They are only concerned with getting financial donations! The food I got under new management was poor quality basically someone's trash. Expired food, moldy stale bread, un marked tin cans, and repackaged raw meat with no labels. one client showed me a rodent had chewed on the corner of a food box - she said be careful to me. Oh even more disgusting is The leadership was rude and condescending to many other clients, treated a handful like they were trash! It disgusted me to witness . The former director Paul truly cared! Now it's just a nasty place! Wow they don't run things orderly anymore. It was chaos in line. The new director clueless Mikey and the other leadership team were standing around - the director was talking down to while ordering a very elderly volunteer around! Yikes - you could see the stress and anger flowing from Mikey. I believe that old guy quit that night. Hostile Hostile Hostile - So much so I couldn't stay a second day in such a hostile place. One of the volunteers, an older crass woman, was making racist remarks as some of the clients of color were exiting. It was soo sickening it hurt deeply I just left. I didn't want to be anywhere around that place. I'm in need and I left hungry. I will never go back to that location. I hear the church is suing Paul personally for $50,000.00 plus and all for their own chaos - it's clear to me who is causing problem! It is soo sickening to hear of the church's unthinkable actions against Paul!!! It is well known he has volunteered there for at least 25yrs - that action against him alone shows they only care about money.All the rest I've commented on only reinforced that thought in my mind. It's.a lovely moderately sized store tucked into one of the strip mall buildings, near the State Store and the Indoor Pool school. Yes, there's an indoor pool in one of the stores. It's a swim school or something. But I digress... Everything was laid out very nicely, they have many things to buy, but not so much that you're overwhelmed. We learned that there are two kinds of stock: CONSIGNMENT items have a larger yellow tag. DONATED items have a small bright orange/red tag. They tend to keep the consigned items more towards the front of the store, also. So if you see an item and you think, wow, that's kinda high...check the tag. Chances are it's a consigned item. We browsed about and found some lovely things - FDC bought a gorgeous Italian Pottery vase and I got some very cool drinking glasses that just happen to match some shot glasses that I gave Lion a couple years ago. Score! On subsequent trips I have found an awesome set of mid-century bamboo plates for picnics (LOVE THESE!) and other fun stuff too. The staff are completely lovely people, the store is clean, well lit and well organized. Proceeds benefit survivors of domestic violence - they have a shelter for victims and also fund programs. Parking is super easy (pro tip - avoid the crowds, small parking lot behind the Barnes & Noble easy in/easy out!). Heck, yeah, I'll be back. It's a great little store supporting a very needed service in our area.

I just finished up my 12th weekend of doing volunteer doggie photography For Rags 2 Riches. One of…read moretheir supporters recruited me to help them out. So I have seen firsthand on numerous occasions how the team at Rags 2 Riches operates, and this is my assessment... They sincerely are 100% passionate about helping the animals. It's what drives them. Somewhere I saw a review where somebody complained about the cost of the adoption fee, which is currently $400 for younger dogs and puppies. Senior dogs I believe are less. Well, this is not a money making operation. I have the impression that if they made it to break even, then that was a good month. They've got employees. They've got rent. They've got costs associated with the care of the animals. When you adopt, the adoption fee helps to support their work. This is a small rescue. They want to get animals adopted or in foster care quickly so that there is room to bring in more dogs and cats that need saving. As part of their mission, they actually visit the youth detention center in Lima once per month to give the kids there some puppy time. (Last time they brought them 4 puppies to play with.) Rags 2 Riches does things like that. Each animal that comes into their care is considered precious. And they are protective of these animals. They want them to have good lives. So they take their adoption screening seriously. The Rags 2 Riches people work really hard at what they do. The hours are long. The rewards come when one of their "babies" gets adopted by good people. That's it. That's all they are working for. I saw there were some bad reviews here. As in any business, including a non-profit business such as this one, glitches can happen. Rags 2 Riches saved more than 300 animals in 2019. So if there are service glitches, the percentage is very small. If you are looking for a dog (or cat), you might find the special one you seek right here. It seems every week they've got new dogs. Some come from the south. Some are local saves. Some even come from other countries. Like right now, they've got a special young dog from India! Rags 2 Riches is located about a block from the 7-11 in Aston. With each of my visits they have had abundant parking. You can see their dogs by visiting their Rags 2 Riches Facebook page or Instagram. Often there are new dogs that do not yet have photos. Sometimes new dogs last only one day before they are adopted. (I've seen this.) If you are visiting them, be prepared to act. If you find "the one," don't go home to think about it. That animal can get adopted quickly by someone else. And if you don't find the one on your first visit, it's okay to keep coming back to see the new arrivals. Also, I know they are always looking for volunteers and people willing to foster. New arrivals sometimes are stressed. Those are the ones they want to get adopted or into a foster home quickly. So if adopting is too much of a commitment, then there certainly are foster care opportunities.

I can honestly say that all the animals we have fostered have been cared for and vetted properly. I only foster puppies, which are more prone to illness (parvo, worms, kennel cough). Out of the 50+ pups that we have fostered - they were all adopted out healthy! I still follow many of these dogs and their families. I stopped by a few days ago to check out their new store. It's significantly bigger than Nana's Attic, which means it feels far less cramped. Yay! Still very good prices, the "yellow tag" items are consignment and generally higher priced than the store's donated stock. It about killed my soul to see an awesome vintage salt & pepper mixed in with newer dishes in a consignment lot. Aaah! Staff are great, the store is clean and bright. I'll definitely be back. Note: angled parking in front of the building is NOT free, Pontiac is a public street, and those are pay at kiosk metered spots.

The address for the administrative offices is the same as the address for one of the preserves, but the preserve is obviously a separate entity from the offices, and is not called "Natural Lands," it's called "Hildacy Preserve." Natural Lands manages a growing number of preserves, currently all 20 are located around the Western / Northwestern 'burbs of Philly. So far, we have been to three of their preserves, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Each Natural Lands preserve has a different personality, and a different history. Terrains are different, as are features and facilities. For example, Stoneleigh is a former mansion in Villanova, with pristine, cultivated grounds, akin to similar historical estates. Meanwhile, Sharp's Woods Preserve in Berwyn, doesn't even have a parking lot, and is more of a neighborhood trail between developments, with no major facilities or features. Both preserves offer their own function in the community, each providing something different, that is useful in its own way. This is true of each and every one of their (currently) 20 properties. ALL of them are FREE! This is a WONDERFUL resource for our area! When you visit the Natural Lands website, they are very good at providing useful, articulate info. You can sort through the preserves to learn each one's personality to choose a destination. Clicking on a specific preserve will show you all the history and stats, and they have a highlighted area to tell you how long of a hike you can take at each one. There is also a link at each preserve page to show you a map of the preserve, with all the trails, so you can plan your trip. We are so happy to have discovered this organization (which has been under our noses for years now), and we look forward to getting to know each of their preserves!

Native warm- and cool-season grasses are particularly valuable as nesting areas and food sources for birds such as Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, Grasshopper Sparrow, and Eastern Bluebird--all of whose populations have been in decline nationally due to loss of habitat. Crum Creek, a tributary to the Delaware River, meanders through the preserve. The creek is the leading drinking water source for Delaware County residents and was designated a "Special Protection Stream" by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. With help from volunteers and Pennsylvania's TreeVitalize program, we have planted hundreds of trees along the edge of Crum Creek to improve water quality. Trees and other plants in this area filter the nutrients and sediments transported by surface and groundwater flowing into the creek. Native trees also provide shade and food that benefit fish and other aquatic species.
