My husband and I dined here for the first time last night and I have to say the food here was amazing!! The wonton soup, orange peel chicken, the eggplant, chow fun, and jasmine tea were all so flavorful. Not only that the service here was fantastic. Kudos to the one server that was juggling multiple tables at once, it's not an easy job however he was positive, friendly and upbeat. This place is horrible on many levels. Seems like they rarely ever clean the place, restaurant is very dirty and dirty smelly bathrooms. Food service is horrible wait time was about over 45 minutes and the owner Patrick is extremely rude I've definitely met a lot more friendlier owners. The food isn't even good either no taste bland and extremely covered in grease. If you want to have a short life quick heart attack and clog your arteries then this is the place to go. read more

We ordered a door dash from here. When we received our order, the bag was filled with juice from a container with our food, and it was dripping everywhere. It was Christmas night and it was raining, the poor drive. It wasn't his fault. We were still able to enjoy our version of Christmas dinner. The food was tasty and flavorful. The amount was perfect for 4 people. I was unhappy about the broken container juice dripped on my carpet. My original choice for dinner they were closed. I ordered a lunch special and I ordered almond chicken, but it really should've been called bell pepper with almond and chicken. I ordered white meat. There was only a few pieces of chicken in there, but the majority of the entrée was bell peppers. I'm used to the old Mandarin Palace before they were taken over when you ordered almond chicken. You got slices of chicken with almonds with a little cucumber or the old wings that had the perfect almond chicken, that used to be here on Hollister Avenue years ago . I understand restaurants are trying to make money, but when you're skimping on an entrée and filling it up with vegetables instead of chicken, that's a no return unhappy patron that will not recommend your restaurant. read more

The food just doesn't have good taste or texture. The sauces taste lime they are out of a bottle, bland or not good. The breading is mealy. The soups are bland. Unfortunately it's the only game in town. The quality of the meat and veggies is good but ruined by the blandness or not great taste of the prep. Service is good. read more

China King has been our "go-to" place when driving down to LA from Buellton. It is open until 9 and they don't rush us out when we get there at 8:30. The people are always friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. But, it's also the food that brings us back (note that even when the food is awesome, if the people are not, we likely would not return time after time). The place is not large, but they do not overcrowd the space with too many tables. So, there is room for them to bring the food quickly (yes. the service and time from ordering to receiving food has never been an issue). This past time, we ordered the cashew chicken, sub gum with pan fried noodles, and chow san shien after veggie egg rolls and tea. All tasted good, but have to say that the cashew chicken had the most flavor. As others have noted, the serving size is decent, if not generous. The food is very tasty and made fresh. The service isn't the quickest--because the food is made fresh! The decor is clean--the place is small--and there is a large, round table that seats a big family (usually Asian-looking which says something!) Parking is always available b/c the lot serves a number of businesses. The easiest way to locate it is to look for the only bowling alley in town at the far end of the lot. (No you won't hear noises from there.) read more

We went on a little overnight trip to Solvang and on our way back to LA we looked for a place to have Chinese food. This place came up and we decided to stop. It was a good pick. The portions were good for the price, and the gentleman that was there was really nice. It was small but quaint. The gentleman took out order and within a few minutes we had our food and was made to order. The gentleman was attentive and courteous. This was a good find on our way back to LA. I felt like at was at home genuinely the ambiance was just that great! The tea was just perfect for the meal! I would go more often if I lived closer. Personally all the food was great! A very nice and cozy restaurant tucked in a plaza. The place was very well maintained with beautiful lighting, fine artwork, and sets up a great atmosphere. They have two menus, one is Americanized Chinese food and the other is the traditional one which I urge you to choose your food from. We ordered some pork and chive pot stickers, braised pork ribs cooked in vinegar, three cup chicken, and also some chicken chow mein. They also served us some pickled cucumbers, and roasted salted peanuts as accompaniments. They were delectable. All the dishes were impeccably cooked and the flavor was on point. I highly recommend this place and it's worth a stop while traveling up north or south on US-101 after or before you hit the city of Santa Barbara. ordered chicken chow mein, the chicken was a weird color and taste like actual dog food, the following day after consumption, signs of a food born illness was in full swing. so today, the third day after having the spoiled chicken, I looked up what makes chicken taste like dog food, turns out it's most likely from cooking the chicken and refrigerating it, then letting it spoil well for who knows how long in the fridg, either that or your fridge isn't keeping a cold environment! thanks for the sickness while I was out here in santa Barbara working an extreamly physical and demanding job. p.s this is the first time I was served noodle that taste burned. read more

We found this place pretty disappointing. The ratings are so high! So our expectations were too! The soup was maybe the worst Tom Yum we have ever had. Little to no flavor and everything in it was cut so large. Had to take bites out of pieces of chicken -- too big for my mouth. The chow mein was fine, but was basically just noodles. Not enough vegetables. Maybe had 3 pieces of broccoli in there? Service was fine, but we ordered for pick up so I really wouldn't know. Ugh. Bummer. read more

My friend and I went in for dinner and had a very tasty meal. This could become my go-to Chinese place. Service was a bit funny, they sent dishes out to the dining room to the wrong tables - a few times, but no one was in a hurry - it was a Sunday so no one complained. Do get the scallion pancakes for appetizer - a very humble sounding dish but the sauce that comes with it is outstanding - 10 . I had a dish I've never tried called Chow Fun - a Cantonese dish with the flat noodles and chicken was my choice of meat. A challenge to eat with chopsticks but I managed. My friend got Kung Pao chicken. We both commented on how tender the chicken was in both dishes. I saved some of the sauce from the scallion pancakes for the Chow Fun dish and it was a fabulous improvisational addition. read more

After we were seated I notice several diners were regular and knew the staff and each other. One can find "real" Chinese dishes , along with Americanized favorites. Potstickers! One order has 8 large, beautiful potstickers. Order a bunch, bring them home, gently reheat in oven and serve on a pretty platter with the sauce and claim them as your own for your holiday party. I actually confess and tell everyone where I get them. ;D They now have bbq spareribs. 4 big ribs per order. Special fried rice, walnut shrimp, I could go on and on. Friendly, fast and fabulous. Been coming for years and hope they will be around for a lot more years. Oh! Ask for the fried wontons. Big/thick and great for scooping up your favorite poke (which you will have to buy elsewhere, or make it yourself). Or throw them in top of your Chinese Chicken Salad. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while but just never have had the right circumstances. Well getting home from a weekend long soccer tournament filled with pizza, cheeseburgers and burritos, I still didn't have the energy to shop or cook, and desperately wanted SOMETHING different yet something convenient. Here was the chance! I waffled back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I'd truly give it 3.49 if I could. The food was generally pretty tasty, but there wasn't any dish that really wowed me. We got ginger beef, general Tao chicken, orange peel chicken, fried rice and pork chow fun as well as an order of pot stickers. It was ready on time at pickup (25 minutes after ordering). Whole order was over $100 though which just seemed like ALOT for what we got. My slight dings were the pot sticker skins were really thick and the ginger beef had some bits that were super heavy on the ginger. The one dish that was disappointing was the chicken fried rice. That was bland (which did seem to be a theme amongst other yelp critics). I will definitely still give it another shot, and hope for a slightly better experience, and I know the few things I would and would not try again. Hopefully when I find that perfect moment on a Friday night that calls for phoning a Chinese for a home delivery, I will have a chance to update this review with a few more pluses and not as many minuses. read more
