My son's grips broke and we needed replacement to keep biking. My friend, Miles, told me to try here. We walked in and were greeted and asked what we needed. We were directed back to the service area who helped my son pick out some grips (bright green if course) and had them quickly installed. All I have to say is go to this bike shop if you plan to rent bikes in Moab. They take great care of their bikes and make sure you do, too. I really enjoyed riding my bike (I got a Giant Trance Size S; I am 5ft 2 in and about 130lbs). I thought the price was reasonable for a day long basic mountain bike rental. Definitely buy the insurance, you never know what can happen. They also had incredible suggestions for where to ride, which was great because we had people of all experience levels in our group. They directed us to Dead Horse Point State Park, where every single one of us had a blast and was challenged in ways that were not too scary or technical. The views were unbeatable. I also loved the merchandise in their shop. The Chile Pepper logo is great, and we couldn't resist getting a shot glass and sticker to commemorate an epic day. Grateful for them! read more

We also appreciated the flexibility -- we had reserved the bikes for a Tuesday, but the weather called for snow, so we moved the reservation to Thursday, which technically the shop could have charged us for, but didn't. Rented a bike, took it out into park to ride. While in park, we get a message we have to return by 5:00 PM. Couldn't get back until 6:30 and they were closed. Returned it 7:30 AM next morning as they opened up. Didn't cost them any lost rental time or lost revenue, but they still charged us a $50 late fee. There was no reason for that. read more

My boyfriend and I rented mountain bikes from Chile Pepper last week during our visit to Moab. It was my first time mountain biking, but the employees were awesome and encouraging, and got us totally stoked on the sport. They gave trail recommendations, and gave us the full run down of the bikes we rented before we took them out for the day. The shop is super fun too, and in addition to all of their bike gear, they sell great branded items--I purchased a hat and some fun stickers. Just before my road trip from San Diego to Steamboat Springs, CO I had a minor crash and bent the rear derailleur hanger. As we were leaving early doors I had no option but to try to find somewhere on the road to fix it. After some Googling while in Moab we found Chile Pepper. First review I've ever left on Yelp! So my boys and I went in to rent a bike for a short afternoon ride, noon to 4:30. The brilliant female I spoke with let me know that pick up time was 4PM and return time was 1PM so I assumed she didn't have a bike available. Oh, but they did have a bike but she refused to rent me one from noon to 4:30. I offered to pay full rental rate- she still refused- not a problem solver at all. This bike shop was the pickup spot for the Coyote Mt bike shuttle service we used. It's located at the end of town conveniently located next to a subway and grocery store in case of last minute items needed. I specifically mention that because it's relevant when heading out to trail heads when meeting here. The staff at this bike shop were friendly and the atmosphere inside is festive if Moab. Amazing bike shop, super-fast repairs, and reasonable parts and labor rates! Like everyone who has a bicycle malfunction on vacation, we needed my son's mountain bike fixed asap. At home, it would have been several days before a shop would even look at the bike and then 5 days or more for them to order parts. At Chile Pepper, they had two bike mechanics on duty on a Sunday afternoon and Joel (I think that was his name) actually listened to us describing the problem and checked the stock of shifters, derailleurs, and brake kits in case we ended up needing new parts. They said they would try to fix the shifter but as I expected, it was beyond repair so they called me the following morning to discuss options. We ended up with a slight quality upgrade because they had the parts in stock and they were priced as good as any online shop. Every person at the shop was incredibly helpful. I'm a new rider who just bought a used bike from a friend. I brought my bike in to get a tune up and to get some education around how to maintain it, and get outfitted with the basics for riding and maintenance. Robin was the main service tech that worked with me and he couldn't have been more informative and helpful. He took as much time as I wanted to explain all the various aspects of how the bike is constructed, how to maintain it, and how to stay safe riding. We rented 2 mountain bikes from Chile Pepper. We did not make previous reservations, and got the last of the mid tier 29er available and a carbon 29er. Bikes were like new. Got the insurance for the carbon one as we were not familiar with Dead Horse state park trails and carbon bikes are more fragile in the case of a spill. At $10 for the whole day the insurance appeared reasonable. NOTE: we went in low season, so Reservations are recommended!! We got the bikes with flat pedals but they also provide the clipless pedals if you wish. Chilebikes also provided the trunk rack for $5, which they safely mounted with no resulting damage to the rental car. Also we got the MTB trail bikes for the area at Chile. Bikes were top notch and were in top maintenance state, not skipping a shift and no issues at all. Return was no fuss, quick and professional. Surely my go to rental place next time we go to Moab. read more

I know all the Moab bike shops well and Chili Pepper is my favorite for retail, shop work, and rentals for occasional guests. During the current pandemic Chili Pepper, like all smart businesses around the world, requires masks. Please ignore the reviews by hicks with their baseless political views on wearing masks. First things first: I'm not a biker. I tell you this, so you can understand my background and my point of view. I think in this case it's helpful for two reasons. First, I'm no pro when it comes to the gear or how stuff should perform. But second, I'm no pro... so the fact that these guys could outfit me for two days of riding on some of the world's premier bike trails, is also important to understand. With that said, here go the details. I was in Moab for several days, with a group of rowdy teenagers and another adult to help run these kids around. We decided that as part of the adventure, we'd rent some bikes and head out on the trails. A couple of them were really into biking already, a couple had been once or twice, and we had a handful of newbs in the group as well. We rolled into Chile Pepper at pickup time and they immediately got to work pulling bikes for us. We had sent in heights and weights beforehand, so it was a cinch for them to grab everything and bring it out front. They sent an employee out there who made final seat adjustments for us, ensuring that everything fit just right. After fitting, securing helmets, and helping us attach the bike racks (also available for rental) we had a few minutes of instruction. Meanwhile, I was exploring the shop. They've got a lot of gear in here--from clothes, to helmets, socks, and all kinds of components that I'm sure are very nice, if I knew a darn thing about bike components. They have a big shop area for bike repairs, and lots of staff to help out, at least during my visit in late June. I was very appreciative of their advice on where to go. I had a few ideas, but they have a whole bunch of maps available for a modest fee, and the nice employee behind the counter asked lots of questions about skill level and capabilities before suggesting a riding area that turned out to be perfect for our motley band of boys. Everything went smoothly. I was super impressed with the bikes. They list out the replacement price for you, so you know how much they're worth and they seemed nearly brand new; I'm told they replace them every six months. We only had one hiccup, when one of our bikes went down for a crash and the brake assembly on the handlebars broke and dangled. We were only charged $25 for the repair, which seemed pretty reasonable, as they have you by the throat on rentals. They don't seem to be in it to screw you over--they just want you to have a good time. All in all, the rental rate was extremely reasonable, the staff super helpful, and I had a tremendous experience despite not having been biking more than a handful of times before. read more

I've been back to Moab 6 or 7 times. But it was because of Chili Pepper that we continue to come back. Our first visit to Moab was pre-29ers, the first placed we stopped in was Chili Pepper. Based on our bikes and our gear, it was obvious we were noobies, and definitely tourists. But based on how they treated us, you would have thought we were best friends. They spent 30 mins giving us the lay of the land, and recommended trails, bars, and places to eat. They even set up a shuttle for us with Coyote Shuttle to ride PorcRim, still one of my favorite days on the bike every. Bought shoes from these folks, wore them once and realized they were too big. I brought them in to exchange them for a smaller size and was denied. This was a little frustrating, but understandable. The real problem was the customer service. The lady at the counter seemed aggravated that I was even asking for help, and when I was directed to owner to ask if there was anything we could work out, she continued to have a conversation with her friend "Greg" for five to ten minutes before she finally addressed me. The owner and "Greg" were lamenting at length about how OHV's had ruined Moab, and how e-bikers were coming next to make it even worse. "Greg" suggested that he wished he hadn't moved to Moab in the first place. LOL... After deliberately ignoring me for a number of minutes, she basically told me to stuff the bikes shoes where the sun doesn't shine. I get it if you can't take shoes back once they're worn, but be nice about it, offer suggestions in a helpful and kind way, and say sorry for the inconvenience. I specifically bought these shoes from a local retailer and not the internet because I was hoping that a local retailer would offer me excellent product support. Guess that's not really the case. All in all the lady who owns this place seems like a kooky elitist with a bad attitude. Enjoy my $150 bucks, and this stellar Yelp review. I recommend the Moab Cyclery. I had a last minute repair and one morning to get it done in order to get a last ride in before having to leave town and, while the shop was busy, JB take a look at my bike and said he could get it done sometime the next day. I explained that I would be leaving for home. He took me back to the repair area and went to town on my bike. He went out of his way and he didn't have to. I was impressed and grateful. This place was legit! $50 for an all day, badass mountain bike rental. Pick it up at 8, drop it off before 5. The bike came with all the fancy features you could possibly need. They run you through how to operate the bike and what they include in their repair kit that you take out on the trails with you. The shop also has some really cool clothing, bike apparel needs, souvenirs, and other cool gear. They had signs posted about selling some of their used bikes for cheap, so if you're in the market that might be worth checking out. I brought down my own bike, but my sister and friend rented from here. I had some serious bike envy as their bikes were way more decked out than mine. I took theirs for a spin and it was smooth sailing. Definitely a fun bike to get you out on those awesome Moab trails! read more

Chile Pepper did not have the parts needed in stock (due to my bike's age), so they sent me down the road to Bike Fiend. For that helpful service, I give them 5 stars. I rented bikes from both Poison Spider and Chili Pepper during this trip. Just to give you some background... I am an advanced mountain biker with a lot of experience with high end road and mountain bikes. 1. I rented from Chili Pepper because I wanted the Giant Trance which was not available from Poison Spider. 2. I rented a BH carbon road bike from Poison Spider because Chili Pepper didn't have quality road bikes for rent. My biggest problem with Chili Pepper was customer service. The two different women I dealt with at the checkout were both total b .. i... a. . t .. c... h.... es. Overall, the customer service in this shop sucked. They talked to me like I was an idiot before asking anything about my mtn bike experience. After renting for the first day, I returned my bike for a quick adjustment as it wasn't shifting well and I wanted 15 lbs more air in my rear shock. One of their mechanics says to me, "The hanger was a little bent, make sure you don't lay the bike down on the drive train or you can bend the hanger or screw up the derailer" DUH! Then he says..."You know, instead of adding 15 lbs of air, the rear shock has a pro-pedal switch you could use." DUH! Do you think a rookie would know the dif between 15 lbs of air in his rear shock? What happened to getting to know your customer? When I returned my bike a day early because I decided to road bike the last day, the girl at the front counter rudely asked me what the problem was. I was like... wtf? I explained to her that there was no problem, I just decided to road bike the last day. Why couldn't she say something nice such as, "Oh... did you have a nice time? Was the bike ok? Did everything work out alright because you are turning your bike in a day early, so we wanted to make sure everything went well." Instead she asks me point blank, "Was there a problem?" And oh... btw... they open at 8 a.m. and I was there at 8:10 a.m. and she looked like she just rolled out of bed and I was bothering her by even being there so early. I have to say... the folks at Poison Spider were super customer friendly. They were excited about every person in the shop and running all over to help people. Chili Pepper is a place full of local cliques that are snobbish and unprofessional. I would recommend going here for the right bike, but be aware... their customer service sucks. read more

Worst customer service experience EVER at this bike shop. I visit Moab OFTEN. I am an avid rider of road and mtn bikes and love Moab. I used this shop instead because a high-end mtn bike in xsmall was unavailable at Poison Spider. By the time I rolled into town, while picking up the bike I purchased some mtn gloves and the owner, Tracy, didn't greet us at the counter and was seemingly upset. I was told of the return policy at 5 pm and closing at 6 pm. I must say here the female running the register was kind to us. On our ride, a group member crashed and sustained a bad injury. Our group descended Porcupine slower and more cautiously. By the time I got into town, I had 2 missed calls 2 voicemails from Tracy. I immediately called and asked if she would prefer us to drop off the bike that night or early morning. She said to drop it off at the shop at 7:30 AM the next day (NOTHING wrong with the bike other than a little dust). I even clarified said it wouldn't be a problem to drop it off that night but she said 7:30 AM would work just fine. The next morning, as we were driving to the shop between 7:34 AM and 7:42 AM, I had 4 missed calls 2 voicemails (I don't answer my phone while driving). The voicemails were OBNOXIOUSLY angry reminding us that we were 4 min late and in the last one threatening, "YOU BETTER BE HERE. VERY SOON. I AM NOT HAPPY." (Message me if you wanna hear them, they're hysterical). At 7:42 when we unloaded the bike, my mom and I were scolded and yelled at as she aggressively took the bike and wheeled it in. I was stunned and said nothing. She yelled that 'we had ruined another girls vacation.' As I went in to pay a late fee, the owner continued to stomp and aggressively shove bikes into the display rack while glaring and scolding. The female staff member at the counter was decent as she charged my card (I was planning on paying it anyway). Here's the deal: I understand I should've returned the bike at 7:29 AM to prepare the bike for the next rider. However, IF it were me, and IF this next rider demanded the bike EXACTLY at 8 AM (unlikely), I would kindly say that the last rental customer returned it this morning due to a late finish from a fellow rider's injury on the trail (assuming I would have the SLIGHTEST amount of biker empathy to ask what happened to the customer on the trail) and to fill out paperwork and payment info for the 12 minutes it will take to be ready. (Hey, maybe they'll convince themselves they need some gear as they mosey around for 12 minutes!) I also would have apologized for the slight inconvenience. I highly doubt the next rider would have screamed back "THIS HAS RUINED MY ENTIRE VACATION!!!" Anyway, I also must acknowledge that I'm not aware what kind of pressure this woman was under that morning. THAT BEING SAID, in my opinion it was ABSOLUTELY unnecessary for Tracy to behave and act with as much disrespect and unprofessional behavior to TWO new customers. If Tracy had acted in a professional manner and even had an extra late fee, I could have had an ENTIRELY different experience. I could've felt good about telling my friends about it. I will NEVER go back. I am appalled that the OWNER of the shop has such an unprofessional attitude toward customers. I much prefer to be treated like a local. In hindsight, I laugh BECAUSE it is normal for my fam to buy a new bike each time we visit. Last year, my mom bought a brand new Trek road bike off of a display. This last weekend, on Sunday, I spent $2000 on a mtn bike, and my little sis bought a kid's mtn bike....both from Poison Spider. read more

REVIEW EDITED To make a long story short: I had an unpleasant experience here. In retrospect, it was mid-Winter and I was ignored by the counter-person and several mechanics who were standing around BS'ing. Already annoyed, I asked for repair of something that the mechanics were unfamiliar with. However, rather than recommending a different shop, or offering to rent me a different bike while my parts were FedEx'd in, I was given what I perceived as an arrogant & condescending attitude by employees which made me question the professionalism of the shop. Incidentally, I could not find another shop which was even open in the Winter in Moab, and had the repair done in Grand Junction. I dropped the bike off and it was repaired in two hours with zero attitude and no run around. I accept my part in our interaction, and hope that the customer service issues have been addressed. I'm going to add two more stars because the owner actually took the time to comment. A heads up, if you would have sent me an IM on Yelp I probably would have noticed sooner and we could have resolved the actual incident right after it happened. read more

These guys were really easy to work with. We were going to Moab and renting mountain bikes for two days, and we talked to them for quite awhile about what trails to take, etc. They gave great advice. We rented two really nice mountain bikes (full suspension was awesome). Probably the best we've ever rented. They also rented us a car rack for something like $5 or $10 a day, so we could rent a smaller car for the trip and truck the bikes around. The bike rental rates were a little pricey, but well worth it. To give you and idea on the shop - it's very laid back. They were all hanging out having a beer at the end of their work day and enjoying life. Made me want to work there! read more
