I liked the buffet style layout - very much enjoyed their spare ribs and General Tso chicken. Also, the egg rolls were pretty tasty (nice & crisp). The atmosphere leaves a little something to be desired. While it is true that they have plenty of seating, the noise factor is a problem. So dont go there if you have a headache, or are about to get one. They have such good variety here, that most people will be able to find something they like. With that there is also fruit for the health nuts. And just what is the price of admission to such a grand banquet of fried delight? Well, here lies the chines proverb " Wittle money, Big Pwate of fwood" Yes , yes, this buffet is quit the bargain , for only 9.62 of your hard American dollars, all this and more is waiting for you at China Star. Though Drinks are not included with this price, its well worth the investment, for those of you that are ether to cheap or to healthy to afford this, there's always the option of going just for the water. My wife and I brought our 2 grandchildren to China Star on New Years Eve shortly after 9 pm. After reading their advertisement about their specials they were having throughout the holidays. I thought they may have been closed because of the time and we could not go any earlier because my wife had to work. The food was cold, their lobster special was supposed to be prepared 2 ways, (only one was served cold) they did not even have noodles prepared. The cook to order grill was shut down. The server was pleasant and tried to accommodate by asking if there was something I would like she would have them make it. Between the 4 of us not 1 plate of food was eaten and for $75.00 on a buffets. I guess it's money well spent not never to eat try and here again. I'm from California where we have a lot of diversity in people and in food. My mom came to visit me and she asked if I wanted to try it out and I was up for it but expected to be disappointed. We went in and I looked around and came back to my table with a plate full of food and I actually liked it. It wasn't the best Chinese food I've ever tried but the best in Minot for sure. read more

However, most of the dishes were pretty below average and the desserts seemed store bought. Beef was chewy in beef and broccoli.. Ended up not eating any of it. Shrimp was way too soft... Didn't taste right in Kung Pao shrimp. Not much flavor in either dishes. Crab Rangoon was good. Prices were good and you get a lot of food but not worth it overall. read more

came here yesterday ! the service was wonderful as soon as we walked in me an my family where seated they even grabbed the booster seat for my niece an brought it to the table for us I can't remember the waitress name but she brought a whole pitcher of soda to the table we didn't even have to keep asking for a refill. This is my first time at the China Star. The food was very good. I came right at noon so things were fresh and stocked. The traditional Chinese buffet items were in the line as well as some other items that are a rarity at some places. The staff was friendly and courteous. The building was clean. The only problem I encountered was when I walked into the bathroom to wash up, I almost lost my lunch. The smell was terrible and I had to keep my nose plugged and leave ASAP. So the word of the day is vomit...pretty much the worst place I've eaten at since arriving here two weeks ago. As I'm writing this I have been running into the bathroom multiply times. And all that talk about stir fry must be old because the only thing Mongolian was the beef with onions. Maybe it should be call onions with beef, portioning was terrible. You might like the food that day, but you will not like it when it makes a house call the next day. Then there is the fact that everything is dirty, dusty, and the overall cleanliness was not a priority here. Well I had to try this place, but knew I wouldn't be impressed, and I wasn't. Tons of options but the food was mediocre at best. Food was not hot, despite it looking like they had just brought it out. Some food tasted old/stale. I even had the Mongolian BBQ. I was seriously afraid to get food poisoning so I was taking some extra precautions. Dessert options were probably your best choice since the looked like they were purchased. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but there was a MOUSE running through the dining room. At the end of the day, this is a take-out Chinese place. This isn't a five star restaurant and you aren't playing five star prices. If you judge a dog for its ability to do a cats job you might find that they aren't up to par. I think that for what it is, this restaurant deserves five stars. This restaurant is one of the worst ones I've been to. First of all they have a very low score from the health department, which is no surprise to me. Lots of their buffet food is cold, and not all of it is Asian...in fact, not much is at all. Their tables and bathrooms are dirty, and I'm glad I've never been in the kitchen.
