This is my favorite child consignment shop in the Seattle area. An excellent variety of good quality clothing and toys and other items. There's a large shoe wall as well. They do a great job on assortment - clothes are in good shape and from well known brands that hold up (hanna Anderson, Patagonia, etc). Books, toys and shoes are all in great shape too. What some critics seem to forget is that they need to be picky on what items they accept to maintain this assortment! The staff has always been nice and generally speedy at sorting through my drop-offs. There are a few times I've been surprised they didn't want something (sometimes too worn or a spot I hadn't seen), but again, I appreciate the flip side that everything I buy is in great shape! I also think the prices are reasonable and that it's easy to find good value here. My only minor gripe is that they only pay $0.25 per book and turn around and sell the books for $3-8+. I understand maybe managing the book inventory as a consignment item is not worth the trouble, but that gap is too big. Even $0.75-$1 would feel more fair. I have consigned here a couple of times now and haven't been very excited about how their business is run. You will get about $5 per item average for what you bring in if it's a really nice item because they are always running sales. Some items will sell for as little as $2 leaving you $0.70 for a boutique branded item and others will be $5. It is a 40/60 split which I knew before I went in but I feel like the items always go on sale or there is a discount given leaving quality items to receive less money than they should. I also have an issue with some of their team members. When I have come in to consign before I have been questioned on where I purchased my diaper bags that I tried to consign here and then by another staff member was told I would have to pick up my items before the date that they will be discounted and that she wouldn't pull them from the floor. You are dealing with busy moms, don't make us feel like we have to drop everything to make sure our stuff isn't worth anything. I have taken things to the JBF sale and have done much better than I have a Childish Things on both the selling and the buying. If you are consigning you need to be aware that you will have to wait and will not get a say on the price you put on your items. This is cause for me to not bring any big ticket items here. I have found good items from other sellers but will be taking my business elsewhere moving forward because I like to spend money where I sell my clothes and won't be consigning here again. read more

It is true that Childish Things is pricier on average than other consigment shops as a shopper. However, the payoff is less junk to look through (their merchandise is always seasonal and in very good shape). And I've also found some great deals....Hanna Andersson, Gap, etc., especially for the littler kids. If you use their punch cards you can get 15% off regularly priced merchandise. I really like consigning there because they allow you to pick up what doesn't sell, and because you can make a reasonable amount of dough. based on the way they price. Not for me! I will have to agree with PP that this store is overpriced, but my main complaint is no XL. I am not talking about Plus size, just XL in general that is sold in any maternity store. They had a crib (not the color I wanted) I just looked at in Babies R Us that was $329 (in the color I wanted)and they had it for $239. Is $100 enough of a savings to buy a crib that is used and you have no history on with obvious signs of use? Not to me but maybe for someone else. I am not sure if it came with the mattress that was inside it, if so that would make it a better deal. I checked out clothes. Carter's clothes is often on sale at Babies R Us, TJ Maxx, etc.. so the actual retail tag is not a good indicator of the value of the clothes. THey had a pack of new onesies (4 of them) (retail tag stated $24) for $15.95 but I just saw them on sale in a retail store (maybe not exact same print) but for $10. A cute onesie, with a stain was $7.95, it was cute but still! I didn't see a swing, but they did have a few bouncies and strollers but I didn't price them. read more

Childish Things is great! Our daughter is a week old, and we've found everything we need for her there. The staff is expertly trained in diapers and can give demos, and they even looked up a YouTube video for us to explain a particularly complicated stroller. The clothes have all been under ten bucks an item, which has been great too. I appreciate not having to sort through 20 year old junk that's probably been recalled at the thrift stores around town. Consignment is the way to go when buying gifts for children--they outgrow things so quickly! The staff here is lovely, lovely! They helped us find a great selection of gifts for a 'dinosaur' themed birthday party we are attending. We could have spent 30 minutes looking around aimlessly, but the 2 women working had a selection of options for us in less than 5. Exceptional service! I do like that they have both consigned and new items. Some things you just want to buy new and they understand that here. No pressure either way! My only tiff with Childish Things is this: it's a little expensive for a consignment place. Other reviewers have mentioned this and I agree with them. Like the other review, I find the clothing to be extremely overpriced. Used Target brands should be 50% or less than the original price. I find better brands for a few dollars at Savers. However, I LOVE the staff and atmosphere. It's bright and cheery , kids can play and they have an awesome variety of products for a little shop. I was also able to buy all of my cloth diapering needs (new) and the saleswoman was very helpful in telling me the differences between all of the brands. I ended up with GroBaby, Bummis and Snappis. *Also, their location has moved and the photo on Yelp is not current. read more

Great store! We've clothed our two boys here for the past 9 years and are so sad they are now growing out of things! Recent scores have still been under layers for skiing as well as soccer cleats! The ladies working here seem to be happy with one another and though they aren't pushy (attacking you upon entry as I've seen other reviewers want them to be), they do offer help as soon as you express interest! read more

I've tried, repeatedly, to shop at Childish Things and am consistently disappointed. At this point, they have lost my business. The new things they sell can be purchased elsewhere at a competitive price and their used things are consistently over-priced. Most recently, I tried to purchase something and they had lost the consignment information so couldn't sell it to me. It took them about 20 minutes of looking to finally tell me this and they were SO RUDE about it that I haven't been back. I also stopped trying to consign there long ago; not worth the effort. And I agree with another reviewer's post about the staff. They are young, disinterested, and generally rude. They don't seem to like or care about kids or customers. I put a lot of effort into consigning at Childish things. For instance, I visited the shop the day prior to consigning, and asked several questions about the consignment process. And then I spent several hours prepping our items to consign--ensuring all parts were accounted for, and washing all of the items. My husband came home from work early (to watch the children) specifically to facilitate my visit to the shop. I stuffed the van full of our items, and headed out to meet their listed hours for consigning. But when I arrived at Childish Things, I was welcomed by a sign proclaiming "No consignments accepted today". It would have been nice of somebody had mentioned that the day before. Also, I'd checked their website that day, and there was no mention of the change of policy, nor the sale that was the cause of the change. So I said, "I realize that you're not accepting consignments today, but could I get the paperwork so that I can prep it for when I bring them in later?" One salesperson told me yes, but then she was overridden and I was told I couldn't have the paperwork because a staffmember was required to be present when the paperwork was completed, so that everyone was clear on the rules. I explained that I'd read the rules previously, removed any items they didn't accept, accounted for all parts and pieces and thoroughly cleaned all items in accordance with their requirements. I still wasn't permitted to have a contract. So I suggested it would have been nice to have been notified the day previously that I couldn't consign the following day. But I was told that "regular consigners would have received an email." That does me no good. We're new to the area, and I am a first time consigner with Childish Things. I won't be back. read more

Yesterday I decided to stop into Childish Things before going to pick up my husband from work. The first thing I noticed was three employees working, talking amongst themselves, not one stopped to greet me. While I've read comments from the owner responding to other reviews about how much she prides customer service, maybe it's selective customer service. Keep in mind there was maybe one other customer in the store while I was there, and she wasn't being helped either. There is no excuse to not greet a customer when you have a store with three working employees and two customers in it. As I was looking around no one offered to ask if I needed any help finding anything. While I do agree with other comments on the prices, it's not the prices of the clothing that'll keep me away; it's the lack of customer service. read more

I have shopped and consigned here for years and love this store! Prices are medium, but they have a system of placing items on clearance at half price which gives you GREAT prices if you are a savvy shopper. They only take name brands, so you don't have to weed through junk to get to the good stuff. They are picky about what they take to consign, but that is to be expected given the quality of their merchandise. My only complaint- they only carry clothes up to size 12. My son was tall and outgrew that size well before he was actually 12 :). They also carry some new items, cloth diapers, winter wear, lunch boxes. I think their customer service is "just right"- I don't want someone following me around while I browse, and I will go ask for help if I need it. They've always been helpful to me if I do. I moved to CA 8 months ago, and realized what a gem this is after leaving....there's nothing of this caliber anywhere near me. I thought this store was great! After reading the negative comments on here I was a lil worried, as I am on a budget. However, I was able to find multiple items that were in *great* condition for very reasonable prices. NO, this is not the Salvation Army of baby stores. But you can find really nice, good quality brands for reasonable prices. If you want 3 sparkling new onesies for $10, go to Walmart. If you want beautiful little dresses that were originally $30-$50 marked down to $10-$15, this is your store! I was thrilled to find a used baby carrier that I've been craving for less than half of the cost that you can find it online!! They also have some really lovely new items (hand made cardigans, organic cotton onesies...) that are a bit pricey, but might be nice for a special occasion if you can afford them :) I will definitely be returning to this store!! read more

I love this place! Whenever my kids need something specific, I always stop here first to see if they have it. There is always high quality consigned goods and you can stock up on Melissa and Doug for friends birthday gifts. My oldest daughter is 9yo now and I am sad that she is outgrowing the sizes here because it's been our go-to. I was just able to find her a skort she loves and a new bathing suit that had never been worn but was still a consignment item. Brand new speedo for $12! When my 7yo saves up her allowance for something undecided, she always wants to check out the dress rack here first. I also have to say that the customer service is fantastic. This is the Hot Spot for all things cool and kid-friendly--lightly loved and used items reused and recycled. Take your kiddos' old toys and lightly worn clothes there to consign and use the balance in your account to bring home new toys and gear. If you're expecting and on a budget, check this place out before you register--you can find everything from cribs to baby carriers and lots of great baby clothes for a fraction of what you'll pay at the mega-stores and you might be slightly less overwhelmed on entry... The only downside is that some of the used clothes are not that much cheaper than you can find them new, but there are some great deals, and the gear and toys are often MUCH cheaper. So, the Boulder moms like high quality and will certainly buy the higher-end stuff. And what do they do with that stuff when their kids outgrow it? Mostly they pass it on to friends, donate it, CL it, or try to sell it at a consignment store. This one seems to have a pretty good selection of stuff, but I don't think the prices are low enough considering the original retail price of the items. I would say that you'll pay about as much as you would at Target or Children's Place but get better quality clothes. Up to you if you prefer used higher quality or brand-new lower quality clothes. For the big ticket items, you can definitely get a better deal on Craigslist - but you'll have to spend all that time combing through the postings and photos, etc. So perhaps it's worthwhile from that standpoint. I'm not excited about the deal offered to consignors - not a very good % split and I sure don't like the idea that if my items don't sell, I have to comb through the racks to get the items back. That said, if you are willing to buy used clothes in order to get a bit higher quality, it's worth checking out. read more

Walked into Childish Things on a detour to Casa Alvarez (next door) and was surprised by the amount of amazing clothes that they sold. They had a large selection of children's/young adult clothing - including winter coats and nice dress shirts; the amount of overalls were overwhelmingly amazing. Though the prices are a little high, they're almost worth it because the condition of the clothing looked almost brand new. The customer service is what I am here to yelp about. It was amazing and for this reason, I will hopefully encourage others to give this place your money. I'm not sure if it is a local shop or a chain, but it definitely seemed to have a local "mom-and-pop" feel to it which is also a plus. read more

I love Childish Things. I took off one star for the prices, but for most of the brands they sell, the prices are actually great -- compare them, for instance, to buying Hanna Andersson stuff used on eBay. I've found HA stuff at Childish Things that is practically brand new and in the $8-15 range. No, it's not practically free and you do have to choose carefully or you'll spend a mint. But I haven't found a better source for high-end kids' clothes and shoes in great condition. Now that my kids are older (elementary school) the clothing selection is pretty limited, but I still stop in periodically. They often have ballet slippers, tap shoes, and soccer cleats too. I haven't consigned there, so have no experience with that. No problems with the customer service. Maybe it isn't extremely attentive, but I actually like that--I hate to be greeted the second I walk in the door and would rather take my time and just wander around. I have been shopping at Childish Things since I was pregnant 13 years ago. I enjoy shopping here because it is not like other consignment stores, that often have a funky smell. Childish Things only excepts clean clothing that is in good condition which is one aspect that makes shopping here worthwhile. I can count on finding clothing in good shape that doesn't have stains. The prices are good for second hand and the frequent shopper card brings items down in price even further. The lighting is great, items are well organized and they even have a great supply of new toys and puzzles that make nice birthday presents. The staff have always been genuinely friendly and helpful. They are happy to put your name on their wish list for items and always call when they get something in you are looking for. In addition, when they realized how much my son loved sharks they would point things out for me that he might like. While standing at the register the other day, I was looking around and realized that it feels like a nice boutique but doesn't come with the sticker shock when you hear your total. read more

Pay brand new prices for used clothing! The woman who runs this store clearly needs to retire. I think she'd like to run a high end boutique and has forgotten she sells used children's clothing. Yesterday I was there and witnessed her turn clothes down from a woman she had told she would buy if she took them home and washed them. This lady was furious, as was another mother standing next to her, and is nearly every woman I mention this store to. I can't believe they are still in business. Especially when Once Upon A Child is only 15 min away in Longmont. Nearly everything Childish Things won't take, they will, and they give you more money and have a much better selection of clothes, toys, and everything you can think of for babies and kids. The owner's expression tells you immediately how unhappy she is. I think it is that they have forgotten to acknowledge how much work it takes to bring this stuff to them only to be turned away. I have almost stopped going there but they are so close it's seems like I should try. But then I see the ridiculously high prices for used clothing and laugh. $69 for a used snow bib?? I could do better at Costco or a sale at Naartjie! Can someone else in Boulder open a reasonable kids consignment store? This place is absurd. read more

I am newly pregnant and today I was excited to go into Childish Things for the first time and see what they had. I was looking forward to going in there and hopefully becoming a regular customer. They have the type of door that a bell chimes when you open it, so I figured the employee at the front would greet me. She didn't even look up. I was in there for over 15 minutes, walking around and looking at stuff and was NEVER once greeted. I walked directly past the employee at the front register at least twice and she didn't even acknowledge me. I just don't see any reason or excuse to not greet a customer. Oh, and I was the only customer in there at the time! There was also a younger lady at the back consignment table that also did not greet me. It makes me sad that a small, independent store would not feel like it's important to say hi to their customers. read more

I live in San Diego, but have family in Denver so we visit often. Since my kids do not have winter clothes, I always rely on Childish Things to find weather appropriate items for my 5 yr old and 2 yr old. My kids always seem to find fun toys or craft items as well. The store is always clean and everyone who works there is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. read more

If you're buying, you'll get better items for cheaper at Once Upon a Child. If you're selling, you'll make twice as much money at JBF or Back on the Rack. Stores outside of pricey Boulder have lower rent and better storage, so they'll take out of season things and can donate for you instead of you lugging it all back home. For some reason, I keep going back to Childish Things to make a purchase or consign thinking that I will have a different, more positive experience than the time before. While the people at the cash register are always pleasant and helpful, those at the consignment desk are defensive and rude, and the items for sale are always over priced. Also, the consignment schedule is complicated and convoluted. Given that they are keeping 60% of the sale price, I would think that an effort would be made to make things easier on the merchandise supplier. Many times before I have promised that it would be my last visit but, today, I mean it. I think the difference this time is that my children were involved. We are trying to teach our boys to thoughtful consumers and generous givers. Our first stop was to Childish things to consign some of their things to sell and then on to Hospice Thrift Store to gift some of their items. I must say, that the boys spent a lot of time thinking about what they would be selling and gifting since, as all children can be, they had become attached to their things. At Childish Things, we waited for over 45 minutes for the overly picky staff at the consignment desk to go through our things, rejecting a large percentage. Then, when presented with what they would consign, they did not have estimated amounts of how much our 40% would be. We waited for another 10 minutes to find our my youngest son's portion on one of the items. Frustrated and disappointed with the entire experience, we opted to take all of our items with us and donated even more to Hospice, which felt good. However, with the discussion initiated by my boys on the way home, it was clear that they were left feeling rejected by Childish Things like the items they would not consign. Now, I understand fully that the store cannot, nor should they, consign everything that is presented to them, but perhaps a friendlier approach would be nice and ensure return customers. This is by far THE BEST consignment shop in the denver/boulder area! ALWAYS quality goods and higher end labels. And, you need not sift through loads of cheap rubbish to find it. Its all clean. Pressed. I will agree with all other reviewers that this place is overpriced. BUT- all of the area children's consignment stores seem to be. At least this shop has weekly sales(each week, 2 colours of tags are chosen to be 50% off!) and, I have been to a sale they had where everything was only $1! I think that taking all these things into consideration, it is the best one I've found in the Boulder/Denver area. (Ive been to a lot. Nearly all of them, actually) They have higher end labels and everything is in good condition. I love this shop. It is clean. Well organised. And NOT overcrowded. I think the prices are fair for the quality. Especially with the sales. I ALWAYS find bargain's and never feel I've overpaid. My favourite in ALL the Boulder/Denver area! read more

We live in Phoenix and spend our summers in Colorado, and I always make a point of stopping at Childish Things in Boulder to do some back-to-school shopping. The quality beats the consignment and resale shops we have down here -- it's worth paying a little more for better quality, clean, name-brand clothing that will last longer than a few wears. After reading reviews that really weren't that Great ! I thought I would go see for myself, Big Mistake!!!! I was there for 30 min looking at extremely overpriced clothes and toys. Never once did someone greet me or ask if I needed help! It was not busy! When I did decide to buy something, I went to the register to pay there was two people before me waiting as well ! After 15 min the people in front of me went to ask for someone to ck them out! Not only is it not worth your time or money and the gas from driving from Erie !!! I like others found this shop to be extremely overpriced. They did have some good brands but not a huge selection of maternity clothes (literally only a few small racks in the entire store) in very limited sizes, which is what I went looking for. That being said, I was able to get a diane von furstenberg wrap shirt for about a third of what it would cost new and a dress by ann taylor loft that was about half the price it would be in the store. Both were in like new condition so I justified it, but I really think used clothing should be cheaper than this. Though maybe I am just cheap. I also noticed a lot of their children's clothing seemed to be overpriced - a plain white short-sleeved onesie I picked off a rack for example was $8. I don't care what brand it is, a onesie, used, should not cost that much. They did seem to have a huge selection of children's clothing, cloth diapering supplies, and toys/equipment (strollers, swings, etc.) but when I took notes on prices and went home to compare to "brand new" prices later, I found most items were only marked down around $20 off the new price. Not my favorite consignment store in the metro area, but does have some nice brands if you are willing to pay. As others have mentioned, shop is very clean and well-organized also. read more
