We see Mackenzie Carsten here and she is just wonderful with my baby and other daughter. The front desk is always nice and the waiting area is kept clean. It's been 3 years and we still love Dr Terry and the staff at CHA! We have since had another baby and gone through multiple nasty bugs over the years, we've seen other dr's when she was full, and it's been a great experience. The only con we've ever come across is just that she's often scheduled very far out but that's because she's so amazing! The MAs are all awesome and one even babysits my girls on occasion. I've been taking my now-toddler here since she was one month old, and have overall had an excellent experience. She primarily sees Dr. Heisler, but I've also seen Dr. Rich, Dr. Terry, and Krisi (PA), and they've all been fantastic - patient, kind, unrushed, and considerate. I've typically been able to get a same-day appointment when needed (except for when my message doesn't seem to go through, see below) - a big benefit of a large clinic. The only thing I've struggled with here is the availability of help/advice when I don't have an appointment and their after-hours answering service. They've outsourced the nurse advice line, so when I call, it's someone who doesn't have access to my daughter's records. They also can't receive texts (which is an issue since often the questions are skin-related - you know, babies - and I can't send a pic) - and callbacks have been inconsistent. They take my number and say they'll call back within an hour, but sometimes it's been several hours and sometimes not at all. I've also had the answering service say that they will leave a message with the office to call when they open so that I can schedule a same-day appointment, and again, no call. (Not sure if that's an issue with the scheduling service or the office, but at any rate, it's an issue.) I've gotten quicker responses using the patient portal (which is pretty wonky) to email the doctor than calling the "24/7" advice line. I think they used to have on-site triage nurses who could take phone calls, so I'm hopeful that they might bring that back one day . . . but I think since the whole world is understaffed, that may be a ways away. So if your child has significant medical issues and you anticipate frequently needing off-hours support, I might hesitate before going here. But overall, I'm happy and confident with the care my daughter is receiving at this clinic! read more

Do not take your child here. They cant even get their medical charting correct. Then when you call to get it correct they refuse to change it. I wish I could leave 0 stars. Will never be back and will be spreading the word. I should have known when they had such availability. read more

As a new mom and a nurse I'm picky with pediatricians. I switched to this doctor's office after having a bad experience with the clinic my insurance assigned us to. I have been pleasantly surprised by this office and particularly Dr Hoelter. I have all my kids see her and she is always helpful and easy to get what we need from. She doesn't push any psychotropic meds which is important to me considering how quickly schools and doctors these days seem to push meds on kids that act like kids. Love that they offer but don't push vaccines. I prefer the Silverton office to the Salem one because they seem much busier in Salem and sometimes the wait to see the actual doctor after you've been called into the room is longer than I'd like. The case managers are very helpful and quick to get back to you. I've seen 3 different doctors here and liked them all. The MA's that take you back... eh... I'm rarely a fan of MA's skills and professionalism ANYWHERE. I have seen them fudge the vital signs (counting RR and HR) which isn't a major thing considering most kids are fairly healthy coming in for preventative care but a questionable practice that they could miss an important symptom and of course the MD trusts what's on the chart.I would ask them to use the pulse ox and if my kid had cardiac issues an electronic BP cuff every time. I know where my kids V/S linger so when they start coming out textbook I question the skills of the person taking them. Being a nurse makes me "that mom" and I'm okay with that! Another, negative is the bathroom in the lobby-- they take the urine samples from there which means with children there's splatter around and on the toilet. I'm confident the knob to the urine sample door is germ invested. Would love to see some lysol wipes, gloves and hand sanitizer in that bathroom. Again, that's the nurse brain at work. Would love to see them get handicap accessible doors and a scale. Lastly, their lunch break is ridiculously long!! They have you come back for no appointment things like a follow up shot or to drop papers off and they close for like 2 hours a day so you really have to call ahead and make sure they're open. Overall, this is a good clinic and I love the doctor we see. I love that they are open on saturdays and evenings. I love that we can always get an emergency appointment same day. The parking is ample and the locations are easy to find. The waiting room doesn't have a bunch of germy toys in it but always has the TV playing and a fish tank to distract the kids. The office staff is pleasant and the overall tone is welcoming. Dr. Hoelter raises this 3 star office to a 4, for me! read more

I've felt a lot of judgment and pressure over personal decisions when I've gone to this doctors office (like switching brands of formula, bottle v breast, if I wanted a speech evaluation, etc). I am used to doctors telling me the risks and benefits of any specific treatment and then doing their best to support me in what I decide is right for my family. Instead I get told what to do and get grilled if I inform the doctor that I don't think that is the right decision for us. On top of that there is difficulty with office management, like being told an appointment is at one time when it was really scheduled for another, having my children's names registered incorrectly, etc etc. It just always seems like a headache. It seems like the available providers change often. I had surgery to have my daughter and couldn't go up and down our stairs easily, and I would have to go up and down lots of stairs to leave the house. My husband took her to the doctor instead. . A lactation consultant asked him if I needed help breastfeeding. My husband knew I wasn't interested in that and told her so. We needed to use formula for multiple reasons. This isn't our first kid. The consultant then advised him to book an appointment on my behalf, against both our stated wishes, and cancel it if I didn't want to go. I don't know why it was so hard to just listen and respect what was said. As I said, my daughter was formula fed. She had good weight gain for awhile and then a flattening of the growth curve. We told the dr that we tried sensitive formula because she was spitting up a lot, but she spat that up more so we switched back and expected it to resolve the problem. Turns out my daughter has a reflux problem that was not noticed or diagnosed by this practice. Instead, they implied that I wasn't feeding her (!!) and scolded me for trying a sensitive formula after she spat up more than was expected. They gave me a formula with extra calories in it, but she was still spitting up very often. I think a lot of this could have been avoided if I had been listened to. The booklet that all new patients are provided with also states that they plan to harp on your child's weight. The AAP and NEDA disagrees with that strategy as it increases the rate of eating disorders in children, with no reduction in obesity. read more

This place is wonderful! The best medical care I have ever had for my children. My kids love their doctor and are excited to go, even when they are nervous they might get shots! The medical and office staff are both so kind and understanding, will listen to parents, are respectful -- everything you could expect. A++. read more

LOVE this place. Tons of doctors, and just for kids. This place is open late (until 8pm) which means when my kid falls on her face at 6pm I can actually reach someone. Nurses call back very quickly and will chat with you as long you need. This place is so much better than a private practice solo-doctor office. read more

If you want a pediatrician who will push you into ill-advised and unnecessary treatments. Who will ignore you as a parent. Who will call you a liar about your experiences with your child. Then this is the place for you! The clinic staff does a poor job of handling paperwork and scheduling. They have given me the wrong forms and even forms for a different person. They have told me the wrong date for appointments. They seem unable to handle the basics of insurance and billing. They have done an awful job of basically every aspect of working with them. Luckily their automated phone system will call you with enough warning to reschedule appointments if they mess up. The pediatrician herself has been extremely difficult to work with. Multiple times she has tried to force us into treatments which were not necessary, choosing to follow checklists rather than listen to the parents and think for herself. In another instance, she effectively called us liars regarding what our newborn was experiencing at home. Absolutely terrible. Do not go here. read more

I was planning on taking my newborn here, but after a phone call with a receptionist named Carrie I decided to change. My family has always gone here and had great experiences; however, I am a first time mother and decided to call to speak to an advice nurse regarding Covid and safety precautions for my newborn and was talked to inconsiderably by Carrie. She told me that the advice nurse could not give me advice because my son was not born yet and not a patient of there's. She also made me feel unknowledgeable with my questions that I wanted to ask. I am a first time mother who is very worried about brining a newborn into this world with a virus going around and I simply would have appreciated a little more respect and understanding. I am not going to bring my child to a place where I as a mother, don't feel comfortable asking questions, even if they are considered silly. I know Carrie does not reflect the Doctors care, but if I have to speak to her whenever I call or get to the office, it is not worth it. It saddens me because like I said, my family has gone here throughout the years, but it looks like it is time to change. read more

Moved to Salem a few months ago and started bringing our 5 kids here. We have probably been to this clinic on 5 different occasions for sick kids and/or well checks. We've seen a different provider every time and they are always rushed. The last time we were here, we checked in and paid our co-pay online prior to arriving. I got to the clinic with my kiddo and was asked to RE-check in. It was not a big deal, slightly irritating, but I just did it without making a fuss so we could get to our appointment and be on our way. We waited FOREVER in an exam room to have the doctor come in. Again, I was irritated since I had a wiggly 1 year old with me and a sick 7 yr old, but didn't make a fuss. Today, my child had a toddler well check appointment and I went through the whole check-in online process again. Arrived at the clinic, let the front desk gal know we were there - she checked my ID and verified whether or not I wanted my child to have a flu shot along with the other vaccines that were to be administered, and she verified our co-pay. She gave me the little buzzer thing and we sat down and waited to be called back. We ended up sitting there for 28 minutes and watched as probably a dozen patients who came in after us checked in and were called back. I went up to the desk to let them know we had been waiting nearly a half hour and that several patients were called back before us, although they had arrived later. She snapped back at me and told me that they were probably seeing other doctors. There were only 6 doctors there, so highly unlikely that they were ALL seeing different doctors. Then she asks for my child's name again and told me he wasn't even on the schedule!! I was livid. Not sure how I can essentially check in twice, verify my ID, vaccines to be received, insurance, etc and have my child not be on the schedule. Not to mention the fact that there were several staff members who obviously saw us sitting there as long as we had been and never took the initiative to say "hey, what's the patient's name again, let me see why it's taking so long"... This girl then offered to see if she could find a doctor to "squeeze us in" quick but at that point I just said forget it and we left. We won't be going back. They have a hard time returning phone calls and obviously my time and children are not important to them. I understand being a busy Medical office, but this place really needs to get it together. read more

Let me tell you about PA Brian Mills who has been my families saving grace. I come from a medical family and am very strong in my wants, needs and requirements from a childhood physician. I struggled the first few months finding the right fit for my son. Someone who would listen to my concerns and questions, fully explain what to expect and help us always plan ahead for the next steps of development. This is where Brian not only meets my requirements but always exceeds them. He greets us with a smile, will always get on my sons level to say hello and make sure he is comfortable, and takes his time to listen to us about his progress or any concerns. This clinic apparently exists solely to put children on meds. Concerns of the family about the safety, effectiveness, or even the need for them fall on deaf ears, and are responded to only with pharma sales-pitch propaganda. When researched, it would appear that the clinicians themselves don't even HAVE the latest information on the drugs they prescribe, or are simply willing to ignore the dangers. They use the 'age of consent' excuse to ignore family member's concerns, allowing teenagers who haven't even been through one year of high school to make decisions about taking mind-altering drugs. Drugs that can be very risky for some people and impact the course of their lives. At least two of the doctors here have taken payments from pharmaceutical companies, leaving one has to wonder just whose best interests they really have at heart. read more

I love how every time I take my kids into an appointment the doctor takes their time.. between both kids we have had to see multiple doctors there and everyone has always played with my kids. I have even had the doctor get on the floor to play with my kids. I have never waited more than 10 minutes either. I recommend them to all all my friends and family. read more

We love "Dr. Margie" (Margie Pascual, PA) and would follow her anywhere. We've always received great, in-depth care from her. The scheduling process is easy, much can be accomplished online. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is they frequently run late, quite late. I know this is a reflection of their large patient load, and a problem at most providers' offices these days. And I'd rather have my appointment start late and have a devoted, caring provider than be on time and feel rushed. I am glad our family found CHAOS and Dr. Margie. My kids look forward to appointments with her, which is such a blessing! read more

This place was awful. Doctors are nice, but the office staff is horrible. They could never keep credits and charges straight, constantly charged me a copay for visits which there wasn't one, then couldn't figure out how to credit me back or keep the credit on my account even for later use. They schedule followups on their own without speaking to me, then when I get the reminder call and can't make it, they get mad. I've never had such a hard time communicating with a doctor's front office staff, seriously no one knows what anyone else is doing. read more
