    Springy noodles

Great new authentic dumpling spot inside of the Chinatown shopping center. The restaurant is tiny but that's for a good reason as each dumpling is painstakingly made by hand and it's reflected in the flavor and quality. You order at the counter, take your number and grab your own utensils, dipping sauce and water. The hardest part is waiting for each order, which came out surprisingly fast. Despite coming two hours after opening they were already out of a few items. The soup dumplings were delicious, full of broth and juicy. The cucumbers provided a nice crunch and was a refreshing side dish. The braised pork noodles were good with nice springy noodles but I would've preferred more meat. The handmade pork wonton was my favorite in a spicy sauce and paper thin wrapper. The pork with green onion fried dumplings came out last and had a nice crunch without being too doughy. I just wish I had more room to try more items! Definitely a must try and a great addition to SLC's Chinatown.

My friend told me about this place. It was very busy! But completely worth it. You order at the counter and they tell you what table to go to. That part was really nice they told you where to sit. I don't think we would have found a spot to sit if they didn't tell you where. We ordered a couple items just to sample a little bit of everything. I liked everything we ordered. I will be back to try a couple other things. I went around 5 and some of the items were sold out already. They did have a sauce making station which was amazing to me. I could see if you don't know what to mix it could end up with you having a bad dipping sauce. It was small inside but really clean. They had like 15 tables max.

They were fresh out of the fried dumplings when we came right at the beginning of the day, so we had to switch to the pan fried bao and the Xiao long bao which is their recommendation. The service was quick and we didn't have to wait too long to get our food. It feels a bit pricey to get 6 xiao long bao for 10.99. The skin and soup were both delicious but the meat inside was just alright. The texture of the meat felt a bit off. The pan fried dumplings were very juicy and the fried bottom gave it a nice crunch. I definitely preferred the pan fried dumplings over the xiao long bao. Though the pan fried baos felt a bit doughy on the bottom. CAUTION: If it's your first time having these kind of dumplings, please be careful when eating any of the dumplings as the soup inside is very hot so if you're eating them fresh, it may help to poke a small hole in the top to prevent the soup from squirting out on your face. Overall it's great to see new soup dumpling restaurants here in Utah but unless I'm really in the mood for dumplings, it's not going to be my first choice.

I ordered the Xiao Long Bao (A1) and the handmade pan fried bao (B1). I really wanted the fried dumplings but was told it wasn't available. I had high hopes, but I don't think I'll be back unless I'm REALLY craving dumplings on the spot. Space: There are 10 tables and the space feels fairly open. There's also a window where you can watch them make the dumplings like din tai fung Food: Xiao Long Bao: The skin was thin and the soup was flavorful. However the meat's texture and overall flavor were lacking and I didn't notice any green onions. Handmade Pan Fried Bao: The bao took about 15 minutes to arrive. The bottom had a great initial crisp but the top of the bao was quite soggy even when eaten right away. The bottom layer was also thick and a bit too doughy (see picture)

Stopped at the Chinatown Mall today. There was a lot diffferent Chinese businesses, mostly eateries and a huge Asian supermarket. We spotted this little eatery that served dumplings so stopped in to try. You order at hr small counter and find a table. The food is brought out to you. Self serve on the water, bowls and chopsticks. We ordered a bunch of things to try - prices were about $7 range for steamed dumplings and steamed buns. -Xiao long bao ( soup dumplings ) were very good! The wrappers were thin and tender-not chewy and the soup and stuffing inside was generous and tasty. -Pork and green onion dumplings. The wrapper was thicker and the stuffing (although a lot) was too salty for our taste. -Pork and shrimp dumplings-those were much better, good flavor -Beef noodles-very good. It's a single person serving. The noodles had a nice chew and wasn't over sauced. Added a little vinegar and it was perfect. -Fried pork buns was the highlight! We had these before at other places and these were soooo good. Not greasy like how others can be and the bread was so light. The bottom was slightly crispy and not overly fried. The stuffing to bun ratio was perfect. This was our favorite. In fact we got another order! The staff was super nice too. Only thing lacking was hot tea on the menu. Thumbs up for this place!

Pork with Shrimp XLB and Spicy Pork Wontons

The food came out fairly quick. Got an order of their XLB and "spicy" wontons. The XLB had a hearty and chunky piece of meat inside with a lot of broth. I put the spicy in quotes because it was not spicy at all. Definitely easily edible for 99% of the palette of Utahns. The sauces and utensils are on a car next to the register that you can mix yourself. It's probably the closest dupe we'll get to a Din Tai Fung here in SLC so I'll round up to a 5/5!

This place is really starting to pick up, especially in the mornings on weekends. It's popular among all ethnicities. They have a simple limited menu but do all items well. The xiao long bao comes in just 3 flavors. Fresh, good taste, quickly steamed and to the table in just a few short minutes. I usually get the braised pork noodles to go, it's flavorful and there's more ground pork on the bottom of the dish, so mix it up. Only a few cold drinks on offer. It's a great place for snack or a full meal.

Located inside the Chinatown market is Hometown Dumpling, though there is a parking lot, parking is a little difficult especially during rush hour. The inside is nice and clean, and you can even put together your own sauce! I went on a Tuesday at lunch and the food came out pretty quickly. The people who work here are also very kind and patient. I got the cucumber salad and the pork and green onion Xiaolongbao it was delicious. The Xiaolongbao was filled with soup, it was the farthest from dry. The cucumber salad was very refreshing as well. Definitely a place to visit!

Searching for some good dim sum restaurants and this is the first one I've gone to since moving to Utah from California and unfortunately disappointed. Biggest disappointments: A1 & B1 A1: Pork w/ Green Onion Soup Bao was underwhelming and missing the usual impact of flavor from the soup. The soup tastes similar to when you make a broth using a chicken bouillon cube vs actually simmering a chicken carcass. It's wasn't terrible, but that's just what I thought when I first tasted it. B1: Pan fried bao wasn't really fried on the bottom but burnt, and same thing about the soup from the soup baos. Okay Appetizers: Cucumber salad + wontons. Cucumbers were a little soggy and wontons fell apart too easily, but had decent flavors. Good picks: Steamed + custard bao. I know I gave a pretty low rating but I'll probably be coming back again, because I'm hoping that maybe I just came at a bad time and that they were super busy.

Service: fast and efficient. Order at the desk and they will bring out the food to you. You have to get your own utensils, sauces, and water. Ambiance: basic nothing amazing. It's you get in and get out. Food: I think the wontons was the best. The wrapping was thing and was flavorful. Soup dumplings: mushroom one was more flavorful. Braised pork noodles. Good texture. Simple in flavor. Cucumber salad was nice and refreshing to break out the flavors.

excellent XLB and homemade dumplings. it is order 1st and they'll bring out your food instead of a cheque after your meal. very efficient system. quick self serve sauce station and clean place. it's not a very big store, you'll have to wait for a table if you hit busy hour. will be back to try other items!

Saw this place as it was being built and knew I had to try it once it opened! Hometown dumplings is a new dumpling spot that just opened in Chinatown specializing in xiao long baos. The workers seem to be the same ones from Yunnan ten second rice noodle. Is this the best xiao long bao I've ever had? No. But is it pretty dang good for the price? YES! Personally if you just want a quick fix for your XLB craving, this place will hit the spot! The place is fast casual style so you order first then just sit wherever you want. If you want a more "premium" experience, I would go to Zhu Ting Jing, but otherwise this place is plenty good.

Probably the best soup dumplings I've had in slc. Lots of other types of dumplings too, but not much in the way of other main dishes (other than one noodle dish they have).

The look of the restaurant inside has changed a few times. when I was there last there was a casual seating area at the back of the restaurant. There were people there waiting for takeout orders. I really enjoyed the great chow mein with the beef. Next time I might try it with chicken or pork because the beef was a little hard to chew for my liking. The noodles tasted delicious and flavorful. I always have to order the cold cucumber salad. It is a great accompaniment to any dish. I added the peanuts to the cucumbers because I really like them together so if you order the cucumbers, they will not come with peanuts. It is a strange request, but they accommodated me with no problem. They had a case at the front of the restaurant with grapes and strawberries, skewered and coated in a crunchy sugary coating. It was a little bit messy, but I did not mind because it tasted so good. The strawberries were super sweet, fresh and juicy with a thin, sweet crunchy shell. I will try the grapes next time. Thank you for the delicious food

We ordered the Pork Potstickers, Marinated Cucumbers, and Dan Dan Noodles as was recommended by our server. The pork potstickers were super dense and the wrapper was tough, unlike most other potstickers I've had. The marinated cucumbers had a great texture, but were very salty. Our favorite were the Dan Dan Noodles. The sauce was flavorful and seasoned well. The only issue was how difficult it was to eat the huge pieces of bok choy. Overall, I'd definitely come back here for drinks and the dan dan noodles, but the other items did not live up to how I thought they'd be.

Beef rolls is the sophisticated auntie of the scallion pancake. Think of it like an asian burrito with thin sliced beef, fresh scallion and cilantro, and a touch of hoisin all hugged together with a crispy tasty scallion pancake. The shredded potato tastes like the best potato salad that isn't your picnic potato salad. The shredded potatoes were quickly blanched then stir fried preserving the crunch and crispness similar to al dente pasta. Seasoning was on point. The homiest flavor came from the stewed short rib. The rib pieces were braised in a soy and star anise sauce like what you find in Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The peels potatoes were cut rustically and just cooked through and not mushy. Authentic flavors and freshness like this is so so hard to come by. I can taste the quality of the ingredients used. One tip I have for selecting authentic food is by looking at the customers.
