We finally tried this place after living here for several months. I had my husband pick up take out on his way home, we live about 20 mins away and the food was still warm when he got home. It was fresh tasting and of food quality. We will try it again! The person who answered the phone when I ordered was quick to get us off the phone and didn't take our name, which maybe is normal. My friend and I got take-out from here and it was, overall, very good. Consider that this is Chinese-American or "NYC style" Chinese cuisine serving a small, rural, city. Expect the egg rolls, fried wontons, and a number of takes on battered and fried dishes like General Tso's chicken in general. The steamed dumplings are a stand-out and you can find healthy items on the menu, but they do the lion's share of their business on your standard Chinese-American dishes. The staff are very nice and I think may be related to the folks who have Sakura, the Japanese place next door, because you'll see them come and go between the restaurants some. Though I have my misgivings about Sakura, whomever is behind China Town seems to have things going in a good way. read more

Typical Chinese restaurant with everything you can get at any other typical Chinese restaurant...but residents of Live Oak know that the one thing they do better than anybody else in town is.....fried chicken wings. By far the best in town. No special sauce. No spicy seasoning. Just hot, crispy delicious whole wings fried up perfect every time. The seasoning they do use is possibly allspice. Given, it is the only Chinese restaurant in town. I tried the sweet and sour chicken and the steamed dumplings. I will say the steamed dumplings were awesome. However, my sweet and sour chicken was mushy. I don't like the pork in my rice, so I always just get the peas/carrots. The peas were hard and under cooked. Good quality Chinese food is hard to find in this small town and kudos to these owners as they try to run a successful business but they need to flavor the food better. This was my first time here. We did take-out. The prices are good. But not the food so much. Ordered pork chop suey, got pork w/vegetables in brown sauce and white rice. Also ordered the almond chicken and beef and vegetables. All the vegis where over cooked and drowning in sauce. Not very good.. I think I will be sticking to sushi. read more

On my list of pre-requisites for me to move into Live Oak was a good barber, a good Chinese food place and grocery shopping availability. It all came together and this place was integral to my decision making process. Tastes just like back home in NY. I find the portions to be at least adequate the taste is as I remember it back home and the place appears to be reasonably clean (which is not usual here in L.O. FL). The "staff" do the best they can in all matters, I assume. I do recommend giving it a try. read more
