    Beef chow ho fun.
    Crystal-Lynn B.

Whenever I am missing good Chinese flavors, I like to stop by Chinatown Eatery. I personally like to go here to eat their ham fried rice, as it a comfort dish for me. Their fried rice is simple and not filled with unnecessary vegetables. I recently tried their beef chow ho fun (flat rice noodles with beef) and it was delicious. The beef was tender and the noodles had a nice flavor to them. I also had some fried bread that was also good. Service can be quick considering that there isn't a lot of staff. I would recommend going here if you are looking to eat authentic Chinese cuisine.

Great food and pretty quick delivery! The place felt comfortable and I will definitely be going again!

Normally if I go to a really good Chinese restaurant, I ignore things like decor and service in exchange for really good Chinese food. China Town Eatery seems to be the best of both worlds- decent dim sum and noodle soup options, as well as cleanliness, friendliness, and fast service! Mandarin, Cantonese, and English are spoken by the staff, so you'll likely be able to find someone and order in the language you are most comfortable with. We had our family group of four plus one toddler, and were able to find seating and had a baby seat given to us quickly. The menu is quite large, with dim sum offerings, a large bakery selection that includes char su baos and bolo baos, noodle soups, and dishes for family-style eating. The one area of improvement I see is that there was a lack of knowledge about vegan options as well as an overall shortage of options. Which, for an authentic Chinese eatery with a bakery, is fairly common and mostly a flaw in the overall cuisine. My dad asked about vegetarian options and we were pointed to the vegetable menu, which wasn't quite the same and had items with oyster sauce on them. I did find a tofu noodle soup, though.

This Chinese dive is rusty, cramped, dated with slow service. Saturday morning and there was one server/cashier working. I ordered the parsley beef balls, Sui mai and bean curd skin roll. Bean curd rolls were small sized (half the size of regular restaurants) bland mostly mushroom (where's the meat?!?) Sui mai was more bearable. Why they would use imagination roe I don't understand (tapioca pearls with orange food coloring) Something tells me this is not house made. After waiting 30 mins they brought me the wrong order ... beef balls which were also flavorless and chewy. OVERALL the slowest dum sum service...if you're in the mood for Chinese takeout quality food (this would be an insult to Chinese takeout) this your place.

Well you def can find some of the variety of the dim sums here!it usually open early and enjoy some soy milk for breakfast if you dont want have tea

Excellent, made to order (mostly) dim sum as opposed to those huge dim sum halls where the food comes out in food carts. Everything was super tasty, yet not overly salty. The chive dumplings were extra large and extra crispy on the outside. Likewise the turnip cakes. When you get them from the usual dim sum cart, most of the dim sum has been steamed to death and is usually mushy. Service was quick and efficient when we were here (Friday 1:00, 3 tables). The one waitress was running around though. So I can see service slowing down significantly if there were more full tables. Decor is typical of these hole in the wall, mom and pop, places. And also a shiny layer of grease over most surfaces lol. But that's not what you come here for, right? You come here for great food at very reasonable prices. And this place delivers that in spades. It's really as good as some of the best dim sum we've had in NYC, if not better. The bathroom was clean. A bonus! As a minor complaint: I showed the waitress the Yelp coupon for BOGO bun, and she just said NO and waved it away lol. No big deal. We didn't come here expecting any free food. PS: we saw them bring out their freshly baked pineapple buns, cha siu bao, etc, and we had to buy a few to go. They turned out to be absolutely delicious, even 3 hours later when we were back in our hotel.

China Town Eatery is a mixed experience: The dim sum was really quite wonderful, but unfortunately the service made it difficult to enjoy. To be fair, they give warning that it'll be slow, posting that they have one waiter, one chef and one wok, and they do live up to their notice. That said, it might be worth it considering the great flavors and textures they offer. NOT a fast eating experience, but certainly worth the trip. Note that food comes out when it's ready and not all at once, so you may find yourself reminding the waiter about the rest of your order - rest assured they know, they just are working at their own pace.

We have been wanting to explore and try our new places since we are in a new area. And every time that we do, it's always a hit and miss. This place was definitely a miss for us as we walked in we were so hungry and the place was about 75% full. There was a waitress that greeted us and sat us down. I didn't know what to do, and it was weird because they didn't have a section in the menu for chicken. There was a rice casserole section, beef, seafood and vegetable section. We didn't know what to order as we were so hungry. I decided to play safe and order mapu tofu since that's what we always order in Chinese restaurants and we decided to try out the rice casserole dish. I tried out the mushroom and chicken casserole. We ordered at 6:35pm and our food came to us at 7:10pm. Yes it did take a long time for our food to arrive and while we waited over half an hour for our food to arrive, we decided to order the pineapple buns as an appetizer since we were hella hungry. After I ordered, the bread took about 10 minutes to arrive, I honestly dont know why this place loves to take their sweet time to deliver their food. The pineapple bun was really good and reminded us of the pineapple bread in Hong Kong. And when our food finally came to us, the rice casserole came in a hot bowl, and it was basically meat on top of rice with soy sauce. The rice was pretty dry, which is understandable because of how they cooked this dish. I'm assuming they just cooked the rice from the actual bowl and steam it really hot until the rice inside the bowl cooked. Beware, if you are really hungry do not order the rice casserole as it will take a long time for it to arrive to you plus while you have the food in front of you, it is really hot and takes a long time to cool down. I ate mapu tofu with my rice casserole, and this was the first time that I have experience that the mapu tofu did not come with ground beef/pork or meat of anytime, it was just tofu, sauce and some garnish...no meat on it whatsoever, plus the taste of the sauce on the mapu tofu wasn't that good as it was really bland. We spent more than an hour at this place with more than half of our time waiting for our food. I love chinese food but I wouldn't recommend this place. Try to go somewhere else.

Preserved egg and ground pork tofu congee
    Aileen C.

We had to come here after we found that they had dim sum for dinner! I don't know why that's not a thing everywhere. Everything seemed to be made freshly and the congee came out scalding hot. After a strong start with shrimp rice rolls, congee and sauteed bean sprouts, I was underwhelmed by the har gow, bean curd rolls, and chicken feet. Still very good for the price and the fact that we can get it at 6 pm so will definitely return when in town!

Sales duck egg and pork confer. It's so good I recommend it

I got to put my order in pretty quickly and it wasn't long till my shu mai and haw gar came out. My fried shrimp dumplings and taro cake came shortly after. I was in heaven! The dim sum here is so good! I had everything to myself since my husband doesn't really eat Chinese food. The fried shrimp dumplings are my favorite! They are crispy. The shrimp in it middle is savory and chewy. The sweet sauce it is paired with is a match made in heaven! The taro cake was hot and charry from the wok. The shu mai and haw gar were good but you can tell they were previously heated and just sitting in the warmer. They could have been hotter and the exterior could have been softer. Even though they were perfect, they were still fabulous. The service isn't the best and after my first initial visit I knew to keep my expectations low. I come here for the food and it delivers every time! I ate everything and didn't have an ounce of guilt for doing so. We don't have dim sum like this in Boise so I made sure I enjoyed and savored every bite! I look forward to coming back to SLC in a few months cause I know this joint will be on my to go list when I'm here again.

We also got the mixed meat & veggie pot which was not good. 80% of the "meat" was fried tofu, the rest of it was very overcooked, and it had no real flavor.
