Some additional Combo Plates and a Student Special.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm. I've written this review twice already today and keep doing something wrong. And each time it will get shorter! They opened a few minutes late, at 11:30. No hours posted on the building or on Yelp. When I looked through the front window, I could see the screen door in the back. That told me that the back door was open and someone was probably inside. We ordered two combinations and a Won Ton Soup. The Won Top Soup was very good. I would order it again. The combos were okay but we were more interested in the Chow Mein and Fried Rice that we got. Both had "wok hay", a smokiness that reminds us of the food of days gone by. Do you remember eating in Chinese restaurants when dishes were served in stainless steel platters with pedestals? If we're in the area again, I'd want to order, Wor Won Ton, Beef Chow Mein, Shrimp Chow Mein, Prawns in Lobster Sauce, Chicken Fried Rice and Curry Chicken.

The menu you really have to zoom in to see the combination plates one through four

I think the food is excellent. As far as the lobby goes, it's drafty and it needs remodeling. The kitchen you can actually see into this kitchen, but I imagine this is what most Chinese kitchens look like. The man is always cooking and his wife takes orders, but they do charge one dollar charge for using a credit card.

I don't care what anyone says... this is some of the best take out Chinese food I've ever had. gonna keep coming back for more..!!

Kung pao ummm terrible flavor ! Where's the sauce

Horrible food. The orange chicken barely had any sauce on it, tasted terrible. Kung pao was totally off. I can make better Kung pao at home. Chow mein noodles only thing decent. Needs soy sauce on it, but ok. Not worth 40 bucks

A great place to take out. I would not recommend eating IN as the place is very small and not that well lit. But the food is exceptional.

Their won ton soup is my go to whenever I am feeling down. Their potstickers are homemade and fabulous. Portions are generous!

Shanghai Chinese Restaurant - Cream cheese wontons Pork fried rice

Each plate had its own, taste - The egg rolls were crisp on the outside and had a good filling. The sweet and sour pork had a crisp batter with a good flavor. We enjoyed several different items . The house rice was perhaps too mild. I asked the manager/ owner about her menu and how it was different from other Chinese restaurants. She offered that the food is based more on what is found in Shanghai. She commented the have spicier options we could ask about next time we came in. The Shanghai has a modest interior and is crowded in the cluster of restaurants at the corner of Walnut and Akers.

I really wanted to give them a better rating but the food missed the mark…read more It appears to be under new ownership and the portions are a lot smaller and the quality has gone down. This was our go-to for delicious and freshly prepared Chinese food but it's not the same anymore. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of free parking. The restaurant is clean but the one restroom could definitely use a deep, thorough cleaning. I ordered the #2 dinner combo $15.00, it consisted of --a cup of basic egg flower soup 3/5 --two deep fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce 4/5 --two deep fried shrimp (a bit greasy) 3/5 --one veggie egg roll (a bit greasy) 3/5 --chicken broccoli (very garlicky and flavorful) 5/5 --orange chicken (some of the pieces of chicken had a gamely flavor (yuck) and the chicken was not crispy; orange sauce coating the chicken was good 2/5 --chicken chow mein ( chicken and veggies were kinda nonexistent & it looked like they used spaghetti pasta rather than traditional chow mein noodles) 2/5 --pork fried rice was pretty good 5/5 Service was efficient and waitress was friendly. Unfortunately, I won't be back due to this experience.
