I needed to go to Jerome for an ultrasound last week. Of course I'm going to check out the local restaurants and see what our food options were. I did Google Chinese restaurants in Jerome and this joint, China Garden came up with a 5 star ranking. Curiosity got the best of me and I needed to see why this Chinese restaurant in this small town is 5 stars. Granted, there were only a few reviews but I had to know why! Honestly, I should have read the Yelp reviews as well. It might have lead me to another restaurant for lunch. My friend and I made it in a little after 1. There were a couple guests eating which is a good sign. We sat ourselves and waited for our server. My friend ordered a diet Coke while we were looking over the menu. Our server had to ask my friend several times what he was drinking because she forgot. I should have taken our first interaction with our server as an indication of how our lunch service would be. I ordered some hot and sour soup to start lunch off. For lunch I got the tofu, shrimp and scallops dish. I did ask the server if there are any vegetables in the dish. Nothing was listed but the 3 things of the dish. She said yes so I didn't worry about adding extra veggies to my plate. Our food came out at the same time. My plate did look good cause it was tofu, shrimp and scallops but I was curious to where the vegetables were at since there were supposed to be some in my dish. Technically there were a few slices of carrots and water chestnuts. When I think of vegetables in a stir fry dish, I think of brocolli, bamboo shoots, onions..... The fact that the server didn't tell me that those were the only two vegetables in my dish was rather annoying. I would have approached ordering my lunch differently. The tofu was soft. The shrimp was nicely sized and cooked perfectly. The scallops were baby scallops and you get a handful of them. The sauce was flavorful and savory. It was actually a good dish but it was pretty much all one texture. If there was some brocolli florettes to add some crunch, I think this dish would have been so much better. My server did forget to order my soup. I probably should have taken that as a sign and not have it. But she brought it out after I asked her about it. I'm going to recommend saving yourself a few bucks and not order it. It was overwhelmingly sour. Way too much vinegar in the soup. No spice and no flavor could be tasted. I ate a couple bites and set it to the side. Our server was clueless, lazy and inattentive. The food was decent. The plate I had could have been that much better if there was a crunch element to it. It's cool I got to check this joint out but it's far from 5 stars on Google. Yelp had the right ranking and I should have read the reviews on Yelp before eating here. read more

The food was not very good. My rice was a little hard and the chicken was soggy and bland. I could only eat a few bites. I wasn't going to leave a review because at the end of the day, I don't have high expectations for a chinese restaurant in Jerome, Idaho, but now that it's been a couple of hours, I am feeling really sick. read more

I'm not saying it's all that good, but it's the best we've got in the magic valley. I'd actually give it closer to a 2 or 3 but I'm giving it a 5 because every other Chinese place around here sucks. We only order takeout but the lobby seems clean enough. I've read reviews where people have said servers are rude, but I'm convinced the reviewers are culturally ignorant because they're just fine to me. The prices are a little higher than what I'd like to pay, but they're no more unreasonable than anyone else. The food tastes good enough to make us return customers. I'm sorely disappointed with how small the egg roll is for $5, but it tasted fine. If you're looking for American Chinese, this place is better than what you'll find elsewhere nearby. read more

Not good! Food was tasteless. We had to drown it in soy sauce for some flavor. In a chicken, beef and shrimp dish, only got two shrimp and one still had the shell on it. First and last time we'll go there. read more

This place was pretty good for the price. I don't remember our servers name but she was very kind. The food portion was very well served. We got full and had to take it to go. The reason I give 4 stars is because the orange chicken had a bit too much of an orange taste. Of course everyone makes this dish different. Definitely a place to try! read more

Well, was real happy with this Chinese cuisine when they debut with and additional drive up window... due to a tragic event, China Garden temporarily closed... After opening under new management, the food quality has suffered. Presentation and flavor has been sub par. I use to be a frequent visitor, but after a few samplings of different dishes, I've come to the conclusion, the food is just not the same as the young vibrant couple's fare they proudly offered to their patrons... :'-( read more

We tried calling on Monday night at 6 pm to have a takeout order delivered. No one answered, we left a message with our phone number to call us back. No one called for ten minutes, so we called again and left the same message. We waited ten more minutes and still no one called us back. We called again, left a third message. First of all lemme say the service was good. But that's about it. I came in for higher hopes for this one cause last time I came in and ate it. Wasn't too bad the dish I got was sweet and sour chicken. I was disappointed but not nearly as bad as i am now. So this time I came in was greeted sortie was more like the girl in front was sortie thinking she couldn't look at me i mean service wasnt bad. But she had the look on her face like she was lost or didn't belong there. Was weird. Anyway I ordered a cashew chicken dinner with chicken fried rice. To go so I get home to eat the rice was good but there was nothing but rice I mean chicken fried rice. But honestly was ok for plain seasoned rice and nothing else so then can the cashew chicken. Upon first bite I noticed the weird taste of over roast for some odd reason it tasted like over carroty if that's even a word. I assumed they used can carrots in which spolied this meal for me I did finish it I was hungry. Then came the egg roll. Which should have been called the grease roll. Wasn't impressed with the food or the service. Spent an hour waiting for what should have been a relatively simple order: General (Tso) chicken with pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice, large hot sour soup, and egg rolls. Let me say this, the egg roll were the actual highlight of the order! We were unable to find anything that resembled pork in he tried rice except for some miniscule, and I mean miniscule as the grains of rice were at LEAST double the size of what we determined to be 'pork'. The two chickens were dry, with very little sauce for either except the actual coating, and both were cold by the time we received our order. in addition, the General (Tso) Chicken was VERY tough to chew. The cult sour soup looked more like egg drop with Tobasco sauce used heavily in it for the 'spicy', and tasted like water and Tobasco. On the UP side, the egg rolls were cool but still AWESOME! As I mentioned, we were there JUST short of an hour with no one ahead of us, apparently their credit card machine had locked up, also lending to getting cold dinners. Not having anyone ahead of us, and the drive-up window being the primary method of order and pick-up, I expected the food MUCH sooner. I can't imagine how the food and service would be had dining in been available. Overall, this isn't a place that I'll be back to any time soon, if at all. But, as we chose to ignore the recommendations of family and friends in Wendell and Jerome, and the fact that China Village (our primary go to spot) is closed on Sundays, we decided to ignore all and tried China Garden because we REALLY wanted oriental, and would be able to oriental AND make up our own minds. I have to give this place 4 stars because it's one of the few restaurants that are worth visiting in Jerome. They serve the best chinese food I've eaten in the Magic Valley (I know that's not saying much). If you're in Jerome and you really want chinese, I suggest you come here and skip the other place in town. read more

I have eaten here before the new owners took over and now since they have re-opened the business. I have found the food to be very well prepared, the staff are courteous and efficient and I would highly recommend this establishment. While it is not the high end Chinese food one can find in much larger cities, i.e. SLC, Boise, Seattle, Portland, it very good comparing to other restaurants in the state and expecially compared to other place in Jerome and Twin Falls. read more

Really delicious sweet & sour chicken and the ham fried rice is best I've had since ChinaTown in San Francisco, CA. The hostess/server was only front of the house person seen but she was friendly and attentive. It was worth getting off the road in tiny Jerome, ID off I-84 exit 167. The others in my group loved the kung pao beef and orange chicken. The pork and seed though was a bit dry and tough but better than a few I've had elsewhere. It had its grand reopening today, they used to be a lot better. Pulled into drive through ordered a 6.50 lunch special and substituted lo-mein instead of rice. She came back 5 minutes later and said my total was 9.50. I said oh, I thought I got the special for 6.50 with lo-mein. She said oh, OK. She came back a few minutes later with my food and said that'll be 6.85. I got home and it was rice crap instead of the lo-freaking-mein. If you are looking for bad service, this is the best place to go in Jerome. Service is rude, for no reason. They up charge for every little thing, including sweet and sour, when you order an egg roll. I will never eat at this place again. read more
