I thought about ACC, but didn't want a formal school setting with grading and college kids. I LOVE the language houses small classes and emphasis on conversation, plus the non-judgmental and encouraging learning environment they foster. The social events are really fun and helpful as well! They also do younger kids short term trips for kids from all over the world on holiday. The new location in Caesar Chavez is an amazing two story building with a real Austin feel. It is located in the artsy part of Austin east of the center. Within two minutes walk of the location are cafes，restaurants, bars, and places to hang out. Just a few blocks away is Metz Park where they have water activities in lake Austin such as canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, rowing and more. Lynn Petro, one of the administrators and teachers has been there for 20 years and is a student favorite. Heather, who manages the location is an Austin native with welcoming heart and great big Texan personality. The teachers are the best with wonderful personalities and dedication to their curriculum. The teachers and staff are loving, knowledgeable and engaging. The school is full Immersion, so mostly everything is taught in Chinese, with English incorporated accordingly as the kiddos advance through grades. Each kiddo is challenged independently from their grade level, and there's an emphasis placed on learning through play and reasoning, vs memorization and repetition. We were personally concerned about our kiddo learning 3 languages concurrently, bc's our old & tired brains couldn't fathom the possibility, but the school was very vigilant and closely monitored the situation, and it never became an issue (which they had accurately predicted). My child often played alone and the staff did not help him develop any skills. They are his linch and told me he didn't eat. Km aware of this because when he came home and I would give him a similar snack he was say "give me that!" and snatch from me which was new behavior since he was entilled. He often came home with cuts and scrapes and one time a burn on his arm. Do not leave your minority child in their care. Not warm and fuzzy towards blacks. Period.
