Ate here on a Sunday at 12:30PM. Immediately seated, food was hot and plentiful (3 rows of hot and cold dishes), lots of variety for those picky eaters, attentive staff. It is dated but I ain't eating the walls or seating so whatever. Yay! Coke products! A couple of options for dessert, but I am not into sweets. Restrooms are big, clean and smell-free. Typical Chinese buffet. Nothing too good or too bad. I liked the Stir fry beans and coconut shrimp. The lo mein was oily and tasteless. The sugar donut had no sugar so it was just bits of fried dough. There was no ice cream - just the usual canned fruit, jello and sliced cake. I wish the staff would thoroughly wipe down the chairs, tables and utensils because everything was sticky. The buffet cost was not worth it. I'd have paid $13 for the meal but not more. read more

Family was craving Chinese food while in the North Shore so gave this place a shot. The place is located in a strip mall and runs about what you would expect from that situation. Inside is a little worn out but the food is hot and restocked quickly keeping most things fresh. My wife was excited to see sushi but it was not really that great. Some highlights were the Chicken Meatballs, Coconut Shrimp, and Peppered Steak. Ice cream is also available for dessert which makes the bang for your buck ratio better than just getting a stale cookie for dessert. When you get into the restaurant, you walk right into the dining room. Surprising lay out. The items were surprisingly spicy. Its Northern MN so I am shocked. Pros Come here for battered fried Americanized Chinese food. Cons Don't come for the service or the quality of authentic Chinese and you'll still leave full. Anyways, if you don't expect much.. but fast Chinese.. you picked the right place. I asked for Chili Oil and the server said she'd bring it. I finished my meal and she didn't remember. Oh well. My husband and I came during a weekday dinner. There was maybe a max of 15 people including waitstaff in the restaurant. So they weren't busy but they know their clientele which is that they serve Americans with big appetites for fried chicken wings, egg rolls and Americanized Chinese. Having frequented many Asian buffets in the Twin Cities over the past 30 years I can say with confidence that China King is very good...BUT, not for dinner! My daughter and I have been eating lunch here for several years and it's always busy, the service is great, and the food delicious. One night we happened to stop in for dinner. We were prepared for the higher cost, but dismayed by the reduced buffet selection - no soup or vegetables! Some of the things I normally get, like Mongolian beef and General Tso's chicken, were completely different and definitely not tastier. We never got our bill so we just went to the register to pay. The two older women behind the counter took our money without even looking at us or thanking us for coming in. They just kept talking to each other. Lunch is wonderful, though! read more

Only give one star because I have to. I will never step foot in this establishment again after tonight. We brought our family to your restaurant tonight for dinner on my birthday. My kids love your food and always eat so much. Tonight, we arrived at approximately 7:30 pm, 90 minutes before closing time. Their buffet table with entrees was almost completely empty. They did not bring any additional food out until I asked them at about 8:15, by which point I was too disgusted to even eat any more. The woman was extremely rude. The sales tax they charge is greater than that of the city of Duluth. We regularly bring our family there for dinner because there's something for everyone, but going forward, we'll be going elsewhere. read more

The food has consistently been cold since new management has taken over, but today's visit was the straw that broke the camel's back. My g/f and I went to China King Buffet at 2:30 during the lunch menu time. we had already received our bill while we were eating, when there was a changeover to the dinner menu. So I took one plate with 6 fried shrimp, and one of the workers brings me over a new bill with the dinner price! I told her I was not going to pay the dinner price and the manager said OK, but when I went to pay, the manager took my card and lunch price ticket but ran the dinner price , which I noticed just before I signed the bill. Definitely one of the worst buffets I have taken students to. Upcharged on drinks and tip because groups of 5 or more get a 10% upcharge. The only food that was decent was the fried potatoes. So far 3 from our group complained of stomach problems. There was a table just outside the buffet where they were putting together cream cheese wonton. All ingredients were just on the table in the open while we dined (45 minutes). Need to get a health official there Pronto. read more

If there is a negative 1 I would have to it placed at that. This is the only buffet in this area and even it the rating was poorer we decided to give it a try ourselves. Food: the food here is awful. The bananas have been set out for so long it was Browning at the edges. The pot stickers had a foul smell to it like something died and decomposed in it. Everything was tasteless and super greasy, more than the usual on Chinese food on general. Cleanliness: there were dirty buckets with a dirty milky color water in it along the wall by the kitchen. The floor was sticky, the soles of my puma shows sticks Everytime I try to lift my feet while walking. The spoons and forks were scratched and visibly unclean. I've had images of huge rats crawling all over this place when all is quiet at night.. ewwww Service: never been treated so poorly. We did not receive any utensils until we asked for it. No refills on beverages. After seeing other customers getting up to refill their own cups we just refilled our own too. No one came to the table to ask how everyone was doing. We did not receive the bill at all. I had to go to the lady and said we were done. She asked where we sat at. After I gave her the money she counted the money and said it wasn't enough. I told her that she didn't even give me the bill. She then showed me the bill and I paid for it. I did not leave any tip money. I didn't let the kids leave any money either. 95% of the time I always leave a nice tip but this time I actually wanted them to pay me for even trying their restruant. This place is gross. Very good, typical buffet, lots of selection, went there for the first time last evening on our first night of our week trip here in Duluth, good was very good, like I said typical So to the problem it was so hot and humid with storms coming so it was like 94* outside thought it would be so nice to get inside and enjoy the food in the cool.... wrong air was broke had fans out but 98* inside, miserable but stayed to eat anyway. The meal was okay. After, a woman publicly humiliated me, and the staff laughed along with her as she left.

Stopped in about 7 p.m. and the place was almost empty. Should've turned around and left. We were seated and then ignored. Food was plentiful, but, all over the board. We had our three grandchildren from Seattle for two hours Thursday afternoon and unfortunately came to China king because they voted for Chinese buffet. It was not even 3:30, and the place was nearly empty. The server pretty much barked at us to sit and it felt like she demanded our drink orders before we even sat down. She wanted ages on the kids and they answered their true ages of 6,10, and 11. Now, I will be truthful, most of my annoyance is with their prices, but the food, although plentiful, was monotonous and really nothing special. The language barrier was awkward and they were very loud. The kids were quizzed by another employee about their ages. They told the truth and they were extremely well behaved. The rest of us were well behaved, and polite. I did question the cost of the kids meals and, other than the 6 year old, we were charged full price. At $12.95 each, and $6.99 for the 6 year old, it was a very costly lunch for dinner prices. There are no prices posted for kids anywhere,but there are lots of postings about the recent price increase. I asked at the counter about their kids pricing, the girl reluctantly pulled her cell phone from her ear and just said "full price!" The 3 stars are for the food; I would give 1 star for the welcoming attitude and just the way they acted towards us. read more

The cleanest most organized Chinese buffet I have been to in the midwest. The buffet has a very nice variety of Asian dishes including a few options of vegetarians. There is veggie sushi! The salad bar is a nice option for loading on more vegetables in my rice noodles. You can finish off your meal with self serve ice cream too! At one time this was a pretty decent buffet spot with good value for the money. Two of us had lunch today and were both majorly disappointed with the decline in quality. The majority of the dishes not only didn't look the same, they tasted GROSS. Had to flag down a very unhappy looking female server for a drink refill who finally returned and slammed it on the table. This is the best Chinese food in the Duluth/Superior area. My family and I travel 20 from cloquet to eat here. There's just no other great buffet around! It's quiet. The owners are nice. The food is great and well maintained. And the prices are very reasonable. read more
