The move went as best as we could've expected. One of my husband's tables was broken, but I think he should have packed that himself. It was delicate. I was so nervous for your cross-country move. In searching for a moving company, I read so many horror stories about all the possible things that could go wrong. After reading countless reviews and speaking with several reps on the phone, we decided to go with a well-known National brand, Mayflower. Through them, we were connected with Chipman Relocation, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. Some of the highlights of the experience were the friendliness and availability of everyone we worked with, from the estimators, to the coordinators, to the friendliest truck driver (who was leading the move on both ends). Though the quote for the move wasn't the lowest, or even second lowest, we received, we felt confident that what we were quoted would be what we paid, and in the end, I think we may have paid just a little less. The coordinator we worked with, Jennifer, was amazing. She called several times pre and post move (as well as days of pickup and delivery) to make sure everything was going as planned and expected. She made the whole process smooth and put our worries at ease. The loading and unloading crews on each end were courteous, professional, energetic, and just fun. They were led by our truck driver who oversaw the loading and delivery days, and kept in touch with us as he was traveling cross-country. He was even able to deliver our belongings a few days earlier than expected, which was fantastic. In the end, our experience with Chipman Relocation was fantastic. We recently moved across country. Decided to use Chipman as they are affiliated with United van lines. Driver John was very professional and hired excellent help. Quenisha customer service was also amazing. Very thorough follow through and constant contact. She must've called me five times. The pick up was done at the time stated and the load was loaded. Very efficiently delivery was made within the given time frame, John and Juan unloaded it very fast, everything was great until I started to unpack the following day. Unpacking my TV. I noticed that there was some damage. I called Quenisha and explained the problems. She told me she would get in touch with claims. Claims then sent me a form to fill out which I filled out and emailed back. I received a response from claims with a number that was much lower than I anticipated, I contacted Quenisha and she said she would call claims and have them get in touch with me. Within five minutes I received a call from Bret claims, I then explained my side of the view which she listened to patiently. She then stated that she would talk to her manager and get back to me. Within a couple of hours she did call me back telling me that they would cover the entire amount. I judge a company not by how they do regular business but how they do business when there are problems. This company stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. I worked with this team via MayFlower and had Jamie Baleno as my moving coordinator. We were moving from SF to NYC and Jamie in particular made the whole thing very easy and stress free. The entire team and Chipman went above and beyond. My move from the bay area to NYC was logistically complex. I was attempting to coordinate a host of issues, moving out of my home, the dates for temporary housing, coordinating the arrival of my household goods from across the country within a narrow (and needed!) delivery window, etc. and they made it happen. It's terrible to find out on Yelp that they are not going to do anything to make up for the lost or damaged items.

My move from California was less than fantastic with Chipman. They present themselves as being straightforward and responsive, but it's not quite so once you sign! My experience: 1) This is the biggest issue! I asked if the estimate was entirely "bound" meaning provided I showed everything I was shipping, there would be no surprise charges. The "Surprises" charges was my #1 concern. The estimator went through my entire home and said it was bound. I re-asked my move coordinator, who confirmed there was no way I would get a surprise charge. The form I signed had the word "BINDING" in big letters near my TOTAL estimate (picture attached). And what happened....I got an over $300 surprise charge! Why? Answer: to move mirrors and glass and larger pictures, they use a contractor to crate up your items - this is NOT bound and no-one mentions this to you, even if you ask if there is ANY way the price won't be bound. This crating service is a 3rd party - you don't pick them, you don't have their contact info, you have no assurance of their quality, and once you have an issue with them, your ONLY connection with them (Chipman) says "sorry, we have no control over the 3rd party". The 3rd party can charge you more if they see fit - in my case they walked in my home and told me how many things they were crating and it was a different number than originally estimated apparently (which you won't know unless you grill your estimator and then manage the 3rd party while you are trying to assist the main movers). So in the middle of the move, they did just that, crate more than they were supposed to then they charged me more as a surprise months later and you have no recourse. Starting with zero education about this for customers up to how third party issues were handled by Chipman, this is my largest issue. 2) The damage process has been challenging, and now over 2 month out, it's still not resolved. I had at least 9 items damaged (!!) the most expensive being delicate leather furniture which I listed as "high value" and which was then packed by the most junior member of the team. He used his phone so much during the move day, he asked me if I had a charger somehow unpacked so he could juice it up and keep texting. That guy damaged the leather. You submit damages online, they say they will get back to you in 7 days, which turns into 10. Down the line, they say someone is coming out to fix some of the damage, and no word from this repair person for almost 2 weeks. At this rate, my move will be settled around the time I move out of here! I know all moving companies are generally considered shady. A word to the wise, this group is the same. Be as cautious as you would with any, read all fine print and ignore what they tell you, and finally be persistent if you want anything done or taken care of! read more

this is a company that is in connection with Mayflower Moving. The gentleman that did the walk through was very nice and thorough. My moving representative was very helpful and nice as well. The gentleman (Danny) gave my # to a car mover which I asked for but when I talked with him the quote was too high and I went with another car transport. He then called to follow up and was almost rude that I wouldn't use them. Very high pressure - scare tactics about the other companies etc. I was not happy. Over all move was ok. There was some confusion on my part about the first days of prep, but overall movers were professional and complete. Upon delivery was ok. After they left we realized a table had been broken, a art piece had been broken and glued back together and some other things were pretty marred. Spoke to the rep. she was very nice sent me a link about claims. Said to complete the unpacking then tackle that. The problem is the claims process is long and detailed and requires original packing but after unpacking everything - good luck with that. So of course we dropped it. I doubt many of the claims get anywhere. We understand stuff happens but after realizing they glued something back together to hide it, it was a bit annoying. The other thing was the lead guy upon delivery didn't have me fill out the "bingo sheet" which matches everything. I didn't know about that and he just breezed over it. Overall - move was timely, professional and pretty good. Disappointed about the items lost but I guess such is life..... read more

These guys are absolutely terrible. They sent an unprofessional crew that literally dropped our couch from a vertical position onto our concrete driveway. They moved the truck with the door open and several boxes came crashing to the ground. They literally broke a dining table base into two pieces. They failed to wrap a queen bed and got the white upholstery stained dark gray ... and are refusing to replace the bed. They broke a rocking chair arm, damaged another table, damaged two bookshelves and other furniture items. I've moved cross-country several times and this was, by far, the absolute worst moving experience we've ever had. To top it off, they are offering very little in way of compensation and are taking the position that everything is fixable. Don't work with these guys. They're awful. read more

It took less time than we expected and absolutely loved how they included us in the inventory process of our items. It made the process of loading and unloading easy and reassuring. If I could give these guys negative stars, I would. 1. After they picked up my stuff, they indicated that it weighed more than the quote, and charged me more. 2. It took 3 huge guys all day to load a truck for a house of 1800 sq ft. when everything was already packed and boxed. It turns out that the people that were sent were the "driver's" crew, so who knows what kind of qualifications they had. 3. They spent all day at my house because they didn't send a big enough truck and the guys were literally throwing items into the back to try to finish the pick up. Because the truck was not big enough, they left packing materials and equipment on my porch. 4. My delivery required 2 drop offs - the first sent unpackers, the second only had the driver. 5. So many items are scratched, broken, and missing. I'm 6 months out and still finding things like dining room chairs where someone removed one of the supports or scratches on bookcases. 6. They charged me for "mattress boxes" - No boxes were used. mattresses showed up with blankets over top and the mattresses were filthy - I replaced all of them. read more

This move couldn't have gone better, faster, or smoother! I am very happy with my choice. I moved a large 1 BR from San Jose CA to Austin TX. I quoted three moving companies, and Chipman seemed to have the best reviews, be the most professional, and cost and services were in line with expectations. I only had one casualty - a pancake griddle lol - and a dresser with a couple drawers needing an easy repair. Other than that, ALL items arrived, on the first hour of the first day of my delivery window! We have been using Chipman for literally decades to move family and friends. Barbie and I do not give out recommendations lightly; but, when we hear "do you have a mover," Chipman United is the only name we consider giving. Moving is all about planning and execution, and this is where Chipman excels. The service is outstanding and the result is flawless. The truck arrives on time, the movers are friendly and do their best to remove the potential for mishaps. I'm a CPA and do the math. To rent a truck, pay for gas, insurance and the medical bills for injury does not make since when for less you can engage Chipman; well, let's just say DO IT Yourself is just silly. Pros: movers on both ends arrived on time, were professional. Cons: they lost a large box containing essential kitchen items worth at least $700 and damaged several other items. The compensation value they offered was insulting. And there was no evidence that any attempt to locate this box was made. Also, the unpacking of our items was two weeks late. They could not give us a delivery date until the day before when we were out of town (because we did not have most of our belongings) leading to the delay of the delivery by another week. Not expecting perfection here, but we are a family of 5 and these complications became quite a headache for us in terms of time, effort and $$$. read more

It has been a year since our move and we are still marveling at the ease with which it happened. We moved from the SF Bay Area to eastern Washington. To start, Doris Mansfield who called to schedule the video estimate walkthrough was very pleasant and helpful. Next came Brad Keller, who did the estimate virtually (Covid), was also very helpful, knowledgable and friendly. As time went on and we got rid of things, packed some things, and Covid restrictions let up, he came back to the house to re-do the estimate. We had saved $1000.00 or so between the two estimates. We were assigned to JENNIFER JOHNSON as our Move Coordinator and she was nothing short of amazing! She kept in great touch, answered my never ending questions and responded with patience and grace throughout our move, which was during the pandemic, so everything was off kilter. From timing information to payment, crating some furniture, information about the crew, through to debris removal - everything - she was attentive, professional and friendly. The crew was great - friendly and efficient. Mike led the packing crew, I think Tyrone was another packer, who gave us some tips about the move and did a great job. The young woman who was keeping track of the boxes, contents and furniture was good at her job and friendly as she spent two full days in my house. I don't recall her name, but - At the arrival end, Jason was our driver and arrived on the dot of his ETA. He told me that the young woman (whose name I remembered at the time) was his daughter, and he was clearly quite proud of her! The off loading of the truck went well - it was a hot day in August and the guys kept moving and were patient and friendly. At the end, Bret Souza was the Sr. Claims Adjuster who helped me with our claim. We have moved many times and it is unrealistic to expect absolutely all of your goods to come through absolutely unscathed. The trick is to have an adjuster who listens, understands and gets the job done. We had some minor and medium damage (one of the glass windows in my china cabinet was broken was the biggest thing.) We sent in our claim and received the checks in the mail in no time. The adjuster assigned to my claim was out of the office, so Jennifer connected me to Bret, and he got it done. All in all Chipman Relo did a great job, and most of the credit goes to JENNIFER JOHNSON, who kept us informed and kept track of our goods with patience and professionalism. She followed up with the scheduling of the debris removal and that happened smoothly and in a timely manner as well. Thanks to everyone who made our move way less stressful than it could have been! We recommend Chimpan Relo! P.S. Friends of ours made a similar move and although they had a different Move Coordinator, they spoke highly of the experience with Chipman as well. First of all, I tried to recreate my excellent experience with Mayflower Moving Vans who relocated me ten years ago from New York to San Francisco, but mergers have taken place so I ended up dealing with Chipman. Maybe it was luck - I don't know. But Scott McElfresh came to our house and gave us an estimate which turned out to be pretty accurate in terms of number of boxes and weight. The team of packers and movers were fantastic. They treated us, our belongings and each other with a lot of respect. They were a great crew. And we were called a few times by Theresa who wanted to be sure everything was going okay. Our whole move had to be loaded into storage and then reloaded into another van when we finally bought a house in NY. Again, the driver and his crew were fantastic and respectful. Did everything arrive in perfect condition? Seriously? No. There were a couple of mishaps and Mayflower reimbursed us promptly. On top of that, they also sent us a check for more than $600 for over estimating the weight of our move. I would definitely use Mayflower / Chipman again and highly recommend them. read more

Jennifer liaised with the packers (a different company) when they weren't following protocol, and when my goods (delivered by a different company) arrived and key items (bed! sofa! more!) arrived unusable, Jennifer advocated for me to get an emergency claim started as well as other logistical solutions that the local moving company had no foresight or interest in helping me with. Some moving companies' just simple pick up your household goods damage it, drop off, and hurriedly move to the next victim. This time around, we were very fortunate to have hire Chipman moving company. The positive experience begins with Teresa at the office, a real professional who always return our calls in a timely manner. More importantly the moving crew lead and great communicator Steve, supported by Alfonso, Christian, and Jr. These guys are are best I have ever encounter in the moving business. They arrive on time, make the walk around assessment and dive into the job without considering a break. Before you know it every piece of furniture is well wrap and the trucks are loaded ready to go. Moving is very stressful and when you hire the wrong moving company to handle the move, it's even worse. Unfortunately I hired what I thought was a reputable & professional company, Chipman (agent for Mayflower Transit). But from the beginning the services I contracted them for have been plagued with problems. In April I signed a contract with Chipman/Mayflower to move our stuff from San Francisco CA to Taos, NM and purchased a $50,000 moving policy with zero deductible to cover any potential damage that could potentially happen in the move. The day before the move I was told that the driver who would deliver our belongings to New Mexico was no longer available and they would be sending and alternate team to pack the larger furniture items and boxes (packed by us). The moving team was promised to arrive between the hours of 10am to 12pm, but didn't not show until 3 hours later. Once they arrived they were very rushed as it was now approaching the end of the day. The 3-man team began moving all the furniture downstairs from the 6th floor without any protection (blankets, bubble wrap, etc). This concerned me but I was assured that everything would be wrapped carefully downstairs on the street prior to being put on the truck. I was also surprised to learn that the items would need to be unloaded, stored in Oakland, CA and reloaded on another truck to get to its final destination (which is not what I was originally told). Flash forward to delivery to Taos and the delivery window originally promised by Chipman/Mayflower was delayed as the delivery van broke down on it's way to New Mexico. Once the boxes and furniture were delivered we began to notice that several furniture items were damaged (bent legs, chipped, scratches) and some containers and items were completely smashed and destroyed. I contacted my sales rep at Chipman and was informed me that I needed to file a claim for the damage but reassured me that I had purchased a "valuation policy of $50,000 with zero deductible". I completed the claim online and 1-week later requesting lots of details on the damage and more pictures. After waiting several weeks to organize an inspection, I received an abrupt letter from Chipman stating that they have denied responsibility for all items except 1 - offering me $150 in total compensation?? They also stated that ANY item packed by myself was ineligible for any insurance coverage - something that was NEVER made clear when the sales rep from Chipman sold me the moving package. This was extremely misleading as I bought the higher insurance coverage package and he never explained its very obvious limitations. Chipman's explanation for everything was the damage was pre-exisiting according to the "at origin inspection". This was not true. The movers in San Francisco flagged almost everything they moved as "RUBBED" and "BADLY WORN" when many items were in new condition (have the receipts as to prove that) - but of course Chipman never asked for any of that information. They have not even offered to repair any of the damage in lieu of cash settlement. I have tried to work with this company directly to resolve this issue for weeks, but they are unreasonable to deal with. read more

Great movers! They were very responsive and helped answer all of my questions throughout the process. I was planning a move from CA to LA and this was my first time using a moving service. I went with Mayflower because of my interaction with Mike, who was the one to give me my initial quote and do the video walk through. I'm so glad I did. Jamie (the coordinator) was the person I was in contact with the most. She was wonderful in answering questions and called me to check in before and during the move to make sure everything was going well. The crew showed up on time (Mike, Mike, and Jeff) and worked quickly and efficiently to pack everything and get it in the truck. They were very friendly and Mike talked me through the entire process so I was aware of what to expect. I oversaw the hiring process of a moving company for our law firm. I started searching companies back in April for a June move. Our relatively small office was only moving a few miles and I had several companies come look at our space and give estimates based on their professional opinion. Chipman was one of the lower estimates that offered the most for your money so we hired them. On moving day, workers showed up late, spent lots of time sitting around, taking one after another breaks to smoke, but eventually got all of our belonging loaded up and to the new office over the course of the weekend. A couple firm employees helped with this and stated they worked harder than any of the hired movers. One of the first problems: Our files were re-shelved incorrectly. Hundreds of boxes of archived files that were numbered were placed on tall shelves with no logical order. And active files were placed somewhat haphazardly as well (but a little easier to fix than the boxes). Only a couple items were lost after the move was complete, nothing really significant, but a few noticeable personal things that never turned up anywhere. The biggest problem: Our invoice came in at over $16,000 when we were quoted about $10,000. Insane!! A couple hours of overtime labor was one of the biggest problems we had with it, since so many of the laborers were not helping, so much of the time they were there. If youre going to be disappearing that frequently to who knows where, it should not be on-the-clock, at the expense of the business youre relocating. While we were able to somewhat negotiate the final price to just under $13,000, we were very, very unhappy with the jump in cost and would not use them again, nor recommend this company to any other business looking for an office relocation company. read more

These guys ROCK! Just relocated a friend of mine today from being 10 minutes early before 8 am to finishing at 6:45 pm. Helped efficiently & respectfully Pack & Label everything including plants all day. Great Attitudes & organization & friendly & helpful during what could have been a very stressful move for 6 full apartments of people -- all in one day. Awesome work guys!!!!!
