I ordered takeout for the wife and I. Tried two combination platters, pepper steak.... and Orange Chicken. The combination platters come with pork fried rice and an egg roll for about $7.95. I also ordered a large shrimp fried rice. These meals that I ordered are a staple on any Chinese menu. The food was terrible. What a waste of money. The pork fried rice was not even that good. The orange chicken was very pasty, like the sauce was overcooked or something. The pepper steak was gross. Shrimp fried rice should be good no matter where you go, so I always order some when I'm trying a different place. But not the case here, just didn't have a good flavor, but I will say it had plenty of shrimp in it. That is the only good thing 8 can say about this meal. Sorry for the bad review but I won't be buying food here ever again. Leftovers are going in the trash. read more

This was hit or miss on dishes. We ordered Sesame Chicken, Orange chicken, lo mein, and Black Peppered Chicken. Those last 2 dishes were good. There was no discernable difference between the orange chicken and the sesame chicken. The only difference was some sesame seeds sprinkled over the same reddish-orange sauce on the meat. I have been eating Chinese food for 40 years and never had any sesame chicken like this. It did not have the sweet soy sauce taste, typically associated with sesame chicken. I guess if you are familiar with this establishment and have found dishes you know you like from them it's a safer bet. The Orange and Sesame were not to our liking but the Black Peppered chicken was great. The employees were nice but probably not a place you would want to sit and eat in. read more

I live six blocks from China 88, so it's become one of four main food groups we consume, the others being pizza, beer, and beer. If I were not in Williamsport but rather, say, Washington DC, it probably wouldn't get three stars at most. But it's great when I get a hankering for Chinese living 70 miles from any major urban center. Excellent wonton soup! It's normal Chinese-American, so don't expect any truly Chinese dishes. But for Hagerstown? It works for me. read more

Let me start with some of my qualifications - I was born and raised in China til I moved to the US at the age of 11. Throughout high school and college I worked for the local Chinese Restaurant, 6 years all told. So I know a little bit about American Chinese Food. For lunch I had the General Tso's Chicken lunch combo with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll. Let me break it down for you one by one. 1. General Tso's Chicken - the chicken they used was dark meat which is fine since it was lunch and only $5.99. The batter was light but very crispy, the sauce didn't make it soggy. That's a really hard to do and a 10/10. The sauce was almost there. The sauce is what makes this dish so unique traditionally, and it's supposed to show so many flavor profiles (that was missed by most restaurants), the sauce is supposed to be sweet, spicy, a little sour, and lastly you should taste a little salt as a contrast. Their sauce is short on the last two, it's mostly sweet and spicy and no hints of sour and saltiness. But I'm not mad, I was describing a 5 star General Tso's Chicken. This one I would give it a 4/5. 2. Pork fried rice - Ok. You've realized by now I think a lot with my taste palate, along with lineage of tasting great Chinese food, I've probably a Chines Food snob. With all that said, things like fried rice and egg rolls are so often overlooked by restaurants evens themselves, but the best places do the little things that make their stuff just a little bit more tastier. The best places use the BBQ spare ribs they sell on the menu (with that awesome sweet BBQ sauce) in their pork fried rice, the meat is almost sweet and crystallized with you fry it in the wok. They did use the BBQ pork but the sauce on it was lacking flavor . The rice had that good wok fired flavor and the veggies were decent (adding green onions would have nice too). Overall, decent for lunch. 4/5. 3. Pork egg roll - Same as the fried rice, the pork left me hoping for more. The dough on the outside was very well done, crispy but not heavy and greasy. But overall, it could have a little more flavor. 4/5. So, everything considered, not bad! 4/5. For a big lunch portion that leave you leftover for under $6. That's not bad for lunch! read more

I purchased an Egg Roll, Beef Teriyaki, Pineapple Chicken, Beef Mei Fun, House Fried Rice and Wonton Soup. Absolutely delicious! We went to China 88 while we were traveling and spent the night in Williamsport. Little did we know that we found one of the Best Chinese Restaurants South of Canada and North of the Florida Keys. We only wished we lived there to be able to enjoy the quality of the food here. My wife and I both had dishes with shrimp and I have never seen shrimp so large and so well cooked before China 88. We had Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Shrimp with Curry Sauce and everything about both dishes was to die for. For dessert, we got an order of Fried Chinese Donuts and those were also the best we ever had. Even had some leftover to enjoy with our coffee the next morning. Three cheers to the owners and chefs of this wonderful establishment. We will look forward to our next trip through this area to dine on the best Chinese Takeout Ever. read more

My fried rice was the "bright yellow" kind (if you know what I'm talking about that will be helpful) and in my Mongolian beef, my beef was scarce and my onion was abundant. The food wasn't horrendous but it wasn't superb either. I got moo shu chicken. It was fine. I also got a spring roll. It tasted like the oil it was fried in was turning bad. The restaurant is old and dirty. They basically give you the to go containers and plastic forks to eat your food in the restaurant. Kinda odd. Definitely get take out if you dare. read more

Have been to many chinese places im hagerstown and none of them were good. We finally found this place and it is one of the best take out chinese places we have had. The food is always amazing and unlike every where else there eggrolls do not taste like they have soaked it dirty oil they actually taste fresh. We aren't from the area but found this place for dinner en route. They seem to do mostly takeout business, but we ate in and found their booths quite comfortable, with a little caddy at the table filled with packets of soy sauce, hot sauce, mustard, and duck sauce. All three entrees were delicious and fresh-tasting. We ordered: Hunan bean curd, which had a slightly spicy brown sauce with black beans, fried tofu, and vegetables. Kung Po chicken, which had a good sauce, but wasn't super spicy. It had lots of peanuts and vegetables - water chestnuts, peppers, celery, and also included baby corn which is always a plus. General Tso's chicken, ordered extra spicy. The sauce was garlicky and not too sweet! The breading on the chicken was nice and crispy, not soggy at all. It smelled and tasted incredible! Each of the entrees came with a huge plate of white rice. We also got shrimp fried rice, which had baby shrimp and bean sprouts. It didn't have a lot of flavor on its own, but the addition of soy and hot sauce helped. Besides the great food, though, the woman running the front of the restaurant was really helpful and friendly! Not a bad Chinese carry-out at all. The restaurant is pretty clean and they also have about 5 or 6 tables that you can eat at if you don't want to take the food with you. Prices are pretty reasonable and they have an extensive menu: 39 different lunch specials and literally over 130 different regular dishes or combinations to choose from. The food we ordered was ready in about 10 minutes, looked and tasted pretty fresh, and was generally well prepared. My only complaint, oddly enough, was their style of fried rice - a dish that's pretty hard to mess up, in my opinion. It looks different than the fried rice you find at most Chinese restaurants (more of a yellow color than a tan) and doesn't come with a lot of the vegetables that most other restaurants have. It might have benefited from being fried a little longer. As a result, I thought it didn't have a ton of flavor. Overall, though, given their convenient location, timeliness and care of their food preparation of the other dishes we ordered, their prices, the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the amount of dishes available, it's a good restaurant for what they do. Maybe not a solid 4 stars, probably closer to 3.5, but I felt that some of the many factors that made it better than most Chinese carry-outs were a reasonable excuse to round up and not down. read more
