Embarrassed, I gave a light jerk of my feet, and he resumed the massage. I must've dozed off again, because once more, I snored myself awake. This time, I didn't jump--I peeked through half-closed eyelids and noticed something strange. The masseur seemed to be resting as well, head down, cap low, hands frozen in place. Another slight foot jerk prompted him to continue, and I stayed awake to watch. Sure enough, he adjusted himself and picked back up again. I can't say for certain, but it felt like he stopped massaging whenever I fell asleep. I sincerely hope that's not standard practice.
