In a word: tepid. Most everything on the buffet was lukewarm, bordering on cold. Even when traffic picked up during the 6pm "dinner rush", the food came out of the kitchen barely warm. Most of the restaurant pans were scraped bare when we made out first pass at the buffet line - on the second visit, the offerings remained the same, expect for a massive pile of undercooked green beans. The "Friday/Saturday Only" Seafood Buffet Special consisted of tiny cocktail-sized shrimp in a variety of brown and white sauces and a lone offering of steamed mussels in a cornstarchy-tasting white sauce. There was one picked-over Twice Cooked Pork dish, but nothing with beef on the entire buffet. While the Peanut Chicken didn't really have any peanut flavor, the slices of white breast meat were perfectly fried, crispy and light. Wok'ed versions of the chicken were also found with broccoli, sautéed onions and a tasty Chicken & Mushroom offering. If you read these reviews about cold old food and think to yourself, "surely if I go there at 11:15 am, right when they open, everything will be fresh and hot." Don't kid yourself. It won't be. It will be small lukewarm or cold piles of previously cooked food. They won't come check on you or clear plates or replenish your water, and if you ask for some, it will be warm water. Never brought a check, we had to go up to ask for one and pay. There were only two dishes that were pretty hot and fresh. Sweet n sour chicken and spring rolls. The soups were also fairly warm. All other chicken dishes were tiny gnarly bits of battered chicken, mostly very soggy, or very hard. All the guests in our party kept mentioning how old and cool the food was. They wondered if the food was put out cold on the buffet and intended to warm up there. Chen's buffet down the block was much much better and even King's was a better Chinese option as only a couple of their dishes were lukewarm. This place is not very good. There are several good review for China Palace on Google, so I was willing to try it, but they must be outdated. The dinner buffet had several dishes. The fried rice was crusty and dry, and the two shrimp dishes were old. They had a little bit of a bad smell and they tasted awful. The texture was off, too. The lo mein was OK, but it was not fresh. Most of the chicken was not fresh, so it had a weird flavor. The egg drop soup was too thick and it lacked any flavor. The spring rolls were fresh and tasted fine. There's a cooler full of individual ice cream servings for dessert that's cute, haha. The staff was a little rude, the ambiance was lacking (I don't really mind, but some people are curious), and the prices for the buffet would be fine if the food wasn't so bad (about $6-$7). Stopped by to grab the lunch buffet before a movie. The food was tepid and the egg rolls and crab rangoon tasted stale....not real crispy like you would expect. The buffet had mostly chicken and seafood dishes. The taste was good. The dishes that had veggies in it had a lot of veggies which was nice and they were cooked well, not soft and mushy like they had been cooked all day long. read more

Stopped in here on our way from Florida to Iowa. We ordered from the menu and left the buffet alone. We found the food to be adequate, but not fantastic. The service was likewise. The egg drop soup looked like dish water with something (eggs?) in it. Not overly tasty. I called in and ordered cashew chicken as a lunch special. It was the worse shit I've ever tasted. I think the kitchen help didn't want to prepare the chicken in the right way, so they took some Gen. Tso's chicken and stirred up some cashews in it. I'll never darken their door again. read more

Man I dont know what all the negetive talk is about on most of these reveiws!!?? I'm from NC and this is the best Chinese delivery ive ever had!! I travel the country, so I'm pretty sure I know what good Chinese food is. Especially delivery, they didn't just grab it off the buffet!!! They fixed every bit of my food fresh!!! Im tickled shitless with this place!!! Oh yeah. And the service was absolutely excellent from when I called it in til the driver brought it to my room!! I normally love this resteraunt. Tonight, the food was not fit for dog food. Granted it was an hour before the buffet was to close, and they offered to refill any items we wanted, but the food they brought out was uneatable. Every item they refilled tasted like they mixed in water and put it on the steam table. The only thi g de ent was the ice cream my girlfriend had. Literally, between 3 people, we couldnt have eaten a small plate of food. Then she said she gave me a 20% discount. Really, 20% off when they had nothing that could be eaten. Out of frustration I accepted half off. I used to love going there, expecially for crawfish, which is usually the best I have had anywhere. I will not be back....I have made better food passed out drunk, and most certainly would not have charged for what crap they presented. I primarily use the delivery service, and have never been disappointed. The food is always hot and the portions are quite generous. Between my friends and myself, we've tried just about everything on the menu, but have our favorites. For three adults with healthy appetites, we normally come in around $30. The young lady who takes the phone orders is always very kind, and would even chat and laugh with me. I have not been here in some time but my parents suggested it so we gave it a try. The buffett was not stocked, the food was cold and the soup was both old and cold. On top if that the booths sit you too far back from the table and the carpet was wet and sticky!! Off my list. It is getting gard to fin a decent place to eat out here in Kirksville. I've heard many times that fat is flavor. If that's true then this place is an exception to the rule because the food is 50% grease with about 25% of the flavor of traditional Chinese food. Also beware, the ice cream bar is less than sanitary. I've seen kids lick the scoops and put them back on more than one occasion. read more

This restaurant is kind of okay. There's nothing special about tthe food. If you order to go, you'll get a lot of food, but there's a lot of vegetables so don't expect to see a lot of meat. This is one of the few eateries in Kirksville so the waiters are not very friendly. read more
