The food is subpar at best. No crab in the crab wontons, fried rice didn't have any eggs, peas or carrots, unseasoned and plain. I spent over 100$ at this place. Food is not good, go elsewhere. My absolute love of East Coast styled Chinese food stems from the countless meals I had from this restaurant during my high school years. They knew my order before I even walked in the building and had it ready for me quickly. My usual go-to's were a few of their lunch specials, chicken lo mein, and sweet & sour chicken. Truthfully, our order at your restaurant was born out of sheer desperation as our typical spots were closed. While on hold praying that you guys would take our large order, we heard someone else placing one just about as large as ours. You guys were BUSY and our large order was not only 100% correct, it was delicious! I wish that I had taken some pictures but sadly we devoured the food. For context we had 8 eggrolls, 8 spring rolls, 2 orders of General Tso's chicken, Orange chicken, Crispy Mongolian beef, Pepper Steak, Shrimp fried rice, Combination lomein, Shrimp egg fuyong, Happy family, and Egg drop soup. EVERYTHING was so good! Each dish was flavorful and was easy to distinguish by taste. The dishes leaned more into the style of traditional Chinese home cooking vs the American version of Chinese food meaning the dishes were not oily, greasy, or full of salt yet had plenty of flavor. There is no atmosphere to speak of here--just three tables and a partially mirrored wall. Service was friendly and speedy. So disappointed! Ordered shrimp chow mein for delivery from the special combination menu section. The description said it would come with rice and an egg roll. Obviously, it costs more than a normal order but comes with more food right? NOPE. They sub the noodles and give you only rice. So what I received was a bunch of onions with some shrimp and rice. No noodles. Correct me if I'm wrong but noodles are what make dishes mein. Any other Chinese restaurant gives you rice in addition to the actual chow mein when you order a combo platter. This is my first time at Eastern 89. I ordered a large hot and sour soup, an order of steamed dumplings, and the Szechuan chicken lunch With fried rice. The hot and sour soup was fabulous. It was thick And flavorful with just the right amount of heat. It was one of the best hot and sour soup's I've had in the DMV. The steamed dumplings were also very good. They were firm, with a flavorful filling with hints of ginger. The dipping sauce was soy and ginger-based and had great flavor. There were eight dumplings to the order at slightly over five dollars it was a very good find The Szechuan chicken and fried rice was not as good. The chicken was overcooked and not very flavorful, and the fried rice was very oily with not much flavor. My four star rating is based on five stars for the hot and sour soup, five stars for the steam dumplings,And three stars for the Szechuan chicken. read more

This place has become our regular "go to"; if we can't decide what we're in the mood for, we go here. Found it asking around for egg foo yong (we get the pork, really good marinated "shar shu). Now we we're branching out to other stuff on the menu. Everything so far has been good. Trying their version of sweet and sour (don't know if it's Mandarin, or what, we'll see in a minute).
