After visiting numerous daycare providers, and considering home-based providers, it became clear that Katie's Kids would be our choice. Not for one second have we regretted this decision. First off, the staff. We love the teachers. They are kind, dedicated, and share a commitment to providing a loving atmosphere focused on fun, learning, and positive development. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of projects that our son completed and brought home. I think our only complaint is that we don't have enough room to display his projects...! Secondly, the location. It's centrally located in downtown Royal Oak and with meters not starting until 11am and the parking garage across the street providing two free hours of parking until five, paying for parking is a rarity (unless of course the weather is bad then I'll spot a dime to park in one of the spots located right in front of the building). Every so often they will host a parents night out where they will watch the children/students from 19:00 - 22:00/23:00ish... This is a great benefit! Being in downtown RO we can eat dinner, see a movie, or just relax downtown knowing our son is hanging out with his friends! Finally, the cost. It's no secret that daycare is expensive but of all the places we visited, Katie's Kids was the most reasonably priced. They did recently raise their prices but even with this bump it's still one of the best deals in town. Considering diapers are INCLUDED until the child is about 18 months old, it's unbeatable. Plus, they take credit cards, so we can slowly earn airline miles to use on a future vacation...! Great staff. A true dedication to a caring, safe, and fun learning environment. Excellent location. Incredibly reasonably priced. It's unbeatable.

After moving my children to another daycare, it has truly showed that the experience here was unacceptable. Speaking from my own personal experience, my child was removed from the daycare more than once. It was said that my child needed therapy. My child has been in a new daycare, where they prioritize development and I have had no issues. No outbreaks, no acting out, nothing. My child is applauded for his behavior as well as his performance. I say that to say, this daycare is simply just that, a place to leave your kids for the day while they watch Coco melon and Gracie corner from sunup to sundown. No stimulation is offered at this location. No structure is offered here. This business is falsely advertising the services they offer, and I will continue to voice this until a change is made. Children deserve more. This is no place for the developing mind. My children were often picked up from school crying, everyday. The solution given to me was the fact that it is just my kids. Discriminates: My daughter was kicked out of the program because she experienced two prior febrile seizures, both related to viral infections. a. Federal laws that prohibit schools from discriminating from children with disabilities, even though our child does not have a disability. b. Page 3 of their Parent Handbook 2022-2023, under the "Allergies / Medication Packet" section speaks about seizures and it goes on to advise that "together we will create an action plan"), c. My husband and I met with Ms. Nancy for the initial interview and walkthrough. She did not ask any questions regarding medical history. When we asked, she said paperwork would be sent before school started for us to complete. Also, I met with Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Christina before school started and told them our entire experience and we discussed a care plan, where Ms. Suzanne appeared overwilling to administer a care plan, but Ms. Christina seemed not fully on board. In the end, Ms. Nancy tried to infer that we hid our daughter's medical history from her, as if we would put our daughter's life at risk, to attend this transactional school. 2. Unorganized & Unprepared: Before school started, I called for the paperwork, they were unorganized and said that the packages would be mailed. They were never mailed. I met with Ms. Suzanne and my daughter's teacher Ms. Christina. Ms. Suzanne was assuring that they could assist in the situation of a febrile seizure lasting longer than the standard time. Ms. Suzanne said they had another child in the school with similar medication on file. Ms. Christina said she had never responded to one before but agreed, which seemed only due to Ms. Suzanne's assurance. Because of Ms. Christina's reaction I later followed up with her and also other teachers and Teacher Assistants in the school who would be with our daughter before and after school. None were experienced and seemed uncomfortable with the conversation. 3. Unwilling: After submitted information and help video Ms. Christina and Ms. Nancy determined that they were unwilling to administer care. Febrile Seizures can happen with a high fever during an illness, affecting 2-5% of children in the U.S. between 6 months and 5 years of age. 4. Transactional: I tried to negotiate with Ms. Nancy and also Ms. Christina regarding the care plan, as a new parent I wasn't sure if my requests were extreme or not. Ms. Christina decided that she would not provide the care plan.. Ms. Nancy was unwilling to compromise in any way and only said no to any and all requests that I asked without even hearing them out. I also asked if my daughter could return after a year of being cleared and having no experiences with illnesses and she also said no. Furthermore, once they said that we could no longer participate in the program, it was like we became public enemy #1, even though my husband and I remained calm, patient and professional throughout the entire experience. The staff was very rude and short. 5. Mischievous: Ms. Nancy provided me to a Tuition Rate sheet that quoted us our weekly rate, after disputing the prepaid charges which they refused to return I realized that: a. They were charging us a different weekly rate than Ms. Nancy told us. b. In going through the refund process, they also tried to charge us for more days than we attended. They tried to charge us for more days than we attending. Saying that attendance showed that my daughter had attended before their actual school start date, that's written on their own website. c. We purchased close to $300 in school supplies, when we were removed after 6 days of school, they return only a portion of our supplies and most of the items were generic when we purchased branded products. d. Getting a refund required several hours of our time and money. e. They declined my request for my refund more than once 6. Smells of Urine: When you walk into the facility on a regular basis, it smells of urine. And on more than one occasion there was no hand soap in the bathrooms for the children.

The staff made us feel right at home, and we weren't nervous leaving him here at all. This is only his second week, but so far, we love it. The woman who takes him in the morning is so good with him, and she is genuinely excited to see our baby in the morning. I always feel really good after leaving him there. Then in the afternoon, when I come to pick him up, the ladies give me good feedback, they keep good track of when he slept, ate and went to the bathroom. He's always clean and in the same outfit I packed, so I think they're way better at burping him then me! People already know me by name. The other parents seem very friendly and happy with the daycare as well. I'm looking forward to getting to know the parents and to watch our kid's relationships develop as they grow up together!

It is a pay for program and only open to Oakland County residents, but well worth it. They have a 3 and 4 year-old program that are half days. There is no before or after care available but I am a stay at home mom so that was not a problem for me. The teacher, Mrs. Walker, is OUTSTANDING!! Yes you can say I like the teacher. She has so much patience and understanding with these little guys and us parents. My kids like her so much and that is half the battle with kids. Often we saw children whom she had taught before return to say hello and thank you. You just don't see that these days. In the 2 years we have been with the program my kids have blossomed and learned so much. I am confident that my 5 year-old is now ready for kindergarten. She has been reading and writing since last year and learned many new math and science skills this year. My 3 year-olds speech has improved so much I no longer am considering speech therapy for him. He is a typical boy and was not interested in reading and writing at his age. Not any more! He learned what to do and how to do it without even knowing that was what he was doing. Now he writes on everything (including the walls) and is trying hard to read what his big sister reads. If your looking for a program for you 3 or 4 year-old this is the place for them.
