Seeking an alternative taste in this college town, I ordered takeout from a Chinese place on the road leading to the highway. Their menu suggests that they used to offer more fake meat style vegetarian dishes but have switched to vegetables and more conventional tofu, which is fine by me. It was a decent-sized menu selection. The flavors were basic, heavy on garlic and on the sweeter and saltier side. The portion size was quite large and I saved and ended up freezing a bit of it because it was so much. Their you xiang tofu was the sweetest dish and not quite my preference, but having a potato and onion dish to balance it out with some savory notes was helpful.. Overall, the food was not what you'd want in a more urban area, but basic Chinese takeout here is not nothing. read more

Wow! I'm not from this area but I'm attending the WV state fair. I thought stopping by the local Chinese food place would expedite my eating experience. WRONG! I ordered a few dishes including wings. Almost $100 worth. As I stood waiting and multiple people that ordered after me received their orders left so they could experience the live music show I stood patiently. Finally I had enough and confronted the woman who seemed to be in charge. She proceeded to tell me she was "tired of my bullshit" and offered to give me a refund. I agreed. She said I needed my receipt, no one ever game me one, so she denied my refund. The manager of this place is incompetent. She blamed being busy on the wait. ITS THE FAIR! HOW ARE YOU NOT READY FOR THR FAIR CROWD? !I just wanted my food. Finally after 35 min and an argument I received most of my order (with an attitude) They shorted me an order of general tso's chicken. The buffet is very limited. All chicken dishes were extremely dry and very poorly sauced. The green beans were a salt bomb. The restaurant itself was very warm and uncomfortable. The service was fine. We paid over $100 for our family of 5 and not one of us finished our first plate. read more

The food was soooo good! I had sweet and sour chicken, lo mein, and general tso chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was perfectly crunchy on the outside. It is a Buffett restaurant. Okay, maybe I'm nostalgic because it's my home town, but this is my favorite Chinese buffet ever. Small selection and it has the same stuff year after year when I come back to Lewisburg, but that's why I like it. It's very American style Chinese food with all your basic stuff, but for me it's comfort food. I like the coconut chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, general tso's chicken. After a year gap due to COVID we headed back to the Outer Banks and made our usual overnight stop at Lewisburg. We did not want to venture far from the hotel so picked up carryout at China Palace. We have eaten here once before and decided it was OK enough to return. Chinese sounded good to us after 10 hours of driving. China Palace is dealing with social distancing just fine. You can dine in or carryout from the menu or even from the buffet. We took a look at the buffet and decided we wanted to order specific things from the menu. I ordered Yu Shin Chicken, extra spicy and Ms T ordered Chicken with Broccoli. We had one with white rice and one with fried rice. The orders were huge we took more than half with us in our cooler when we departed the next day. China Palace' food is pretty bland. Due to a misunderstanding, I received Szechuan Chicken instead of Yu Shin. This was understandable since we were talking through masks. That was not a big deal. They did manage to get a little spicy heat in the dish which was nice. Neither of the dishes had much flavor. I don't really know what is missing, soy sauce, sesame oil, other flavors. The fried rice does not have much else fried in it. It is really just a little dark colored. We ate it and it filled us up. The leftovers were fully utilized when we reached our destination. We bought the ingredients needed to make good fried rice; celery, water chestnuts, cashews, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil and peas. It turned out very good. We blended the other two dishes together and added more broccoli. I ate mine with sambal ookek. It was kind of do it yourself Chinese and was definitely better as leftovers. Three stars is a little strong for China Palace, but I think it is better than two so I am rounding up. read more

The parking lot was a challenge. Weird vibe there, but not in a bad way. We went for lunch and just did up the Buffett. The Staff was polite, and General Tso's Chicken was good. Don't listen to Nina. I actually liked the rest of the things I got there too. The coconut pork was so good I want to use a curse word to describe it. Great Standard Chinese food, with a few local spins. The Rangoon were good, the food was refreshed quickly and kept fresh. There were some downsides, but nothing that actually is important though. I normally have 5 go-to items at a Chinese Buffett and this place not only had all five but nailed them. Item one: The Green Beans. Fresh, not rubber, seasoned well and not oily. Item Two: Egg Rolls, Good size, not too big where the skin is tough and not burnt to make the hard, just right. Item Three: Sesame Chicken, not over sauced, not too sweet, not overdone, tender and juicy. Item four: Beef and Broccoli. The broccoli had gotten that Buffett feel, but honestly I don't think it's possible for that not to happen. and the last item: Soda, you need that in this setting. It was ok. I've been going here for years but I am so disappointed in it even. It is so dirty. The ceiling in the dining room over the back buffet bar was covered in mold and and piece of it over where u walk to bathroom. The walls are filthy. And the little sign on the table was discusting.Twos and a child ad it was forty dollars w tip. And the food is not that good. The owner sits there watching you when you are at the bar like you are doing something wrong. With that attitude and quality it definitely isn't worth what u pay. Well, I wouldn't call it a *palace*. There were employees taking a cigarette break on the stoop when I walked in. And a little girl whining and whimpering beside the cashier throughout my entire meal. However, overall, probably fair food and experience for the under-$10 all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. The food was overcooked. The wontons in the wonton soup were just about mush. The chicken for the sweet-n-sour chicken was dry. The flavors were decent. There was plenty of variety. I enjoyed the cream puffs, albeit chewy, and chocolate pudding for desert. Service was for seating, drinks, and busing and was pleasant and reasonably attentive. Sorry I can't even consider giving a good review. The food lacks seasoning and flavor. I should of known it wasn't going to be any good when I entered the establishment. There was not any aromas of food being cooked like other places I've eaten The Asian woman at the register was so rude and had a attitude that she could careless it you ate there. Chinese buffets are not known for their quality nor authenticity in general, but this one really seemed to suffer. While fairly busy, the food on the buffet in general didn't seem to be turning over very quickly: things either were apparently untouched and looked old and dried out or they were otherwise simply gone. What I could though scrap up from the buffet was very very salty: like, even more than you'd expect for a Chinese buffet. Also, the interior was rather run-down and simply seemed to have seen better days. The sign out front promised free wifi, too, and yes they had wifi but once you connected, it would drop in a minute or less. You could re-connect, but then it happened again . . . and again . . . and again. I just feel things are all around in sorry shape up at the China Palace. That said, every time I drove by it, there were quite a few cars in the lot, so it's hard to tell what's really up: it appears someone likes it alright. read more
