We only ever order takeout here so I can't comment on the dine in experience. But we've been going here for years and it's consistently very good food. This place has the best lo mein; it has a very rich flavor, dark color, and the noodles always taste fresh. We've always had friendly customer service on the phone and when we pick up. read more

Never again.... I have always considered China Café to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. I remember when the original owner opened in Lake City/Forest Park over 30+ years ago and then branched out. I have been faithful to this location in particular over the last 20+ years in spite of immigration and health inspections issues they have faced. I'm not sure who owns China Café III now, or how many owners there have been, but what I experienced last night was inexcusable. My husband and I dropped in Sunday evening, April 10, 2016, to eat in the restaurant with additional take out orders for our daughter and grandson at home. Overall, in the neighborhood of a $55-70 tab before the tip. I ordered the House Special Lo Mein combination, my husband ordered the shrimp and broccoli with garlic sauce. My egg drop soup arrived first, as it should, tasty but lukewarm at best. No big deal. My Lo Mein then arrived. The beef was obviously overcooked, old, dried out - whatever....it was absolutely unappetizing and tasted terrible. Completely inedible. The fried rice was dry and grossly overcooked. Two bites of food, a taste for my husband and I pushed the plate away. The young server asked if everything was all right and I told her no and showed her a piece of the beef, which looked like 10-year-old jerky. She took my plate back to the kitchen to see if it "could be fixed". I heard the cook/owner (?) express his "displeasure" at having the meal returned. The server then returned with the same plate and said that there was nothing they could do to "fix it". The obvious "fix" was to prepare another plate of food, but that didn't seem to be an option. I told her I didn't want it and wanted it removed from my bill. I told her to cancel the "to go" portion of the meal as well. My husband's food had already arrived and he said it was quite good, however, he was not comfortable eating in front of me, although I told him to continue eating, I was fine. The server removed my plate, the cook/owner (?) came out of the kitchen and modified my bill to reflect my husband's food and my soup. The server was obviously uncomfortable at being the intermediary and was apologetic numerous times. I told her it was fine, that she had no control over the kitchen. My husband got a "to go" box for his food and we got up to pay the bill. I went to the counter and, most likely out of habit more than anything, the cashier asked if everything was ok, to which I replied, no it had not been ok. How she could have missed the previous exchange was beyond me - we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. I said my food was inedible but that the kitchen didn't seem to want to make things right. I mentioned that the proper response would have been to prepare another meal, but that I could hear the anger from the kitchen so it seemed pointless at that point to go any further. The cook/owner (?) was standing at the kitchen door behind the sushi counter listening to everything being said and I told the cashier that I had been a good, frequent customer for more than 20 years but that this incident alone is enough that I would not be returning. All she kept saying was she was sorry. No, she wasn't sorry, nor was the kitchen sorry......there is zero customer service there. I've ignored the poor customer service long enough. There are a multitude of Chinese restaurants in the area. I'll take my business elsewhere. And to the young server...I still tipped you 20% of the bill. You had the opportunity to make more from my order, but management prevented that from happening. You were delightful. As you continue in your working career, I hope that you will always seek employment with companies who value customer service and quality of product. Best of luck to you. The bald man who I think was an ownwer was very rude and spoke to me like I was a child. It was my first visit and they were not patient with my questions. I got home and found that the girl who took my order wrote down the wrong selection. I will never go there again or recommend it. read more

My husband and I love this place. We order form there at least once a week. Jason the sushi chef is very friendly and helpful on recommending different types for sushi to try. read more
