My husband and I ate at this restaurant with our 2 grandkids. The help was very rude. Acted as though they could care less if we got any service at all (which with their treatment and behavior) that would be preferable. The "hostess" never smiled, didn't seat us or come by to try and strike a conversation. When my husband paid the ticket, the waiter never made eye contact or tried to have a conversation. Other negatives about the restaurant: the floor around the food bars were slick, they had paper notes taped to the sneeze guards informing customer "if you take the food..eat the food". MENU: Typical Americanized Chinese stuff, mixed with a few American junk-food items. The dessert section is the same factory-made pastries and canned fruits they serve in these places everywhere. Overall, the selection is not extensive, but what they have is decent, for what it is, especially at the price point. FOOD QUALITY: They make food fresh, and don't cook too much at once and then leave it sitting for a long time. Most of the items are factory made (like the potstickers and the fried nuggets that go in the various dishes), but the vegetables are fresh. MENU FAVORITES: If it's important to you to have vegetables with your meal, you'll find more here than you might expect. The menu might change from time to time, but the last time I went they had stir-fried green beans, which I thought were the highlight of the meal. Plenty of broccoli, cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and other veggies mixed in various dishes that you can single out if you want to. MENU FAILS: My problem with these buffets is that the general public has access to the food, and there's always some knuckleheads doing the things knuckleheads do, like using the spoon from the sweet and sour chicken in the fried rice, getting syrup all over the place; or dropping the tongs at the dessert bar directly on top of the pastries, ruining three or four of them in the process. It's like they resent that other people exist in the world at all, so they go out of their way to be ratchet. FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE: Friendly staff. As attentive as they can be under the circumstances. KITCHEN SERVICE: They're doing the best they can with what they have. COMPETITION: If you value quantity over quality, come here. During my mid-afternoon visit staff checked on food trays but seldom serviced them. Dried chicken was severely overcooked, sushi rolls were looking a bit old, and baked fish was long past its prime. However, there was enough variety and the quality was largely acceptable. I like buffets because I can usually get veggies. Still, I was surprised to find cooked cabbage under the heat lamps. Few items were labeled. General Tso's Chicken, which was labeled, didn't note that it's a spicy hot dish. The uninitiated might have gotten a tongue-tingling surprise...as I did with some unlabeled shrimp. It wasn't overly spicy for me but might have been for someone with a pepper sensitivity. Good price for what they have. Love the hibachi but didn't know it existed until recently. I've gone more knowing that. One time I went they had dumplings which were incredible. We went on a Sunday-great selection of expensive items like coconut shrimp, were there and great meat varietys. There was a great selection of desserts. Wait staff brought us multiple refills of drinks. There was great food variety for everyone's liking. There was beef, chicken, egg rolls, wontons, shrimp, brocolli, rolls, be sure you go hungry. Now is it cheap, no, but chineese buffet with shrimp and beef rarely are bc these are more expensive items. I think we pd. around $30ish for 2 adults with tip-but again Sunday lunch buffet are usually more expensive, bc they bring out more expensive items like seafood is always more $. Now was it a massive buffet in size, no, but Kirksville is a smaller size town, but again food choices for everyone. read more

We absolutely love the staff and the food. The owner is outstanding. Not only is the owner, staff and food outstanding, the owner also stands up for her long standing customers when others want to try and start a fight in her establishment. I thank her for standing up to the bullies and making them understand that she wont stand for their behaviour. Thank you King's Buffet for being open again. King's is what you'd expect from an average Chinese buffet. If they have deals the host will still try to charge you full price. I would recommend going to any of the other three Chinese places in town. All of them are more authentic and affordable than King's. read more

The last time we ate here my daughter was sick after coming out of the restaurant. I thought things tasted a little odd, but wasn't concerned until then. They've had a fair amount of bad inspections. We haven't eaten there since. Now we never will. Very reliable friends found maggots in their food. Then were made to pay! Never again. read more

I tried the lunch buffet with a friend. There's a good variety of dishes, and everything looked and tasted fairly fresh. Food was regularly refilled while we were there. The food was not great, but not bad, either. I enjoyed the crab rangoon and spring rolls. The lo mein was good, and the spicy chicken (not sure what exactly they called it) wasn't bad. The desserts weren't very good, but I'm not really surprised. I would suggest having some of the cut fresh fruit or fried donut holes rather than the mini cakes and cookies. Not sure why all the negative reviews. First people need to understand that the wait staff are not rude. If one had ever been to a big city such as San Francisco, Los Angeles...etc. and ate at a Chinese restaurant, when the wait staff spots you at the door he will rudely ask "how many" with no smile, and lead you to a table. When your food comes, most wait staff just slam the food on your table and leave. It is not their custom to check back in a few minutes and ask "how is everything? Is there anything else I can get you?" If you need something you flag them down and ask for it, then most likely they'll just slam it down the table and walk away. And the poster who think the owner ignored his request / comment, it might have been a language barrier. Most foreigners answer with a nod and a smile when they have no clue what you're saying. I had lunch here during the week. Decent selection. Everything I tried was decent to very good. The fried wonton (the thing stuffed with cream cheese) was a bit of disappointment. The wrapper was too big, too thick, and too much cream cheese. Should have been a little more delicate tasting. The fried wonton strips (by the soup, acts like saltine crackers where you sprinkle on top of your soup) was stale. The mushroom cap with cream cheese on top then topped with melted cheese was a pleasant surprise. Never had such thing before. I had most of the hot food items. Did not have anything from the salad bar. I also had an ice cream cone with swirl ice cream and that was good. The ladies room was clean, almost unusual for a Chinese restaurant. It is difficult for the restaurant to control the loose kids. Is he supposed to confront the parents or the kids? If he confronts the parents he just pissed the parents off. If he did nothing then he pissed the other patrons off. Perhaps the patrons should confront the irresponsible parents? I arrived for lunch yesterday. The man staffing the register and front counter finally came out from the office and asked what do I need. I was one for lunch. He sat me at a dirty table. I had the waiter clean it. The buffet was adequate given the price. However, unsupervised children were having their way with the food and utensils. No staff or employee intervened. Upon completion, I had to settle my bill with the same rude man at the counter. He was now loud as he rejected my American Express screaming we don't accept those cards. We were here during the holiday season - the night before Christmas - and they were busy but not too full. The buffet is a good spread with a fair number options even for the vegetarians among us, which in the mid-west can be a challenge. The food was average - not great, but not awful, with the noodles probably the stand out. My in laws, who eat meat, enjoyed it more than we did and some of their options seemed pretty good. We go here on friday & saturday nights so the crab legs are plentiful,and other foods are hot and pans are full constantly...I enjoy the peel n eat shrimp as well as traditonal chinese fare...I agree with the other reviewer on the serving girls...they do look depressed all the time!I doubt they speak much English though...they rarely talk.. I eat here often as its nice to spend around 20 bucks for two people and come out totally full!=) read more

Most Chinese buffets are mediocre at best. This place goes above and beyond to make it possibly the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. If your plate appears too full, the owner will chew you out over it. The food is room temperature at best and all of it was greasy. Do yourself a favor and go to a Hardee's and get food poisoning. I ordered over the phone, and could actually semi understand the girl! That's a surprise because my order is usually wrong when I phone into Chinese restaurants. When I got there the owner was on the phone the whole time he rang me up for my order, and the only thing he said to me was the order total which I could barely understand. He also comes into my place of work and tries to steal so that was a MAJOR turn off from this place!
