In from out of town, I stopped at Sushi Ya after a recommendation from a local in a meeting. The outside could leave you a bit skeptical but don't let that fool you. I fought the initial thought to run to somewhere with a bit more curb appeal - but I am glad that I didn't. I was greeted as I entered the front door and took a seat at the sushi bar directly in front of all of the fresh fish and those that would be making my dinner. After a couple of minutes of looking over the menu I ordered. This place is fantastic - not sure why a few other reviewers commented that it was the worst sushi that they have ever had, I was for sure very pleased with what I was served. The food prep area is very clean and everything is prepared to order and fresh. Everyone has a bad day or makes a mistake - it is how those things are resolved that is important and how the food tastes in the end. I would stop here again if I were in town - you should too. read more

First time coming here was an extremely disappointing experience. Took 45 mins to get half of our order out. The only people that got to eat dinner were our kids and they all had to share a fork to eat their rice. Not worth over $80. We will go elsewhere for sushi. read more

My most recent trip tosushi ya was EXTREMELY disappointing. The service was slow and the staff was grumpy and did not care to hide it. My wife and I ordered a total of four sushi rolls, w/ drinks at a total of $65, and on top of that the sushi was bland and tasted like grocery store sushi. If you want good sushi this is not the place. Save yourself some money and go to Nara. read more

I really enjoy the all you can eat sushi. There are many good choices to select from. I frequently eat here with a group of friends. However, the ambiance is really challenged, at least during the lunch time with the radio music they play. The music is fine but listening to the commercials makes for a horrible eating experience. It would be helpful to either invest in a music streaming source without commercials or not have music at all. The commercials make it a real challenge. This is your typical sushi place you'd find somewhere not very near the coast. It matches with almost any lower end sushi restaurant you'll go to. The atmosphere was lacking any real pazazz and the open floor plan is a little odd, but it worked for our party of four just fine as we were seated in one of the booths. The server was great! I didn't catch her name but she was a very friendly, helpful and cheery gal from Bosnia. She helped one of us who was having trouble deciding on the menu out tremendously. The food was served quickly which is always nice. The hot Sake was very strong so beware! I decided that the best bang for your buck was to get the $25 all you can eat sushi deal and it really does pay for itself but if you're paying for three, like I was, it can add up quick! I got two rolls and some Nigiri Sashimi. The "Rocky Mountain Roll" was delicious and well prepared. I always judge a sushi place on their simplest roll which is usually the "California Roll", and their's was decent. A little fishy but not horrible. The Salmon and Tuna Nigiri was actually pretty tasty and seemed rather fresh. As fresh as it can be! The Octopus and Scallop were over powered by the sesame seeds they put over the top. That's all I could really taste. Overall though, this isn't a bad spot if you're in the mood for a lot of sushi that's fairly prepared and if you're looking to get a good deal. If you want higher end sushi this may not be the spot for you. But again the waitresses and the staff seemed very pleasant and the people catering to me and my group are always something I look for going to a restaurant; so A+ on that front Sushi Ya! read more

Admittedly we're new to twin Falls, but we have had sushi from west to east coast. I would not call myself a sushi connoisseur just because frankly it's really expensive. We were eating at Sushi ya a few times now, and every time it is as delicious as we remember it as colorful and I swore the chef is a plating genius. They never cease to put out really beautiful plates. Our eyes were bigger than our stomach this visit, we both ordered waaaay too much sushi but we savored every bite. We love coming here every time we pass through Twin. Good service, clean, and the food is always great. Usually have 4-5 all you can eat rolls. The chicken strips are really good too if you have someone who doesn't eat sushi. So here's the deal. We yelped sushi places and saw that this was poorly reviewed. However, the hotel staff where we stayed strongly recommended Sushi Ya over Sushi Tokyo which was highly rated on Yelp. Soooooo....this place sucks. It was the worst sushi either of us have ever had. I ordered the rainbow roll which was not only made incorrectly (the different fish were INSIDE the roll) but the rice was overlooked and the fish itself had little flavor. I also ordered the spicy tuna roll with equally overcooked rice and poor quality tuna. Also, the "low salt" soy sauce was clearly mislabeled. Tasted like a salt lick. The best part of the meal was the Asaho beer. It was so bad that we did not finish the sushi and drove to Sushi Tokyo to try it out. read more

I order their sashimi plate, and found it uninspiring and lacking in the "chef's" skill with his knife. All of the pieces were cut irregularly and of various thicknesses, and the tuna was not thoroughly thawed! As for the rolls that we had, they were okay. It began when I ordered a glass of chardonnay, delivered in a small champagne flute. Asked the waiter if he had a wine glass, since this seemed like a skimpy serving. "No. We don't have wine glasses." But I know you do, since it's always been served in a wine glass. Got up, found the manager and asked if I could get a wine glass with a regular pour of wine, and was told that they are out of wine glasses. Hint: Run down to the Dollar Store and get some wine glasses to use until you can order more. Oooo. Can't wait for the miso soup, which I adore. Came to my table COLD. Whaaat? Couldn't find the waiter, so once again I had to get up and find someone. After five minutes a new bowl arrived. Five minutes? All right. Ready for the tasty (and different) house salad of shredded cabbage and carrots with the tasty and creamy house dressing. Whaaat? Cabbage was wilted and the dressing so watery it wouldn't even cling to the cabbage. Sushi was on par, but I was so crabby about the previous screw-ups that I was just not in the mood, especially watching one of the sushi chefs CHOMPING ON GUM THE ENTIRE TIME! And to top it all off I was charged for everything without regard to my complaints. (Trust me, I was not there for a free meal, but really?) We actually left a plate full of uneaten sushi (which is usually blasphemous, in my opinion) because we just couldn't choke down anymore. Hands down the best sushi restaurant in Southern Idaho. The Sushi is always very fresh and they have many options to chose from. They also offer all you can eat sushi for a very low price of $18.99 for dinner and $13.99 for lunch which means it is the best place to eat for quantity and quality sushi. The staff are also incredibly friendly despite what other reviews have said. They generally do not want to bother you while you are eating, but will come over as seen as you are getting close to finished with your rolls to see if you would like to order more. The owner is really friendly and if you are a regular she starts to call you by name which creates a very comfortable eating environment. My family and I have eaten here many times. We have always liked the people who are managing this business and their servers are always friendly and efficient. I read a few bad reviews before I posted this. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have to strongly disagree with the negativity. I have always been treated well. One time, the music was too loud and they were very kind about adjusting the volume. Their food has always tasted great and their drink cups are huge... so you usually don't even need a refill. My husband is extremely picky when it comes to food and he loves Sushi Ya. It's a very nice place to eat lunch or dinner. I would say on the down side that the prices are kinda high so I cannot eat there as much as I'd like to and when I have a few sushi rolls left they will not allow me to take them home if I'm eating "the all you can eat". INSIDER TIPS: - Go for lunch during the week (not weekends) and do AYCE (all you can eat) for $13.99 - If you go on the weekend/evening it will be $18.99, but you get more options. I think there are plenty of options for the lunch AYCE, so I rarely go nights/weekends. - The owner lady who is usually there looks intimidating, but she's actually really sweet. - Up at the check out counter, there are MORE ORDER CARDS to mark if you want to order more rolls (or if you're splitting the check). GO GRAB A FEW EXTRAS IF YOU NEED THEM. They don't mind, and it takes two seconds. There's also extra pens up there. - Many times the staff will not want to disturb your table, so you have to flag them down when you're ready to order or when you need more drinks. But they always seems excited to help; I think they just don't want to interfere. What I ordered (don't judge, it was all-you-can-eat): - Hybrid Roll - New Orleans Roll - Hamachi Nigiri - Scallop Nigiri - Octopus Nigiri - Upside-down Shrimp Nigiri Overall the food was average to below average. It is definitely a quantity over quality type of place. One of the guys I was with said "you get what you pay for" and that is definitely true. With sushi, quality is what I want. I didn't get the feeling the fish was very fresh and the Hamachi was definitely nearing (possibly past) its best-if-used-by date. The only bright spot was the Hybrid Roll which was pretty good. The service was ok, but a little slow. The hostess was very friendly. None of the sushi chefs were Japanese, but, hey, we are in Idaho. What surprised me was how many people there were at this place. We went at 12:30pm and had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated. I don't understand why this place is packed and the other sushi place in town is usually empty. The other place has much better food. The only thing I can conclude is that people are not willing to pay for quality sushi. I would not recommend this place to anyone. This was one of our stopovers during last year's road trip towards Vancouver, BC. The sushi all-you-can was terrific! Can't remember the price, but for what we ate--rolled sushi, nigiri sushi, hand-rolled sushi--we made out like bandits. One reviewer commented about not getting good service at the table. We sat the sushi bar--and our server was attentive, and made sure that the sushis kept coming until we quit. So, perhaps this would have accounted for the difference in the service. I vaguely remember the lady owner. If she was copping a major attitude, I'm glad I was utterly oblivious to it, not when my belly was completely full and satisfied from bingeing on so much sushi LOL Twin Falls surprised me--we stayed at this very nice Shilo Inn. Just gorgeous room, with a wonderful walk-in shower. The room was a nice size. Pretty close to where we were staying in was a bridge, that if I recall collectly, was sitting atop a geologically important structure. You gotta be there to know what I'm talking about. Anyway, back to the sushi--we were happy with it. And wouldn't mind making this place a standard stopover for us during another road trip to the Northwest. read more

What's this ... a veritable sushi oasis in rural southern Idaho? Oh yes! While no one will confuse this with sushi on the Ginza, it is still pretty darn good sushi. This is especially true since it's all-you-can-eat for only $18.85 (dinner) or $13.95 (lunch). Who would have thought you could find sushi like this in a place like Twin Falls? They have a surprisingly wide variety of choices. I strongly recommend the Godzilla, Rainbow, Mama, and Barney Rubble rolls. These are always good choices and I get these every time. The nigiri sushi is always fresh tasting and meaty. The best thing about this place is that it's an inexpensive way to get introduced to a lot of different types of sushi.
