The restaurant was fairly clean, and the food was kept hot, which I appreciated. There was a large selection at the buffet, and it's definitely a good place if you want to leave full. However, most of the dishes were lacking flavor and tasted pretty bland. One major downside for me was the ice cream area. The scoops are shared by everyone and are only sitting in a container of water between uses instead of being washed or sanitized. Considering how many people do not wash their hands after using the restroom, I was uncomfortable using a community scoop that everyone touches, so I skipped the ice cream entirely. I've been here before several times. Today it was hot summer day. Entrance was smelly. The main counter has no price menu. The two of us paid about $30 for the buffet. The maître d' wanted us to sit in the back room. The back room has tables and booths it was about half full of customers eating from the buffet. The smell when I walked into the room was putrid, kind of a rotten fish and smelly garbage mixed with wet rug. I looked at the person I was with and they said do you want to get our $money back and leave? I confronted the manager up front stating that the back room is horrible and I want my money back. She said we can sit up front so we stayed. Some of the entrees were acceptable for China buffet fare. Nothing worth mentioning. I don't think we'll be back. Pretty decent for a buffet. I like the pay when you enter. Then eat and drink to your heart's content. They recently renovated which made it a bit nicer though the seating area seems the same. New sushi area which is interesting. I've been coming here for years since my college friend moved to this city. Sentimental place for great catching up on our own time and not being rushed. Tried this Buffet on a work trip. Have to admit, I love my buffets. really certain i was asian in a past life. Anyways, good selection, good service, food was aging a bit, however this was at 2 in the afternoon, So i couldn't expect 100% fresh. I would definitely go back and try again!! read more

China buffet has not been a favorable experience. They have nice Asian decor; however, I feel their money is spent on decorations. There are many things I feel wrong about the restaurant including: crab rangoon and Chinese donut tastes sour No friendly service, no one to serve tea and no one to pick up dishes It's all self service, unlike other buffet they do not take you to your table and ask what would you like to drink General Tsao doesn't have any spice it tastes bland The soup trays do not have lids on them leaving exposure to flies getting in and drown The soup looks burnt or dried out Desserts are unappetizing, old and not fresh My money wasn't well spent and not going to eat there again. I have been going here since I moved to mason city. This is by far the best Chinese food I have ever had. These types of places always leave you with heartburn but it's worth it. They recently renovated the place and bought out the shop next to it. The decor is amazing and the extra seating is great. The food selection grew as well and kept the same great taste. read more

we are from the Des Moines and Ames. We have been to many Chinese buffet's and this one was bland. there were peas in the egg drop soup in which we have personally never seen peas in egg drop soup. If an Ethiopian Threw up on a plate and the rest of his family was waiting behind him with spoons, it would taste better than anything this Disgusting Excuse for a Chinese Restaurant provided. I wanted to take my family out for a nice Asian buffet, my normal choice is the New City Hibachi and Sushi (new). But since New City doesn't serve crab legs, which some Chinese buffets do, I opted to try this Dysentery infested spot on Taft. The parking lot was full upon arrival, making me think I have been missing something in Mason City, maybe a Chinese gem. Ummm NO, come to find out that next door is a Gym, and they played "Boom Boom" Heavy Bass music throughout our dinner that I actually at one point thought that music was the restaurants', but there was a pause and then I could hear the plinky-plunky Chinese music of the restaurant. In fact with a full parking lot, We found that there was only like 3-4 tables with people at them, and this was around 6 PM. dinner time. But OK OK, they DO have crab legs on the buffet along with every other food choice that EVERY Chinese restaurant in America has. So STRAIGHT to the crabs legs I go, sat down and started cracking. They were the smallest crab legs I ever saw in retrospect. After my daughter and I ate one leg, we looked at each and said ummmm no. Snow Crab they were not, blue, dungness, All nooooo. I have no idea what kind of crab it was, Maybe Hermit Crab, that would be my best guess. But they have other items on the buffet, so I went for it. Buffet was out of General Tzo's, but they eventually put more up. It was edible, but was very soupy. No Dumplings, No Hunan anything, no Szhweuan (spelling I know sorry) just weird concoctions, lots of shrimp dishes, but I looked at a few of them, shrimp NOT NOT NOT DE-VEINED, If I Want to eat poop, I have two cats with a litter box, but lets not speak of cats right now, I still have their food in my body, and that topic is too close to home right now. The one reviewer who gave this dump 5 stars is a dummy, his most truthful comment was yeah they DID HAVE CHOCOLATE MILK. Weird but OK. Avoid this place like the plague, Go To Wok and Roll, or especially GO to New City Hibachi buffet. same price, MUCH BETTER FOOD, SOME OF WHICH THEY COOK RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Don't go here or call here. When I gave my card number over the phone the person on the end of the phone said my card was declined and hung up on me. I called back and told the person on the end of the line who took my order how much money I had in my account and then spoke in his native language to his buddies with laughter what I told him and at that point I told him to cancel my order. I have ordered from this place multiple times. They can't understand the language of this country and ridicule you when they type in the wrong information into the credit card machine. Put an order in online, gave them 45 minutes to have it ready. When we went to pick it up the guy at the counter at first acted like he had no clue. We said ordered online and then he finally knew. Told us the ink ran out on the fax machine and didn't want to put the order in without knowing the whole thing (this is where a non-dumb ass would've called the number on the order, also we peaked over the counter and saw the print out with the whole order, no ink issues). No apology, zero give a shit about it, had us place the order then, no discount or coupons to try and right the messup. Place the order and I said how about a discount for the screw up to which after 3 minutes of hemming and hawing decided he could "throw in some extra crab rangoons" I mean this guy is acting get like 2 extra rangoons are like his first born child. We ask how long now and get told 20 to 30 minutes, no rush to the back to try and get it out right away. He also made sure to blame us, the customer, by saying "I dont like that machine, next time be sure to call, thats how i prefer it." Guess what you dolt, there wont be a "next time." Clearly this employee and the establishment just don't give a shit. Shovel people in for the buffet and hopefully no one will put an order in.
