We moved to Los Alamos from Albuquerque and this is one of the limited options for Pediatricians. Because they have a variety of Drs at this office we decided this would work best for us and our two boys. For the most part the doctors are fine. People in the area have their favorites to see. We have seen 4 different doctors while going there.
On our last visit we saw Dr. Slaughter for a baby well visit. My younger boy had been sick the week before so we were forgoing shots during the visit. Dr. Slaughter mentioned that other children had also been sick, even some having to be on oxygen. We finished the visit and scheduled to come back another day for shots. A week later we received a bill in the mail charging for an additional office visit. So I called and they read the Dr notes to me which went into detail about how we had discussed nebulizers and other such illness related problems. We never discussed any of these things and eventually the office manager removed the fee because the dr was not in the office to confer with. During our "discussion" I mentioned that this was a fraudulent charge and she proceeded to say that their office does a lot of good in the community. In my eyes this was her trying to justify overcharging us.
This may not be the Dr's fault, she might have been thinking of someone else's child when she wrote up my child's notes, or it might be the coders fault for incorrectly coding the visit (which is what our insurance suggested). But everyone at the office was extremely rude. Especially the front desk girls and the office manager.
We transferred to Dr Tom Child and have loved him and his staff. But he will be closing his office this coming September.
We recently had another encounter with the office when I accidentally called them instead of Dr Tom's. I called to talk to a nurse, they had none available so they immediately scheduled me for an appointment, which wasn't what I was looking for, but agreed. When I realized my mistake I called back and they said I would be charged a no-show fee because even though our records had been removed, my child was still listed as "active". Since I have no way of changing the status in their system, how could this be my fault? To which they said it was my fault I called the wrong office. In my defense they do not even say "Children's Clinic" when they pick up the phone, they say "hello?".
This has to be the most unprofessional office I have ever visited. The staff is rude and don't seem to care about the well being of your children, they are PROFIT DRIVEN.
This is nothing to do with the doctors from which we usually haven't had any issues other then the one instance.
I'm not sure how the White Rock staff compares, hopefully they have some beside manners. read more
