We decided to stop in China King for a sitdown meal on a recent road trip and are happy we did. There's a good amount of seating both tables and booths. We sat down and a waitress came to us for our drink orders and our food order. She was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the meal, refilling drinks, and asking if we needed anything. Our food came out quickly. It was hot. It was fresh and it tasted good. Two people in our family ordered the general Tao and we really liked the sauce. Quite a let down... was passing by during a long trip and was excited to get some takeout for when we got to the hotel. Lo mein was really truly awful... shrimp fried rice was not great either. I even lived in NY, NY, Dallas, SF, and San Diego just to prove my point. I have not found a better sushi, Chinese restaurant than this quaint family run gem in Vandalia, Il. And they are busy! Whatever you order it will be the best you've ever had. And the owner makes the sushi and is so proud of its appearance because it's beautiful to look at. He was trained by a master, so he's creative and appearance matters. One little tip, if you like your Vandalia Roll or one of his specialties compliment him. Sesame chicken had a gooey sugary sauce that made it clucking awful. The Hunan shrimp's vegetables were al dente. Unfortunately, the sauce was inedible. The shrimp were cooked to death. The wonton soup broth was bland. We attempted to dunk the chicken and shrimp into the broth to cleanse the proteins. The gelatinous substances held fast. The wonton wrappers were perfect. The wonton filling had expected pork flavor. The crab Rangoon was the star - crisp, perfectly fried, and oozing with cream cheese. The white rice had a rancid flavor. How can a Chinese restaurant ruin white rice? The yellow colored fried rice lacked any sign of having been in a wok. The food is all served in disposable plastic to go containers. Perhaps, the idea behind the lack of authentic place settings and chopsticks is to avoid any appearance that this place serves Chinese food. The atmosphere and interior decor were uninviting. The food was dry and old the heat lamps did not even heat the food up at all it was extremely dirty and I am surprised the health department even allows them to operate I got there when they just opened and the food looked like it had been there for three days and the service was terrible and the restroom was nasty! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Friday while driving cross-country. Both the service and the food were great. We ordered the crab Rangoon and hot and sour soup to start and then veggie lo mein and veggie egg fu yung as entrees (only $23 for all!). The crab rangoon were gigantic and the portions of everything were larger than expected. The ingredients were fresh and the food was very flavorful and delicious. And we had enough left over for another meal on the road. We will definitely stop here again the next time were traveling on I-70. Hope to try some of the sushi next time (they have a huge variety of rolls on the menu). Especially for a strip mall Chinese joint right off the highway, this place was amazing. read more

Worst entree ever! Ordered habatchi chicken. It was breaded and deep fried. Tough and over cooked. I asked for extra sauce and was charged 5.00$ for it. Are you kidding me?!?! Habatchi chicken isnt breaded or deep fried. Should not be on their menu. I think they use that same breaded chicken for all the chicken dishes. I took it back and got different answers from both people working the front. She refunded me 13 bucks. Any respectable restaurant would have offered me a full refund of $26 read more

I miss this place! The BEST crab rangoon I have ever had. Big, creamy, affordable and delicious. Their sushi is good considering the availability in that area. I always got their garlic chicken. One of the only places in the area that offers online ordering as well which made it super easy to get for lunch during work. Its been a good while since I've been here, but the service was never spectacular. Just the basic drink order, food order, and payment. No frills or conversation or smiles. Lunch was super cheap! Love love love this place! Where else can you get fresh made to order food, for a family of 4, for under $20?! Nowhere! If you have only been to Chinese buffets before you are really missing out! Awesome food Crab Rangoon fresh was excellent. No freeze isle special on that...We got Lo Main Shrimp and CA Sha pork... both were great big enough I didn't finish the pork. Which was sliced loin with green pepper pea pods, mini corn, and broccoli. Only thing we tried and didn't like was the egg roll it was clearly a freezer isle special but it's ok Crab Rangoon took the blue ribbon. read more
