We were driving back from the Palm Springs area and were too tired to go home & cook. We are still looking for a decent Chinese restaurant that we can go to regularly-we are on #3 and no dice so far. We have only 2 to go. One was closed today which limited our choice,so, we stopped at China Palace. We had passed it a few times and it looked old but had a nice appearance. You enter and see tasteful holiday decorations and nice (and not as old as the exterior) ambiance with authentic decor. We ordered Crab wontons but they don't have them. The menu online says they have those and lots of other things they don't have anymore. I put photos of the menu on Yelp so people can know what they have now. It looks like they removed a few pages out of the menu so they may have had more things before. So we ordered egg rolls. They were small and pretty good. We didn't care for the dipping sauce-it tasted like sugar diluted with a couple drops of food coloring. We ordered the combination dinners- 3 (BBQ pork slices, fried shrimp, pork fried rice and chicken chop suey) and D (egg roll, pork fried rice and pepper steak)and although the quantity was plentiful, the flavor was not so much. The BBQ pork slices actually were tender and had good flavor. The pork fried rice was ok-there was a slight flavor but it was rice with a few pieces of pork and green onions sprinkled on it. Nothing else. The Chicken Chop Suey had a good flavor but just bean sprouts. Nothing else. I actually had to look under the sprouts for chicken and found maybe 3-4 pieces the size of dimes. It had flavor so next time I would have to ask if they would put chicken in it. We were going to take one of the egg rolls and the 2 fried shrimp home but hubs snared one before it went in the box with leftovers. LOL! He said it was ok. So, I guess we are still looking for our place to go regularly for Chinese food. We've heard there are great restaurants in Mexicali, Mexico (which is only ~12 miles away) but it's a bit too far for during the week. We hope our last chance place is 'the one'. The restaurants we've tried may do some dishes better than the ones we ordered. It could just be that we have to find what those dishes are. read more

China Palace has been the ONLY Chinese restaurant my family has eaten at in the last several decades. The food is awesome, from Cantonese rice and the soups to their sizzling dishes to Mongolian Beef , the Chinese Combination or Chicken with Pea Pods. The lunch combos are varied, delicious and filling. The chefs are amazing and the waiters are efficient plus very attentive. Jorge in particular is a fabulous waiter. I highly recommend it for an authentic Chinese meal beautifully prepared and served well. read more

But it is hard to imagine El Centro producing a better Chinese restaurant than China Palace. $60 bought all we could eat of well-prepared food, pleasantly presented, a tip and enough takeaway for a lunch. It was very late at night and we were looking for some restaurant. I usually avoid chinese restaurants due too much oil and MSG but my friend said this restaurant has some vegetarian options, so we decided to try it. It was not easy to identify at night this restaurant because the entire complex has shops and restaurants with their names written mostly in chinese language. China palace in English is written in small size. We ordered the following items Kung Pao tofu -- fried tofu. It was crispy on the outside and peanuts and chillies complemented the dish well. Vegetable fried rice -- Fried rice also had celery in it. Unlike other chinese restaurants I visited, none of the items had too much oil. Every ingredient in the dishes were well balanced. I might visit this restaurant again if I go to milpitas again. They take only cash..! read more

Disappointed. Took an hour for delivery, the "Pu Pu Platter" I ordered wasn't as described. It's unfortunately one of the few places that delivers to the hotel I am at. The shrimp tasted off, the ribs were dried out and tasteless. The BBQ pork was fatty and left an odd aftertaste. $30 lesson learned. The pork fried rice was edible at least! read more

By far, one of my favorite resturants in the Valley. The customer service is always great with almost all waiters. They do check on you unlike many of the other chinese places in the Valley, it's very rare when they don't check up on you to see if you need anything. This is one of those places you could easily take someone out to from out of town. The portions are great and always filling for me. The food is great too! My family always orders Chow Mein, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Tofu & Vegetables. If you want anything such as egg omitted from the fried rice, they will do it for you if you mention it at the time of the order. The restaurant naturally does not use MSG in any of there dishes, (addictive salt used in chinese food that has negative health benefits). One of the few chinese places in the Valley to do so. The taste of the food is just very unique and different from any other chinese place I have ever been too, in a very good way of course! The restaurant is never packed or crowded in the times that I have gone during lunch so it is reasonably very quiet in here, great for anyone looking for a quiet romantic evening. All in All, I really don't have any complaints about this place, I love it! Very fancy inside as well with a cool fish aquarium! Great costumer service, great food, great portions, can't get any better! The pricey dishes are well worth it! Good Chinese places are always super hard to find, and I thought that this one was up to par. I don't live in the area, but I was ordering for one of my offices. It was a very large order (for 15 people), and the amount of food was perfect. I ordered shrimp fried rice, shrimp with vegetables, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, egg drop soup. I placed the order the night before and they called in the morning to confirm. They open at 11am in the morning and I needed it made/delivered to the office by noon. They were on time and polite. Omg, this review is especially for the roast partridge dish (spelled Patridge on the menu, haha). When we had this it was my first time trying partridge and oh my goodness, was it yummy. It was so tasty and juicy, what chicken wishes it was. The food here is straight up old school cantonese americanized style chinese food, the kind I grew up on and am always looking for. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the mandarin & szechuan places that are more popular nowadays, but I hanker for what I remember in my childhood as chinese food, it's comforting. Their egg foo yung is straight up old school delicious too, as were the bbq spare ribs and the won tons & sweet and sour. The SS sauce was clearly homemade, more of an orange hue than the bottled red stuff and with a definite ginger kick. And the waiters were really nice, especially Mario - what a total sweetie. The hubs and I can't wait to get back out to the desert again just so we can try other things here. read more

At there yesterday afternoon, 8/13. The female hostess (not the waiter) acted like she was being bothered. I ordered the won ton soup bowl. The broth tasted like dish water. It was terrible. When I told the hostess she directed me to a young girl behind the counter who said she would tell the manager (I doubt it). The vegetables also appear to be just frozen and not fresh. Place is a mess. Would give it ZERO stars if I could. They have also "remodeled" inside and taken out the booths. It looks like a dirty high school cafeteria now. Really disappointed as it used to have some atmosphere and good food. Won't be going back. read more

A cockroach crawled down the wall at the table we were sitting at. Enough said...but I will continue regardless. It was a medium sized roach and it was making its way down when we spotted it. Onto the food: the chow mein noodles lacked taste, were not the known orange color, and could have used some more chicken. We did not receive one of the items that was ordered, and were charged for it. The service was good, independent to the overall unsatisfactory taste of the food. Been eating at this place for nearly three decades. I proudly take out of town guests there. Other than San Francisco and Manhattan, few places give you that authentic Chinese food flavor. Their combination (Cantonese?) Chow Mein is the plate to order! It's chockful of veggies and has generous portions and cuts of every meat (chicken, beef, Chinese sausage) and shrimp. Their Chicken rice noodles are a treat, as is the deliciously tangy sesame chicken (not found in the menu, by the way!). The seafood combination has something for everyone: abalone, squid, shrimp, tilapia etc. stir fried in vegetables. Yummy! How can I not mention their fried rice, and the ever popular and spicy Mongolian beef and chicken? They also carry a fine selection beers: Shin Tao, Mexican and domestic, a fine complement to their dishes. And the best part of all are their prices! Caution. If you order to go or for home delivery, the portions are reduced by half. Recommendation: Eat the generous portions on site and take the leftovers home. It's like getting free take out! read more

This place is great because they deliver. I feel that the orange chicken may be healthier as you get to add the amount of orange sauce to your chicken. Also it is breaded lightly. This place had a great atmosphere when I went in for take out. It was a little late but there were several large groups hanging out having a great time. The staff is friendly, and the food came out quick enough. The inside is a bit dirty, straw wrappers on the floors and the walls looked like they could use a fresh coat of paint 3 years ago. I saw several trays of food pass by me while waiting, and the portions are huge, as was the flat screen TV that had Sports Center on! I stuck with a simple sweet and sour chicken, but when I got back to my hotel it was a pineapple/carrot/ginger chicken. Pretty good, but mostly cuts of dark meat. Overall, this place is decent, and at least trilingual. I've had better Chinese food but you are in el Centro, what do you expect? read more

I have never tried the Chinese food here. What they are locally famous for are their incredible steaks, which I can vouch for from 3 visits. Disclaimer: I have not been here since 2010.
