WORST HOT AND SOUR SOUP EVER. I complained and they said they would make me more soup. Just like yesterday, they made a big batch, heated some for me and put in vegetables and meats. They raised the price to $4.00, the quality decreased to horrible. I won't go back there. When I told them I wanted a fresh batch, they said we just made this.ars. I ordered takeout from here tonight. Eh. It was just okay. I ordered the hot and sour soup, which was a bit thin and greasy but otherwise okay tasting. I also ordered the chicken and snow peas. In my experience, this dish is supposed to be chicken, snow peas, maybe a few carrot slices, and a clear-ish sauce. Instead it came drenched in a brown sauce and had a ton of carrots, mushrooms, and water chestnuts. Not what I expected, plus the snow peas were really overcooked and had no "snap" whatsoever. I probably won't be going back here. On the plus side, the prices are very good, and $10.74 bought enough food for two meals or more. Last 3 times Ive been there I've asked to make my chicken extra spicy. I literally say "make it so spicy it hurts." or "the spiciest you can possibly make it." it has never been spicy. Microwaved food!! Yes you read it right. Stopped in here this afternoon starving. Ordered sesame chicken combination. I saw cook take a container of rice out of microwave. Then saw him put broccoli in another and back in. I am gueas the chicken was in there too. Then they put in one container and off I went. Rice had no taste and I had to salt. Chicken was Not cooked well at all either. Definitely tastes as if entire thing was microwaved. The cook didnt use the wok at all!. At least crab Rangoon were good and cooked fresh though I dont like how they leave them just sitting in tray on counter uncovered! Going to pass on this place from now on. so, chinese food... i never care for it, but every once in a while, mr. bekee gets a hankerin', so i go along. their vegetable moo shu was excellent. a great mix of fresh, crispy (when necessary) vegetables and egg, delivered with four pancakes (not flour tortillas, like some places try to pull), and yummy plum sauce. the vegetable spring roll was also a success, though a little over-greasy. my dining companion had a three-meat and garlic sauce dish, which he said was delicious with dumplings and a pork egg roll. all were very tasty. the best part was that the delivery took under 15 minutes! and we're over 2 miles away, as the car drives. i presume they'll become part of our lazy weekend agenda. read more

The great thing about China Wok is it is exactly what you'd expect. It's your decent, standard Americanized Chinese fare. I've never had a bad experience; it's always the same. This place is close by me, so delivery is always super fast. Although the food is generally nothing special, the fried dumplings hold an especially, soft, doughy spot in my heart. read more

The food is good for inexpensive Chinese food. The service when we ordered online was awesome - they noticed we wrote a note asking for something to be made vegetarian, and they took the extra step of calling us to make sure we knew that one part of our order did have meat in it. I ordered delivery from this place for the first time since I just moved into the area and it was the worst service and food wasn't that great. I took over 2 hours for us to get our food delivered. Called and hour later and they said the driver just left with the food and it took another hour after that to get our food. I only live 5 minutes away from this place. Standard midwest Chinese food, fast delivery, good prices, and absolutely the best steamed dumplings in town (and I've tried most of them). They're twice the size of the dumplings anywhere else in town and have a nice bite of ginger. The vegetables were over-cooked, mostly shredded cabbage, sitting in so much liquid that I had to use a slotted spoon to get something I could put on a tortilla. That's right - tortillas in place of pancakes. Not the same. I did think the wonton soup was good - large wontons, well-stuffed, plenty of them. It's best to avoid the sweet/sour shrimp here, as the portion consists of (at first glance) six medium to large shrimp encased in a greasy fried batter. But underneath the batter, one needs a microscope in order to discern shrimp. This menu item comes with a small box of the usual white rice and a small container of day-glo reddish orange sweet/sour sauce accompanied by a fortune cookie. No pineapple chunks. No sweet cherries. No strips of green pepper which is traditional with American-Chinese sweet/sour dishes. What a rip. However, the kung pao shrimp here is always outstanding, with a generous amount of medium size tender shrimp and lots of diced veggies all perfectly seasoned, topping white rice for the lunch special, on the side for the supper menu. This is a spicy selection, but not too. Their egg foo young will do in a rush. These are the only menu selections I've tried lately. read more

This is our "go-to" Chinese restaurant on the North and East side of Madison. It's not going to knock your socks off or anything but it's by far the best in the area in this price range. The food is not super greasy or full of crazy amounts of that fake testing Chinese food seasoning some of the restaurants put in (I don't know what it is...but there are some of you right now who know what I'm talking about!). They are not overly helpful on the phone but in the many times we've ordered (over 6 years), they've never messed up on an order, are always within 30 minutes of a delivery time, and deliver HOT. We recommend the orange chicken, the vegetable lo mein, and any form of tofu--especially the tofu cashew (as a nice vegetarian option). I see that some people say there aren't veggie options but as a family that is primarily vegetarian, they've substituted tofu in every dish without complaint. And will make just about any dish you ask. They may not appear to be excited about doing it but then again, I don't think they get excited about anything....They just do what they do--Make good, fast, hot Chinese food. As mentioned, sizable portions--like, a dinner now and lunch tomorrow. We also had fried dumplings and the freebie crab rangoon (for orders over $20). Dumplings were fantastic. Rangoon was enjoyable, but not much crab to speak of. But, this is par for the course for Chinese take-out. We used the online computer ordering system via GrubHub---very convenient and efficient. I order from these guys probably once a week. The food gets to me very fast even though they say it can take an hour. The food is always good and very consistent. I live like a short distance away from here, and have been here many times! Although I'm not Chinese, I think there food is pretty good even though I almost always order the same thing every time. Now to the downside, the staff first of all is VERY rude. The cashier barely answered any of my questions about the food, and didn't even look like he gave a crap. I've ordered from them a few times before- the first times, the food arrived when it was supposed to and tasted fine (not great, but this caliber of "chinese" never is), and no mess ups with online ordering. This last time though...I don't know. I went on a limb to order vegetable chow mein, and it was a tub of vegetables in thick, mucus looking stuff. We ate it, whatever. The crab rangoons weren't really warm, but still edible. The major point of contention was the veggie lo-mein. I don't know HOW, but it smelled so weird we couldn't eat it. It smelled like a barn. That's the best I could relate it to. Nonetheless, I'm sure it's fine to eat, but I didn't like the smell as a kid, and I sure don't now. I'm from China I moved here to Madison in the 80's. I decided to take a look at the local fare around here and chose China wok. I went in and the decore was absolutly terrible. Instead of eating there I chose to take out. The menu was all awful looking and so I ordered and left I got home and checked the bag to realise. They messed up my order and when I went to eat it even though it wasn't what I ordered I found a long black hair. I called to complain about my order and the girl who gave me my food was incredibly rude to me and told me to stop lying about their food and to not call back again. I was truly shocked at the treatment I recieved. I highly recommend staying away from this second rate chinese restraunt. read more

I ordered a seasame chicken and some fried dumplings and they were pretty awesome. It took around 25 minutes for the food to be delivered so that was good. When I got the food, it was warm. the fried dumplings were kind of "crispy" and it tasted very good. I would've rated it as a 4 1/2 but there wasn't. The fried dumplings weren't super greasy as some of the other restaurants in Madison. Afterwards I found a website online. It was www.chinawokok.com.
