If it wasn't for him, I could've died. After testing was done, they figured out what was wrong and they're incapable of intubating me. And, Flight for Life needed to transport me that same day, hospital is incapable of dealing with urgency of my care. My last two ED visits were so annoying! I've been admitted, multiple times and duration of my stay, I've always been released, prior than anticipated. One nurse was unable to get an IV into my vein correctly. It was bleeding out onto the floor, then tried to leave mee, while I'm bleeding all over the floor. My husband said, you need to fix the IV, my wife is bleeding all over the floor! You can't just leave her like that!! At my last hospitalization, I was assaulted by one of the RNs! She had the audacity, to tell me, I'm not entitled to break through pain meds! I told her, look lady, I've been on these meds for decades! I have fairly extensive knowledge of my meds, my illnesses and I know, what I'm talking about! The scary part, she didn't have basic knowledge meds. Plus, dealing with her, made myself exhausted! She fought with me, instead of checking and speaking with my physician and/or physician on-duty! Plus, it was recommended, I was in receipt of antibiotics, through IV, due to secondary infection. The physician ordered it, as soon, as it was decided, I would be discharged early, to go home. I was getting ready to leave, here comes that RN, insistently, made attempts to give it to me, it was the same antibiotics, same dosage, twice! I warned her that I've already, received such antibiotics and she didn't want to listen to me, I adamantly refused! Now, if, I was not in full state of mind, this nurse would've over drugged me! I have an immunosuppressed system, my liver was already failing, my GFR# continues upwards & at that time, we're unaware, my liver is diseased. We were diagnosed with cirrhosis, I returned to my specialist and she corrected me, stating it was diseased, not failed. I've got already complicated, rare kidney disease, stage III, diagnosed in 1999. I continue to go to this hospital because it's about 3 mi away from our home and by the time I need to get medical attention, this is the closest medical facility from our home. Everything else it's about 10 mi or more away from our home. The rooms are single occupancy and food is very good for hospital food. However, I suffered a stroke, fell down a flight of stairs, broke a few ribs and suffered a seizure before the EMTs got mee into the ambulance and they suggested we go to Good Sam's instead. So, they took mee to Good Sam's for hospitalization, in the ICU, because they're capable of treating me, instead of returning back to Avista.

On September 23rd, 2025, I went to the BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department for severe…read moreheadaches, dizziness, fatigue, and frequent episodes of double vision. One episode lasted long enough that I had to pull over while driving. The ER performed bloodwork and an MRI, both of which were normal, and sent me home with a generic "how to treat headaches" handout. The handout even specifically stated to seek medical attention if the headaches were accompanied by dizziness or vision changes, which were my main presenting complaints that visit. I followed up with my primary care doctor who referred me to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist. The neurologist was booked until November. I saw the ophthalmologist on October 6th, 2025 and he found significant swelling in both optic nerves and strongly suspected Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). He told me to go to the ER if my symptoms worsened prior to my neurology appointment. He explained that IIH can lead to permanent vision loss and must be officially diagnosed and treated with a spinal tap. Just two days later, on October 8th, I returned to the BCH Foothills Hospital after four episodes of complete vision loss, along with the worst headache of my life, severe dizziness, and back and neck pain. I was seen by Dr. Shannon Sovndal and gave him a detailed medical history, including my ophthalmologist's findings and his recommendation for a spinal tap. Dr. Sovndal was dismissive, repeatedly interrupted me, and insisted on repeating imaging even though I had just had an MRI at the same facility two weeks earlier. After several hours and additional imaging, he told me everything was "normal" and that there was "nothing wrong." When I explained that my symptoms had worsened and asked again about a spinal tap, he said it was "out of the ER's scope" and that I should wait for my neurology appointment, despite it being a month away. He stated, "if your symptoms get worse, you can come back to the ER. But I don't mean if your symptoms are just bothering you more. I mean if your symptoms are actually progressing." This was extremely frustrating since this was after I had gone completely blind multiple times that day.. if that's not my symptoms progressing, what is? I was sent home again with the same generic headache handout. Feeling unsafe with waiting a month for my neurologist to treat me, I immediately went to UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, where my experience was completely different. Four nurses rushed me back immediately after hearing my symptoms and the ER doctor, Dr. Jessica Mitchell, virtually consulted a neurologist right away. Dr. Mitchell performed a spinal tap and confirmed my intracranial pressure was concerningly high. After removing fluid, I felt instant relief. Dr. Mitchell confirmed the IIH diagnosis and explained that untreated IIH can lead to permanent health issues. Dr. Mitchell asked if I knew why BCH hadn't performed a spinal tap. I told her I had no idea, especially since I had specifically requested one. She appeared visibly surprised and concerned by that answer. Upon discharge from UCHealth, the staff provided me with clear discharge instructions and follow-up recommendations. They told me exactly what symptoms to look out for so I know exactly when to come back to the ER. Dr. Mitchell gave me the information for the neurologist that she consulted with and recommended that I reach out ASAP to schedule an appointment since they know my case and will likely be able to get me seen sooner. I'm deeply disappointed in BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department, especially Dr. Shannon Sovndal, for dismissing a serious and time-sensitive neurological condition.. twice. I'm incredibly grateful to UCHealth, Dr. Mitchell, and her team for listening, acting quickly, and preventing what could have been a permanent outcome. I would not recommend BCH Foothills Hospital to anyone seeking thorough or compassionate emergency care. Go to UCHealth Broomfield instead!

When I finally realized that I needed to go to urgent care with her, a quick Google search landed me at AFC urgent care Boulder. The women up front were very kind and helpful, and my daughter was seen within 20 minutes of arrival. The doctor was professional, kind, mild mannered, and easy to talk to. We opted to give her a variety of different test to ensure she didn't have anything serious, and it turned out just fine. We have pretty mainstream insurance and I paid $60 upfront and $60 later on. This seemed reasonable due to the nature of the visit. It turns out she didn't need any medicine, but we had lots of peace of mind going to visit our family, knowing that we were gonna be a-ok.

A couple days before, it felt like it relapsed and suddenly I was achy, feverish, with snot just continuously dripping and the worst cough that just wouldn't quit. I was terrified! I was due to play my cello fifteen feet up in the air in the coming days as part of my one-woman show that had a run time on one hour. My family encouraged me to go into urgent care. I simply picked this one because it allowed my to make an appointment instantly with little wait time. When I arrived, I had no wait time and was kindly ushered into a room. The nurse entered and took my vitals in less than five minutes of entering the room and was super kind. Soon after Aisling Ryan - Abbott stepped in and very quickly assessed the situation. She listened and was sympathetic to my situation and immediately gave me a plan of action after having me tested for COVID, RSV, and Influenza. My results showed I had Influenza A. Not just a cold. The relief of knowing what was going on, along with an action plan was a huge weight off my shoulders. Soon after starting treatment I found myself feeling immensely better and feeling confident about my airbourne performance. Every moment of my visit from desk to doc was perfect.
