I liked this place for their service and some of their food dishes. They have a nice assortment of foods to choose from, but some of the dishes they served were too greasy for me, while others were extremely tasty and not greasy at all. I really wish the new owners would have kept the old orange chicken recipe because the new one is just sweet.. the combos are average but the service is phenomenal. The place looks very clean and they are accommodating when it comes to changing spice level/ sides. The woman in the front who doubles as a server is very nice and tries to make sure your drink is full and you have everything you need so don't forget to tip her! Chinese Kitchen, once a staple of Chinese American cuisine that was shared by many in Visalia. You will be missed..... RIP Chinese Kitchen..... My visit here was alright with the light cheery customer service I'm not accustomed to from the original owners but damn their food was good! The new owners have cleaned up the counter and got rid of the fish and the new decoré is light yet beautiful. The smells upon entering reassured me that the food was going to be the same. #ubersadface Now it's a sad, bland mix of new and old. My sticky "fried" rice was way different than the original fluffy and flavorful rice of old. The brandy wings, although not overly greasy, were hard and dry, not crunchy and juicy and meaty like they used to be. And I'm also disappointed that you can no longer get broccoli beef or even broccoli chicken with the dinner plates. Although i ordered a quart, sadly it too was lacking flavor. I'll always have my memories of overfilled plates and full tummy moments. Hopefully they bring back the old recipes, till then I will have to find another place to fill my need for brandy wings and fried rice. read more

Me & the Mrs were driving towards Fresno to get lunch when searching through Yelp found this little gem in Fowler with such great reviews. As being a lover of Chinese food we decided to check it out. Really glad we did, the restaurant is clean, the service was outstanding, the owner was hilarious with such a great friendly attitude and the food was quite simply devine. It was lunch time and the place is busy with locals and regulars as the owner welcomed them by name. When locals keep coming back you know your onto a winner. So good and great prices. They make the best Pork Fried Rice, and the Beef Chow Mein with Crunchy Noodles is just as delicious! They give generous portions with their take out orders, depending on what you order it can feed a family of 4-6. The Peking Ribs are on the higher end of the price range however quite good. If you havent tried it I suggest trying it out, you won't be disappointed with the price nor the meal. read more

We ate here just before closing on 28 Mar, 2013. First, understand what this is: a family owned neighborhood restaurant in a parking lot behind gas pumps and a you-do-it car wash. The exterior and the interior are plain and a little worn. Places like this have some of the best and some of the worst food. This has some of the best homemade-style Chinese food I've had. The manager and the waitress were very helpful and friendly. He told me that the waitress actually is his mom and that his parents have had this place at this location for 25 years. Mom is quiet but we found she has a cute sense of humor. The food was a pleasant surprise. We had the lemon chicken and the mu shu pork. The lemon chicken was tasty although not breaded like in other restaurants. The mu shu pork was generously portioned. We plan to return for both. I was hopeful when Mom asked whether we wanted her to roll the pancakes for us, but she did it in the kitchen before serving it -- sometimes waiters do it one-handed with a couple of spoons at the table. All in all, we enjoyed our experience there and plan to return. read more

If you like Chinese food this is the place to go in Visalia. This is by all accounts the closest traditionally to what you will find in Hong Kong. They have a pretty good sized menu and will make Hong Kong style pan fried noodles if you ask. the Chinese Kitchen is large enough to handle a big group but small enough to feel cozy. Everything is good. If I could add more stars I would, when it comes to take out or dine in you can't beat their flavor. They will also make tofu dishes if you ask nice (and being a vegetarian I like that). read more

I have been hearing great things about this place for a while now, and today was my first time going in and actually having lunch here. So I asked for the orange chicken and take note that I'm very picky with the way they make orange chicken. With that being said, this orange chicken blew me away it is absolutely delicious. This place is great! It's under new ownership. We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. I ordered the spicy pork chop lunch combo. It was so delicious! My kids ordered the Orange chicken and sweet n sour pork lunch combos. Each meal was fresh and delicious. Portions are large. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The restrooms were very clean. I grew up coming to Chinese Kitchen. After I moved to Fresno it was hard for me to find another place like them. I will drive 45 minutes to get some really good Chinese food because its worth it. There Crispy Noodles are the best. And even though the outside may not be impressive the food is. Worth trying once and you will fall in love and keep going back. read more

I was a huge fan and a regular customer at Chinese Kitchen when the previous owners Jim and Main ran the business, so I was very hesitant to go back after once it went under new management. But I just have to say, Wow! I am very impressed. The food is different, but it is very good. The portions are bigger, the cooks use less oil, and everything is very flavorful. The new owners are extremely nice, as is the rest of the staff. Very sweet and attentive waitresses! The new owners have also done many renovations and definitely cleaned the place up. I am always looking to find that dirty hole in the wall restaurant that has amazing food. Chinese Kitchen does not have amazing food, however, it is a dirty hole in the wall restaurant. I came here with my wife and when we received our food I realized the bean sprouts they used in their chow mien was a day from being rotten. Right there I knew every other ingredient they used in there dishes would be "old n nasty" and so it was. While we ate my wife complained about the food but I kept saying it's edible. However half way through our lunch my wife pointed out two (2) cockroaches crawling on the wall. At this point, my forgiving nature gave way and I realized this would be the first and last time I ate here. read more

Terrible! I have a bad head cold and all I wanted was some wonton soup and fried rice. I got take out and drove home. Not a single wonton was intact. Just overcooked noodles and the occasional meatball that should have been inside the noodle. Broth was hot water. It was like the soup sat on the stove for a few days, the wontons fell apart, then they just added some water and sold it. The fried rice was also horrible. No flavor and it also tasted old, not fresh. NEVER AGAIN! read more

My family and I have been eating at the wonderful family restaurant since 1988 when they were in a different location. Husband and wife own it and both son and daughter work there. The food is the best Chinese food in Visalia--period! The people are wonderful and "Main", the wife, used to hold our children when they were babies so my wife could eat her food. The kids are all grown now and all of them come to this restaurant whenever they are in the Visalia area. We now live out of town but always drop in for a meal when we are here. We did so today and, as always, the food was delicious. Where can you get a giant bowl of great Wor Won Ton soup at these great prices? Over the past 27 years, our family has eaten most of the items on their excellent menu and have never been disappointed. Like the old TV commercial used to say, "Try it, you'll like it." Ewww...I had been patronizing this restaurant for about a year, mostly for takeout. Food was tasty, service polite and quick. Why the 1 star? Today I stopped by on a slow afternoon to place my usual takeout order. There were no patrons in the restaurant and while I sat in the chairs near the register to wait for my order , I heard the most godawful cough coming from the kitchen. I mean the kind of cough you would only hear in a tubercolisis ward. I could see through the window in the swinging kitchen doors that a female employee was casually spitting massive quantities of phlegm in plain view into a waste container. She was hacking away non-chalantly while making the most obsence guttural sounds worthy of a medical textbook entry.. I immediately lost my apetite, commented to the cashier that I was thoroughly grossed out and would like to receive a refund, which she promptly issued apologetically. Too bad. I liked this place but I'm a stickler for hygiene. I don't think I can ever erase this image from my mind and won't be patronizing the Chinese Kitchen again. I think this is a cultural thing for them. By that I mean that this behavior is normal in public. Whether this individual was an owner or just an employee is unknown to me. read more

I have been going to the Chinese Kitchen since it opened. Their pot stickers are handmade & delicious. I have eaten Chinese food in the Bay Area, at the coast and in SoCal. No other pot stickers come close to being as good as these. My brother and sister-in-law live 8 hours away & always choose this restaurant when they come to visit. While the restaurant itself is neither new nor glamorous, the food more than makes up for that. We have known the family for as many years as they have owned this restaurant. They are courteous and gracious & their cuisine is top notch. Through the years we have had most of the menu items at one time or another. We have never been disappointed. I have lived in Visalia almost my whole life & have tried all the other Chinese restaurants here. This is number one in my book. read more
