Title: Great vibes, fantastic drinks, but skip the unsolicited lecture We're visiting Bangor for the first time and were absolutely thrilled to stumble upon this spot while walking downtown. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a local coffee shop--loved the aesthetic, the crowd was friendly, and having the lounge area next door is a fantastic touch. The drinks themselves? Delicious. The person at the register clearly knows how to pull a great shot and make a beautiful beverage. However, we had a really odd interaction while ordering. Without any prompting from us, the barista launched into a strange, unsolicited lecture about whether a Café Mocha is Italian or American, speaking to us as if we had never had coffee outside of the U.S. It was especially baffling given that we've visited Italy numerous times. We didn't ask for the history lesson, and being talked down to for no reason definitely left a sour note on an otherwise lovely visit. The bottom line: Absolutely come here for the cozy space and the high-quality drinks. Just hope the person at the register decides to skip the coffee trivia and just make the amazing drinks they clearly know how to make. read more

We were just passing through Bangor on our way to Bar Harbor, but this ended up being my favorite coffee of our entire trip to Maine. I ordered the Violet Femme espresso tonic. It was subtly floral and just the right amount of sweet (rare, since most coffee shops use too much syrup, in my opinion), beautifully garnished with star anise. When you walk in you are surrounded by support of the local community, from the local recipe box, to help needed ads, and even local vendor products! They have a great assortment of drinks you can choose from. I decided to do a Wild Maine Blueberry Iced Tea. When they mentioned molasses as a sweetener option, I knew I had to try it. As a result, the drink had the perfect amount of sweetness, but also a nice blueberry flavor! My wife and I stopped in here while we waited for our flight as it was one of the few places in the area that we found serves matcha. While we didn't try the coffee, it looked like it would be delicious. I can say that the matcha was lovely. It is not sweet (which I love) but allows for you to add flavors or sweeteners of your own (which my wife loves). The service was friendly and efficient. We weren't in a hurry so we found a table and hung out for a bit. This place had the best biscuit sandwich ever I really liked it so much that I was thinking about it and the cheese and the bread itself was so delicious. The turmeric latte was amazing. My husband got it and I kept stealing his drink because it was so good. The latte was generally very good as well. We stopped at Bangor on a Sunday morning and were hoping to get some caffeine boost. We were very happy that we found this spot and we enjoyed each drink ordered (joyride, pistachio latte, blueberry matcha). The staff, oh, such a delight. If I am giving advice to Bangor, the city can benefit from more coffee shops. There were only a handful non-chain coffee shops that open on Sundays. One is drive through only and the other is temporarily closed. I do not know what we would have to do if we did not find this spot. read more

Super quick and easy detour off 95! Awesome lattes. They use tandem beans to brew the espresso. All the syrups are homemade. They also have super good breakfast sandwiches on biscuits and good gluten free muffins. Would definitely stop here again. read more

Visiting Maine and haven't had a great coffee experience until I came to Chimera! First green flag was seeing they had Chemex and pourover equipment for sale. Love the atmosphere and staff here. I've had the iced matcha latte, turmeric lemonade, and iced almond milk latte. The matcha is delicious and I like that it comes unsweetened so you can ask for whatever sweetener you prefer. Having a gourmet coffee shop is important to keeping downtown Bangor vibrant. The updated (likely new owner) version served good coffee and took the time to design a heart which I appreciated. The updated shop design is relaxing and welcoming. Less welcoming was the cashier who was alittle grumpy (and winter has not even set in). Initial impressions are formed in that initial interaction so hopefully it was just an off day for that individual. I see the positive reviews and I think I might have just gotten a bad batch. The brewed coffee was weak at best. I drink a lot of coffee at a lot of coffee houses across the country. This was the first psl I've ever tried and I have to say it was delicious, I can see why people like them so much.
