I won't lie. People said this place is good but in this teeny town I wasn't expecting much. Hands down, China House has some of the best Chinese food I have ever consumed in my 39.5 years of life. It is incredible. In particular, the mongolian beef. The spice was THERE. It has a good kick to it, but it had massive amounts of flavor. The beef was probably the most tender Chinese meat I have ever had. It melted in your mouth! I can't guarantee we will ever be back in branford, but if so, it's our first stop! The service was very disappointing. the lady that takes the order was very rude and disrespectful. my parents live in Branford. The staff was not the friendliest but you don't eat the atmosphere. We were the only ones in the restaurant and was told it would be 25 minutes for our order but received it in just over 14 minutes (yes I used a stopwatch). For the price, we felt our portion size was smaller then other China restaurants offer. We were also surprised to find that substituting lo mein instead of rice is a $3.00 up charge and a so-called large lo mein was $10.75. I ordered a dinner sized Entrée which was quite good but it could've had more sauce to make it not as dry. The portion size fit in a small container divided equally half rice half chicken which is the normal lunch size portion at most other Chinese restaurants. If I had known I would've ordered extra sauce although I'm sure it would've been another up charge. Only 2 other people came in to the restaurant to pick up to go orders while we were there. One customer stated they wished there were other options in the area. If you want to dine in there it is one table that seats 6. Overall we felt the quality of the food was good although a little pricey for the portion size. We received our food hot and freshly prepared in a reasonable amount of time. We drove a little over 30 miles one way to try this restaurant and although it was good, we might venture in a different direction next time. read more

Lunch hours are until 3pm daily. Stopped by on the way back to my cabin in Old Town and ordered hot and sour soup and lunch size chicken and broccoli to go. It took 15 minutes for me to get back to the cabin and the hot and sour soup was still steaming hot. Definitely the best hot and sour soup I've ever had! I was pretty full by the time I finished the soup, but I had some of the chicken and broccoli and it was great as well! read more

Disappointed in the service today at China House. We have loved the food there since they first opened. I have told anyone who has visited the area that it's the best Chinese food I've had and worth the visit. Today we decided to eat in (most of the time we get takeout), and the service given for dine in was not at all quality customer service oriented. I asked if someone would mind wiping the table down when we came in because it had some sticky stuff on it. She told me to pick another table. She was abrasive and thoughtless about the statement. Unfortunately, they all had sticky stuff so we decided to see what we could do about where we would sit. She did end up coming over and wiping one down. As we were leaving the same lady at the from desk (the owner) told me that she is not geared to dine in and that is why she couldn't accommodate us with a couple of plates we needed for the two kids with us. Before we left we asked if we could have two container lids to replace the two the littles used for plates. She told us she couldn't because they come in pairs and we would have to buy them for fifty cents each. Okay, I guess I could have pulled out the credit card and charged a dollar for two containers, but we had just dropped a hundred dollars to feed the family. Again, her attitude towards us, the customer, was not only poor customer service but also abrasive, uncooperative, and apathetic. Truly disappointing. If you plan to continue to use their service, I suggest to order take out. She does not want customers to dine in. She will not appreciate you, or the fact that you have chosen her establishment over others in the area. In the end we did what we needed to combine some of our dishes, and we wiped off one of the lids in order to take home our leftovers. read more

This Chinese restaurant is a hidden gem in this small town of Branford. The food is fresh and made to order. Hands down the best garlic chicken I have ever ate. Their garlic sauce is rich with a touch of heat and amazing garlic flavor combined with tender chicken and vegetables. Paired with steaming white rice it a winner for me! read more

Completely blown away by the flavors of the food!!! Let me begin by mentioning that we came into town very late at night. The Chinese family that owns the restaurant takes a huge amount of pride in ensuring their guests are given an ultimate in respect and fantastic food. They made certain that every morsel of our meal was up to spec. Every detail of it was the freshest I have EVER tasted. In forty five years of eating in hundreds of Chinese take out restaurants this is the one that all should take notice of. The fried rice was definitely not the usual cheap yellow rice one may find at other stores and the wonton soup appeared and tasted as though it were made within the hour. They have the best anti-Covid setup I've ever seen - plexiglass completely seals off the workers and the customers, with a safe transfer cube for the food. Employees all wear masks.
