This used to be my go to when I lived in the neighborhood. Moved out of the neighborhood ,went back, having not visited for years. I was very disappointed. The place has gone to crap the booths the chairs. Everything is dirty and old and falling apart. The vinyl on the seats are all exposing the under part of the cushions. It was pretty bad! I don't know if this place changed owners or what but the boy that helped me was not interested in me even being there as a customer-it was an imposition for me to stop him from prepping food to take my order and then to get back up and get a to go bag . I asked for a water and he just pointed over to the water machine soda pot machine to help myself! I ordered the hot and sour soup with a side of rice turned around it was delivered to my table in plastic with a paper plate and a plastic fork! I said no no no I want to eat in Not to go and he said we only do to go and you're welcome to eat inside. I was not happy. I almost threw it away as I walked out the door and then get this they want you to add a tip!? For over-the-counter service? No thank you. Avoid this place unless you like takeout I don't! Ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young. It was HORRIBLE! Was cold in the middle and seemed almost like cornbread with broccoli pieces inside. My Mom loves Egg Foo Yong. We had a rough day and had been to three Doctor Appts. That's too many but I called Dragon Diner because they were close by. They have one table and discourage you from eating in. They want it to be all take out. I'm no Health Code Expert but I'm sure several were being violated. After avoiding Dragon Diner since the beginning of Covid, when they stoped operating for quite some time, I decided to give it a try for lunch today. In the front door a sign was posted "no public restrooms" which should have been a clue that they were still in semi-lockdown 'mode. I arrived right at 11 when they were open for lunch and was greeted by a masked young woman who didn't offer to seat me. There was a table in the middle of the room that said "pick up" and the dining tables were empty, but I wasn't offered a seat. I asked if I could eat at a table and with difficulty, she indicated I could. So I offered a tangerine chicken dish off of their lunch menu. There were five people working there which seemed odd as there weren't customers. I sat down and within a couple of minutes my order was brought to the table in a styrofoam take out box with a fork, napkin, soy sauce and hot mustard in plastic squeeze packs. She asked if I needed a water and I said yes. It was brought in a red plastic cup. I felt quite uncomfortable eating inside so I took my food and left. As I left the man in charge asked if I needed a bag and I declined. I opened the lunch pack and tried the chicken which tasted like it had been cooked in really old fishy oil. The tangerine pieces tasted stale. The egg roll was ok and the ham fried rice was palatable. But overall, this had to be one of the worst places around for Chinese food. I've come to Dragon Diner since I was a child, and it is and always has been one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants in Utah. The Cashew Chicken is one of the best dishes! It has a slight sweetness to it, but is filled with veggies and chicken with a splattering of cashews. Their egg rolls are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, always bursting with flavor! Everything I've tried from here is the absolute best! And their egg drop soup is something I crave monthly! The service is fast and friendly, and I'm glad that they have online ordering! The ambiance is well maintained. The restaurant is small, and they used to have a wonderful dining area. At the time of this review, they only do takeout orders. I highly recommend this business! You will love it for a cozy night in with Chinese food! read more

In general the food was horrible. The chicken was a strange looking composition that I believe was processed. the sauces used tasted cheap .... and probably full of additives... terrible. the rice had no salt. the vegetables were covered in corn starch..gooy crap. in 70 plus years this was the worst. the BBQ pork was dry and old tasting. It should be a zero Star rating. I will never visit them again. And I will avoid driving past the Diner as it will remind me of my worst dining experience of so called Chinese food. an absolute disaster. read more

Well normally I would recommend this restaurant but I must say I have to complain I did send this message first I just wanted to give you a heads up I ordered dinner through Uber on 24 February. My name is Shelly Quist here is a copy of my receipt. I have been eating at Dragon Diner forever. We weren't able to finish the Shrimp although it was all very delicious I did put the leftovers in a plastic bowl and of course it got pushed to the back of the refrigerator however today 3/4 I was cleaning out the fridge and holy moly. There was the shrimp not much left but a few, so I was emptying it down sink and I found a metal clip in the bottom of my shrimp. I'm so glad no one ate it, but whoever did my shrimp that night needs to be a lot more careful. That's a lot of money just spent for dinner to have it ruined by a metal clip. The dinning area is not very nice. Old and delapidated. The staff is friendly and the food is good and their prices are about the same as anywhere else . Always hot but their spice meter may not be dialed in, things that they say are spicy aren't really all that spicy. For me it works out great because I do not like a lot of spice in my food. If you're OK with mild mild spicy level there should be no problem. Food taste great. I would recommend the house lo mein or the sweet-and-sour chicken.. read more

This restaurant has changed owners/management and not for the better. Ordering a to go of two regular menu items and an appetizer was an arduous task at best. I ordered Peking chicken and the reply was, "what size?" There is only one size on the menu. This went on with my Chow Mein and Wonton order as well well. Food was ready on time and well packed for travel but this is standard in Chinese to go. After that it all went down hill. The food was flavorless, the fried items tasted like rancid fry oil and the House chow mein was like soup and finding a morsel of meat was like a where's Waldo activity. Big downturn for what was once a regular stop in our Millcreek rotation. There will be no need to return as there are far better options in town. read more

This is our neighborhood go to for take out. I don't know what happened tonight, but everything was BAD. The noodles with vegies that we always get had no sauce and 2 pieces of broccoli. No water chestnuts, no snow peas, no onions, etc. Dry boring noodles, with minimal sauce. No vegies! The General's chicken that is always very crispy with lots of hot spicy sauce, was soggy with minimal sauce and no flavor. And the pork fried rice that always has tons of flavor and is our favoritefried rice? Nope. Another very disappointing miss tonight. My aunt would always get take out for us, almost once a week whenever I would come to her house and it was something I looked forward to. Ever since the change in ownership (congrats to Dennis for his retirement though!), the quality of food and service has gone downhill. It used to be a very friendly environment and now I just can't go there anymore after what I've witnessed. Since COVID happened, Dragon Diner became a take out only restaurant. The thing that really upset me was that they clearly said that they only do take out and when I picked up my food, I saw that the manager let some people sit in the restaurant to eat after they made a fuss about it and were told that they were not allowing dine-in from his employees. First of all, that's unfair to your employees and to your other customers. Second, why would you allow that behavior from rude customers? I could see that the other employees were uncomfortable about that. For so many years, me and my family have supported Dragon Diner, but now we will have to take our business elsewhere. I want to support a business that actually cares about their employees and that doesn't change the way they do business after being bought out. read more

I moved a few years ago, and came to one of my favorite places growing up, Dragon Diner. I was extremely let down. They tried to charge me a different price than the price on the menu, and then were very rude about it. The quality of the food has deterated as well, it was very rubbery. I didn't see any of the people who used to run it, so maybe it is operating under new ownership. It really makes me sad, I would eat from here 3-4 times a week in High School and college, I probably spent $10,000 over the years, and at a time I was making just over minimum wage. Dragon Diner is not what it use to be. It is self serve now which isn't a big deal but the guy that brought food after ordering at the counter wasn't not helpful. I let him know that their diet coke was flat and he didn't care. Said you can go get water by the fountain dispenser. I ordered the cashew chicken, the chicken had no flavor and was tough. My friend ordered the teriyaki chicken, she said it was tough it looked gross and the cup of teriyaki sauce was cold. We both only ate about aa third and threw the rest away. read more

We went to dine in at Dragon diner to try dine in. There was a to go waiting area as well as some tables. Food was brought in to go containers with red solo cups for water. Not the most upscale, but totally fine as long as you know going into it. The food was really good. I would have no problem going for relaxed lunch or dinner again. I visited Dragon Diner with high hopes after seeing some mixed reviews, hoping to form my own opinion. Unfortunately, the experience was profoundly disappointing. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was less than welcoming, I should've known to leave as soon as I found out I had to order at the register and pay before I sat down. To preface, I had no idea this restaurant was "takeout" only. It's America in 2024 so there are no COVID lockdowns as of present. When the food finally arrived, it was a letdown. I ordered Orange Chicken to play it safe and I took 3 bites and was afraid to take anymore. My wife had the Chicken Lo Mien and felt the same. The fried rice was okay, and the egg drop soup had a faint smell of dishwasher cleaner I didn't have the stomach to try it. The cleanliness of the place also left much to be desired, with sticky booths and dirty ceilings clearly noticeable. Left me wondering what else went left uncleaned. After reading other reviews, I now understand that the staff's constant staring was due to the unique COVID-19 restrictions they have implemented. This with everything else including made this feel like a very uncomfortable and unsafe place to eat. read more

Get it to go. This was our first time with the dine-in option and it is not the restaurant's forte. We were told to grab a table anywhere but then had to come back to the counter to order. The person who took our order was friendly, but when my husband went to get his drink while I paid, the staff member said he needed my husband to come back and sign the bill. The food was not up to the usual standards (soup was cold) and the portions were small and all served in to go containers. The food was delivered to our table but otherwise it's self serve with disposable tableware and self bussing. Even our noodles were delivered to our table in a box wrapped in plastic. The ambiance is not inviting. The women's bathroom had water all over the floor and was out of paper towels. It is an extra charge if you want a fortune cookie. Always loved Dragon Diner. Been ordering food from there for 10 years. Last few visits have been very disappointing. Ordered vegetable Lo main and an order of fried shrimp. Total bill with tip was 25.50. Sooo dissatisfied. Lo mein was good but Fried Shrimp was honestly so stale and old that I had to throw it away. How do you ruin fried shrimp? Shrimp was freezer burnt, dry and cooked in what tasted like old dirty grease. I know the person/s who packed this order was well aware of this. There was no denying the poor quality My guess is their error in thinking is due to the fact they have a solid take out order base. Now they can pass this old food off to some customers and get away with it. Sorry dragon diner. You have messed with me twice now and I will not be ordering from you anymore.
