My wife and I visited Pasta Bella on a Sunday evening around 5:00 PM. When we arrived, the restaurant was not very busy, but by the time we finished our meal, the dining room had filled up and was extremely busy--a good sign that this is a popular local favorite. One thing that stood out was how well staffed the restaurant was. Even as the dining room became busier, service never slowed down. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and did an excellent job making sure our drinks were filled, checking on our meals, and making sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. I ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with a house salad, and my wife had the Chicken Florentine (without mushrooms) along with a cup of Pasta Fagioli soup. Overall, the meal was excellent. The house salad was average but a nice size, featuring lettuce, a cucumber slice, a tomato slice, and croutons. The Pasta Fagioli soup had a very good flavor and was prepared a little differently than what we're accustomed to, but we both really enjoyed it. We were also served fresh-baked Italian rolls, which were warm and delicious. The entrée portions were extremely generous. My Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo arrived piping hot, and the Alfredo sauce had a phenomenal flavor. My wife's Chicken Florentine included two chicken breasts that were well-seasoned, tender, and cooked perfectly. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. We had planned to order dessert, but the portion sizes were so large that we simply didn't have room. For two dinners, soup, salad, rolls, and water to drink, our total bill was right around $40, which we felt was an excellent value for the quality and quantity of food we received. I'm a huge fan of pasta, but not being able to have glutens limits where I go to eat. I went there for dinner with a friend and really wish I had gone sooner. It was delicious. You can start your meal off with a soup or salad. The salad is pretty simple. I went with the minestrone with gluten free noodles. It was delicious and I ate it all to the last drop. They also serve garlic bread with your meal. This is not gluten free so I did not try it, but everyone else had it and raved over it. I ordered the Chicken Florentine with gluten free noodles. They serve a lot of food and I was able to take it home and have a second meal out of it. It was even excellent the second day. Not only is the food delicious, but the staff was fantastic. They were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was really busy, but our waitress was able to check on us and make sure we were doing okay. The acoustics in the restaurant make it quite loud. Not in an obnoxious way, but this is not quiet dining. It's the perfect place to bring family and friends for a meal together. I'm not sure why I waited so long to try Pasta Bella, but I'm so glad I finally did. Not everything can be made gluten free so definitely talk to your waiter, but there are a lot of options. read more

They were swamped to say the least. The staff there hustled like you Wouldn't believe. We had drinks salad and bread within five or six minutes of getting seated. We ordered when we put in our drink order because we knew it was so busy. Expecting a long wait we had our food within 10 minutes after getting our drinks. I won't lie, upon entering I genuinely thought this was going to be like Olive Garden based off the decor and the smell. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the food here. We ordered the bruschetta, which was okay, not the best but it wasn't bad at all. The bread, appetizer, and my soup came out right away. The pasta fagioli was good. My husband liked his salad. I ordered a coffee and the fettuccini carbonara. Be aware the portion sizes here are huge, I couldn't finish my dinner and needed a to go box. The pasta was good though. My husband ordered the rib eye steak with spaghetti which was well worth it. The steak was cooked to perfection. We ordered the tiramisu and the chocolate cake as well. The tiramisu was delicious, the chocolate cake was too rich and my daughters didn't finish it. Overall, this place was very good! Our server was very nice and checked in with us often. I had eaten a couple excellent meals at Pasta Bella at their old location and found them delicious. The new (current) location was ultimately disappointing. After stopping there a couple times over the months when the wait was overlong, the third time was a charm (it was fairly late on a weekend evening). On the positive side- the waitstaff was very nice and efficient. The garlic rolls were very tasty. The serving size was huge- so you won't leave hungry. I enjoyed the wine. I think I ordered the wrong dish- Chicken Damabianca. Huge chicken breasts with sautéed mushrooms in a cream brandy sauce over spaghetti pasta. It did not look appetizing and was bland at best. The humongous pieces of chicken overpowered the dish and the sauce seemed like Alfredo. Even adding a lot of shredded parmesan didn't fix the flavor. I left over half my meal, as I knew I couldn't face all that chicken a second time. If you are looking for a pasta feast at a good price, this might be worth a stop. I'd just avoid the huge chicken breasts. read more

Honestly, I felt the food looked aesthetically pleasing online; maybe I just ordered the wrong dish when I got to the restaurant. I had the chicken Alfredo which is one of my favorites. The pasta, itself, 8/10, the Alfredo 0/10, the chicken 1/10. This is far from good, this was barely mediocre. Either people in Iowa suck at cooking Italian food, or they have no place having an Italian restaurant. I hate to say this but Olive Garden and Fazollis fast food "Italian" has a better Alfredo than this place. The chicken was either boiled or baked, bland at best. You can clearly see that in the picture. The Alfredo almost tasted like it was from a jar, if that's homemade, it's the worst recipe I've ever tasted. 0 garlic and tasted like it had flour in it...if you're from a major city that has good Italian, this is probably not the place to go. This is truly the best restaurant in Mason city. Their food is always fresh. The portions are always large and they always taste fantastic. They're homemade soups are truly some of our favorites. We enjoyed our dinner at Pasta Bella. What a popular place! This restaurant was hopping!! My husband search for an Italian restaurant for my pre-marathon meal. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meal! I ordered the linguine with white clam sauce and he ordered the fettuccine carbonara. Mine had chopped clams with a nice white wine sauce. His had prosciutto and mushrooms in a nice cream sauce. We both enjoyed our entrees which huge portions! The warm garlic knots were delicious to eat with our pasta dishes. The pros: The main course had a lot of flavor, well balanced was filling (mine was the lobster ravioli). The flavor on the house bread, they had a good garlic spread on it, and you could tell the toasted in in a pizza oven The cons: The prep work, feels like they are taking short cuts. The side salad is a bowl of iceberg with a slice of roma and a slice of cucumber. On the house bread, the cheese, it was 3 slices of deli sliced rounds. Funny... how I remember this place used to be a Burger King a long long time ago. Then it was a Chinese restaurant and now....it's an Italian resturant. I was told the new owners were Bosnian. Hmmm..let's see how they do with Italian food. They did a nice job remodeling it. When we first came in, all the waitresses were waiting at the door to greet us. Kinda odd, but nice. Very clean and neat. Fast and super friendly service. We ordered 2 pizzas. A cheese and a veggie pizza. While we waited, the waitress gave us complimentary garlic bread knots. Seriously, It didn't take very long for the pizzas to get done. They looked awesome. Hot and fresh. Kinda thin crust. The waitress told us, in her thick accent, the veggie pizza is her favorite since her husband makes it. Thats cool. I'm guessing it's all homemade. It didn't taste like frozen crust. It was pretty good. Not as awesome as it looked. For some reason...it was laking flavor. Maybe more garlic? Salt? Oregano? I'm not sure what is was missing, but it needed more flavor. We then ordered 1 slice of chocolate cheese cake. That was really good. Its not fun to share a slice when it tastes so good. Mmm mmm MMM!! This place is amazing. It is well worth the money. The free bread and salad are both delicious and the food is amazing. I've had so much from the menu but I'd definitely recommend trying the pink sauce on any of their pasta dishes it's amazing. They're Caesar salad was to die for, and the pizzas are just as good. I couldn't say enough good thing about this place. The staff are so friendly and you can tell that this is a small family business!
