it is a stretch to call this restaurant an Asian restaurant. Despite boasting Chinese and Korean fusion, I struggled to find either Korean or Chinese flavor in the three dishes we ordered (green onion, sriracha, and soft-boiled egg does not equate Asian flavor!) I didn't particularly dislike my meal, but I don't plan to come back due to the high prices, fast casual quality, and lack of flavor. read more

I hate writing bad reviews, but this meal was one of the worst I've had in a long time. I normally would contact the restaurant but it was consistently bad. We order 2 apps & 2 entrees. The lobster Rangoon were the only redeeming item, but they were good enough to ever return. The wings were NOT Double fried, or crispy, actually the amount of skin was disgusting, and what it took to get to the meat took butchering skills. The bulgolgi was laughable, 3oz of meat is NOT an entree portion, the meat was more of a garnish. And finally the brisket was tiny cubes of overly salted meat. So I went to Chiko for the first time to try the dimsum brunch on Saturday with and it was so freaking good that I made my sister eat it with me again on Sunday morning. Portions were big and there wasn't a single item we regretted ordering. Unfortunately no pictures because everything was so good we simply forgot (I'll let that statement speak for itself). - Shrimp Jook Okay this was the unanimous winner and could totally just be a meal on it's own. Tons of shrimp and so flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The sister who doesn't even like rice porridge declared this to be the surprising best. - Duck Spring Rolls You'll get two in an order, and they're perfectly fried and absolutely stuffed. Pairs so well with the sweet sauce it comes with. - Lamb Dumplings Soaked in a Sichuan style broth, these had a lot of spice and were so good. The only con I could attribute was that the dumplings were so tender they would stick to each other and be a little hard to pry off of each other without tearing, but I would just attribute that to the nature of it being takeout food and it won't stop me from ordering them again. Maybe they could pack these differently somehow though? -Kimchi Pork Potstickers A seemingly pretty basic menu item, but these are such a huge comfort food for me and Chiko does them so well! Perfectly fried and paired with dipping sauce. - Brussels Sprouts I am extremely weak to Brussels sprouts. And the thick savory sauce that comes with these on the side is killer and makes me want to dip everything in it. - Kimchi Jeon Again a comfort food, but that doesn't make it a cont as it's so perfectly crispy and it reheats so well. - Fried Chicken (Dry Rub) Okay Korean Fried chicken has definitely been growing in popularity, but I loved Chiko's dry rub wings! So crispy, not greasy at all and I would rub the sauce that came with brussel sprouts all over it and it was amazing. Banana Custard - Not gonna lie, ambitious desserts like this (aka things that my ignorant brain isn't used to) usually scare me but this was good! Next time I'm going to try to get the almonds on the side because they got a little soggy, but the dessert was great. Nice and light, not too sweet, and a great finish to a great meal. The food that this restaurant is not your run of the mill Chinese/Korean food. This place will deliver on every single dish and make you want to come back again one day. They have a modern take on menus with using a QR code which is very COVID safe. Even after the vaccine being widely distributed, the staff continues on wear masks and keeps the entire restaurant very clean. The food was extremely delicious and exceeded our expectations. We got the House fried rice and the Crab Rangoons. Finally you can count on a place to have actual crab in their food and not just the taste of sweet cream cheese. The House Fried Rice was phenomenal and after we finished it we were very satisfied with our choice in restaurant. Cumin Lamb Stir Fry was great and unusual. Three dishes, all were home runs. this is one of the latest bougie additions to the bethesda main thoroughfare dining scene and opened during the pandemic. another one of those white guy opens asian fusion eatery types. I got the save the bay fried rice and stir fried cumin lamb for pick up. the situation in the restaurant was a bit awakward. when i went inside masked up (and fully vaccinated) the guy asked me to go and wait outside in the pouring rain until my order was ready. i complied. on the plus side, the order was ready in the next 5 min or so. despite montgomery county having indoor dining opened back in march this establishment is still pick up only at the time of my visit in may and doesn't even let you stand inside in the pouring rain as you wait for your pick up. both dishes were greasy, especially the lamb dish. the smoked fish fried rice tasted decent despite the greasiness, on a rainy day. in the lamb dish, the braised lamb was well cooked and tender but the noodles were greasy and passable. i wish it was paired with rice instead. read more

The spring rolls were meh (no standout flavors), but the wings and green beans were just absolutely dripping with gobs and gobs of hot oil. This didn't only hide what taste might have otherwise been there but it also made us a little sick from all the greasiness. We ordered in so maybe that had something to do with it? Thought of giving the meal two stars for the spring rolls, but that would be giving the meal too much credit. (especially when we compared the wings to what we get from MOMO).
