Took my 8 yr old granddaughter there this evening. I should have just tore up $32 and put it in the trash. The small noodles was cold a had a greasy film on them. Mongolian beef was all soupy nothing was good about any of it but the price continues to rise. I will not be going back there again. It really went down hill when after the lady sold it. All thou being the only Chinese restaurant in the area, I think they could and should be a lot better. I ate here around noon and they were simi busy. The service was ok, not to complain about. The food was not hot or fresh. The cheese wontons were cold, chicken dumplings were tough, and the mussels needed some spice or seasoning on them. I think I will drive out of the area next time I get a taste for Chinese. read more

Nope! Buffet is small, bare minimum in containers, soups were jellied on top. Service is non existent. When I asked if more was to be brought out the waitress said something to the lady at the cash register and they laughed. no help. $20+ for a solo patron and this isn't fine dining. Yes their food is good the noodles needs to be less dry they and too have.a delivery service it would be great not unless they don't think could handle the extra orders.They need to. rethink they would make more money. So many people have commented for delivery on door dash. read more

Sad to say since new owners took over in Spring of 2023, food is no where near or even as tasteful of the original menu before the take over.. We have tried 3 times now and we won't be going back, we travel from WV to Covington Va. to eat there at least 7 times a month. We will travel to Clifton Forge and try the restaurant that is listed there..that is an additional 25 minutes from Covington, but we will give our review if it is worth the trip again.. read more

Absolutely terrible! The chicken is frozen preformed and was so overcooked or it sat on the buffet table all day. I couldn't even cut it with a knife! I ordered the coconut chicken, 2 sweet and sour chicken combos, house lo mein, and boneless bbq ribs. The rice and lo mein were okay, the ribs were dry to the point of being crunchy. Over $50 for a special meal and it's was horrible. Second try here and the first time was just as bad, but I thought I'd give it a fair chance and try it again. My friend Ryan and I stopped here before soccer one day and my opinions were mixed of this restaurant, to be honest. There is no doubt they try to provide a good experience for a very fair price, but the quality of the food was mixed. Some dishes were alright and some very lackluster while others were simply too greasy. To be fair, we got there at an odd time of the day around four in the afternoon. The buffet is pretty extensive and diverse but with rather typical chinese buffet standards. The egg rolls were fine, the stir fry dishes not quite up to par and the lo mein noodles were a bit lumpy and stuck together as if they had been sitting around for too long. The same was true of some wontons. The amount of food for the price however was no doubt a good deal. My advice would be, as is true to most buffets, try to get there at peak hours when things have just been set out. Catching them between the lunch and dinner hours probably contributed to the fact the food wasn't quite the best. read more

My boyfriend and I love coming here! Highly recommend the black pepper chicken. Vegetables always taste super fresh. You can get a combination dinner that comes with the meal, rice, an egg roll and a fountain drink for like $8! I've never had a bad meal here. So communication is a big issue here! I ate in for the lunch buffet which was not bad by any means! Hot food, all the options continually replenished. Other than the waitress who was pretty aggressive when yelling from across the restaurant to "pick a seat" eating in is not really the issue as long as you get the buffet. No the concern is take out. Being that I needed to bring food home i politely informed the waitress that i needed to place a to go order so it would be ready by the time i was done eating. The waitress told me "yea one minute" and proceeded on to take care of other tables. Being this was a buffet I figured she would've eventually come back and taken my to go order. After I went up, got my food and was almost done eating my friend suggested I should just walk up to the counter and place the order there so that it would be ready by the time I was ready to leave. After listening to the cashier argue with another customer on the phone about there being no specials since it was the weekend I asked if I could just circle the numbers of the items I wanted to make things go smoother they assured me that was fine so I placed my order, and I went back to sit down while it was being prepared. When I came back up to pay I was not given an itemized receipt. They gave me a random total, and I gave them my card. I asked about the five items I had ordered and they reassured me everything was there and even held of the paper I had circled. I didn't bother to check because I assumed everything was included. When I got to my next location we were missing two items and there was an item in the bag that I did not order so I'm not really sure what I paid for. I attempted to call back to speak to somebody about the missing items, but could not get through. Moral of the story...use the website to order online to ensure you actually get what you order. read more

This is THE best Chinese restaurant in the area. Their buffet is H-U-G-E for a town of this size. They have a very wide selection of entrees. It would be nice if it were cheaper, but, hey, you get what you pay for. Dinner buffet cost around $9-10 if I recall correctly. Lunch buffet is cheaper. They had an American-style breakfast buffet ... not sure whether they still do, but I heard it was good. read more

Don't let the fact that the China House is located in a strip mall near a Wal-Mart fool you. The proprietors, Hoi and Jo Jo have been in business here since the late 1990's. They are incredibly hospitable and friendly, as are their staff. As a vegetarian myself, they are more than willing to modify any of the dishes on their expansive menu to accommodate. Ginger Scallion Tofu, Black Pepper Tofu... Crispy Orange Tofu... YUM! Moo Shoo Vegetable... smoky, sweet and delicious! I know this sounds crazy, but even their steamed white rice is succulent and mildly sweet... unlike the dry, flavorless type of white rice I've had at other restaurants. As with all Chinese cuisine, freshness is crucial to the texture and flavor, so do yourself a favor and order from the menu! I'm not the target audience for the Buffet, but I've enjoyed it many times in the past. A good selection of appetizers and soups, a nice selection of main course dishes (including a really tasty curried rice noodle dish) and a satisfying selection of desserts. I would highly recommend The China House to anyone who enjoys Chinese food. read more

Decent for a Chinese buffet. We went for lunch and it was $7.49 for adults and $5.99 for kids. Under 3 was free. Everything was cooked well, no issues with undercooked food as another reviewer had mentioned. Three buffet tables, pretty well stocked and seemed fresh. Lots of options. Some under seasoned foods, but some well seasoned options too. More of an American-style Chinese. And yes, they do have the Chinese doughnuts. Service was pleasant and attentive. Atmosphere was well-lit and clean. One bathroom available that was clean enough but the walls and door were dingy. read more

What a disappointment. Ok I will admit I am jaded with most foods but I don't expect too much from chinese buffets. I got something and it ensured I will never go back. The dumpling. I am pretty sure it was chicken and it was raw. Like, look at me I have never seen heat in my life type raw. I bit into it and the gross squeeze of Mosh as I bit through the past made me look. It was a raw mush meat. So I grabbed the second I took. The same. That ended my meal. The unfortunate thing is there is only the buffet. You can't order from a menu. I've been there twice. Each time, there were the same selections. Could you not vary it a little. The Vegetable egg foo yung, had no gravy to put over it. Some of the selections, especially the noodles were cool, not warm. Some of the dishes weren't identified. The price, yes was a bit high. As a vegetarian there is not much options of food in this small town other than food lion but China House has a decent selection of veggie options, their tofu dishes are amazing in my opinion, my husband is not a vegetarian and he loves this place especially their lemon chicken or sweet and sour chicken or fried rice, we order here everytime we visit my parents, I just wish they could offer tofu or any vegetarian dishes up in the buffet too, I usually have to order from the menu but that's okay no biggy. read more
