Our waiters brought the food very quickly The clam chowder was delicious: smoky, tasty, not too creamy,, flavored with paprika and pepper. Our entrées were wonderful. The lobster nachos were excellent with a really nice mango topping. The lobster dinner was excellent, the lobster was sweet and juicy, served with corn on the cob and potato chips. Everybody knows about this place... good reason for that. It's EXCELLENT. But before I continue, Bar Harbor Lobster POUND is NOT to be confused with Bar Harbor Lobster COMPANY. I am writing about the POUND, located on the outskirts of Bar Harbor on the main road into or out of Bar Harbor. The POUND is a very spacious "compound" with lots and lots of outdoor picnic tables (and a small indoors dining area as well) to dine on all things lobster. There's even some games for people to play (like cornhole). It's so relaxing and fun, and we even shared our picnic table with another couple. Everyone is happy and friendly. We loved the entire experience so much that we had dinner two of the three nights in Bar Harbor ! Talk about a well-oiled machine, this operation probably handles thousands of diners daily. The lines are always long but move quickly. The tables are always full, yet there's always a seat to be found. You place your order, and they bring the food... quickly. For our first night in Bar Harbor and at this place, we just had to try the steamed lobster dinner, and at first, we just sat there staring at the gorgeous red lobster. We didn't know what to do with it and quickly realized we had NO idea how to eat a lobster !! The owner saw us staring and kindly came over to give us instructions. At first, we felt like idiots, but she immediately put us at ease, and we realized that most people who come through there are probably just like us. Anyway, she was a great teacher because we ripped through that lobster fast and felt like professional lobster eaters by the time we finished. My husband and I actually split the lobster dinner... the lobster itself was huge and supplied an ample amount of lobster meat. The dinner also came with corn on the cob, cole slaw and homemade potato chips, and I ordered a garden salad. For our 3rd night in Bar Harbor and second time eating here, I tried their house special, a lobster roll which had warm lobster tossed in a lemon-garlic aioli. Soooooo delicious and stuffed with huge lobster pieces. My husband got their warm lobster roll in regular drawn butter, which he also loved. Desserts are ordered from a separate little building on the same grounds as the Lobster Pound. It's all related. They have many different dessert options and lots of ice cream flavors, but we were told (and read about repeatedly) that the thing to get is their warm blueberry pie and to get it a la mode with blueberry ice cream. IYKYK. We split an order, but I could've eaten the whole thing myself. Not gonna lie. To say that it was amazing is an insult, lol. I don't actually know a word in the English language to describe how fabulous it was. Wowwwwwww. Just WOW. You can be sure we got the same dessert the second night we came here. : ) And then I think about life back home where we have NONE of this to avail ourselves to. This is a lobster tourist trap. Let's not kid ourselves. It is what it is. But as there is little else around in this sleepy neck of the woods, and you probably just finished a nice day of laborious hiking, you're hungry and willing to pay a bit extra. For all these reasons, this place is hopping. - buy beer at the window - order lobster at a different line - watch the lobsters get boiled in bulk. Be prepared to SHELL out the $$$! There is an interesting operations going on with the lobster staff. One big muscled man boils and pulls out multiple large bucket colanders worth of lobsters, all in a queue. Then the next 2 men shell the lobster with very impressive efficiency. We wondered how much $$ was in each bucket. For the very low overhead -- I wasn't joking about being in the woods, there isn't even a building, it's just outdoor picnic tables, throw away paper plates, no napkins so use paper towels -- the profit margin must be insane. At minimum, they have a clean indoors bathroom so that your hands are not smelling of shellfish on the hour long drive home. That was good. Food was ok. - these are small lobsters. Butter dip was thin. Hot dog bread not toasted - fish was fine - fries better than chips - The most disappointing was the bread bowl. The bar is so high here in New England. It feels like a sin to not have good chowda. We wanted a more crusty sourdough for the bread too. We would have bought pie, cause 'when in Rome,' but the prices were too steep. My good judgement had us stop there. Went to a bakery instead. The staff is a migratory crew. One lady from Jamaica said she works summers here. Others were from different parts of the world too. Kids played corn hole for a bit. Had to leave when the bugs wanted dinner. Overall, know that most everyone is on vacation and in a great mood, which is a ratings inflater. read more

Rating: 4.5 Came to try this lobster restaurant located close to the bar harbor area. Its a popular lobster restaurant as it was packed with people when we got there. They have a diner area where they take order and inside seating is. There are also Side truck where they sell deserts and back area where there are lots of outside seatings. We got a special lobster roll and lobster dinner, lobster bisque, blueberry lemonade and blueberry cheesecake ice cream. The lobster roll was pretty good. Flavorful and nice and buttery filled with lobsters. Lobster dinner was good and there were large portions of meat but the lobster was tough to crack and flavor was light and not that sweet compared to some i've had in the area. Lobster bisque was tasty and had good chunks of lobster meats. Blueberry lemonade was ok. Blueberry cheesecake was delicious. Service was good. The sitting area was nice and spacious and large. Overall it's a solid lobster place but may be bit overrated and overcrowded. Food was good but quality of lobster may not be the best. Price is pretty average for lobsters. OMG!!! We went twice in a week because this place was so good. Let's start with the pièce de résistance: lobster nachos. Beyond good -- I was enjoying myself immensely when I saw the little place container in the middle, a tomato sauce which was next level good. The lobster dinner, the fish & chips, and the lobster bisque in the sour dough bread bowl were fabulous. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the gluten free bun on the lobster roll, but otherwise wow! Even the homemade potato slices were great. The ice cream in the boat afterwards when you have no space; all I can say is that you'll find a way. The outside has fun lawn games, and there are heaters amongst the picnic tables. However, it was quite chilly the second visit and we opted to sit inside. The servers were all amazing -- fast, charming, and clearly bought into the location. Food was tasty, service could have been much better. We had the haddock sandwich (flakey and generous), special lobster roll with delicious aioli, and bread bowl of a clam chowder (with a kick). We tried to get a table inside for our two groups due to the cold weather and despite being told by the waitress that it was okay to sit, was then told we needed to get up. She also told us that the adjoining large group that put their tables together "were not allowed to do that, they did it when I stepped out of the room." They also missed our order and it was only after 20 minutes of seeing multiple other tables that ordered later than us receive their order, did we manage to find and inform that same waitress who told us "the kitchen said they sent it out, they'll make it again." Overall rounded up for the tasty food. The restaurant also buys supplies from Maine's Own Treat shop (a lovely local store just outside of MDI) for selling in their shop. Got 2 orders of the whole lobster. One was cut for easy opening, one was not. When we brought it to the attention of the outside staff, they said to just crack it. One order had a quarter inch of water in the bottom of the tray. The other order had an ear of corn that had a rotten section. I like the outdoor seating, but the food and service were poor. The blueberry pie and ice cream served from the boat on site was the best we had on the island. So go for that, and get your lobster elsewhere. read more

I assumed all lobster pounds were the same until.... We have been in Maine a few weeks now and my wife and our friend have had their share of lobster rolls but this one is in a different class. Big chunks of lobster mixed with just enough mayo to give it some flavor. Service is counter but fast and efficient . You can eat inside but the back area is what it's about. From an amazing setting in the trees to the almost perfect play list of music, to the staff's constantly cleaning up the area .. just way above normal. Oh.. and I don't eat Maine lobster.... In all the places we have travelled, this is probably one of my favorites. The whole place is a vibe. Love it. You can play corn hole, frisbee golf, buy a t shirt, get ice cream from the boat and eat your lobster "in the woods". The food is fantastic...the lobster roll, the fish tacos, lobster dip. This place is so good, we're going again. We don't generally go to the same place twice on vacation, but when it's this good, you go again. Nothing in "downtown" Bar Harbor touches this place. I realize a lobster joint isnt the best spot for a vegetarian to eat but sometimes we luck out. I loved the vibe of this casual place. Picnic tables, string lights, yard games. Yes! They have a vegetarian taco on the menu! I LOVE tacos! But wait. What? The taco is shredded cabbage and salsa. That's it. Really?? If they added a freaking 79 cent can of black beans to their kitchen and put a scoop in that taco, I would have given them a 5 star review. Instead I wound up with the usual bowl of lettuce and corn on the cob. Husband thought his lobster dinner was very good. We opted for the lobster roll, whole belly clams, salad, lobster bisque, clams chowder, and blueberry pie. Everything was delicious!!! The pie was special...I highly recommend getting it and having it served warm. Everyone working there was super nice and went above and beyond to make a casual dining experience actually pretty special. They have indoor and outdoor seating. A Taco in Maine ? Delicious....all the way. Again no skimping on the lobster meat. Then came the real test.....a virtual dark horse (no they do not serve "horse") .The Ice Cream Boat (which also has a stern full of fresh blueberry pie). All locally made, fresh and large portions. After spending several hours exploring the southwestern area of Acadia, we stopped in for a late lunch - it was around 2 pm. The weather wasn't very nice - cold, damp, on and off showers, so it wasn't surprising that the restaurant wasn't very crowded. The majority of their seating is outdoors - their small dining room probably has about 12 tables. We ordered at the outside counter and then took an open table inside with our order number. Next to the dining room there's a small shop area they have souvenirs & apparel for sale and their lobster tanks. While we were browsing in the shop, awaiting our food to be ready, an employee asked us if we wanted to take a photo holding their largest lobster - how thoughtful of them! Our food came out not long after. I had the house special - the lobster roll was really good with the lemon garlic aioli. My husband got their burger with fries which he said was also very good - large portion. They also had an ice cream boat stand where you could order ice cream or pie - sadly it was too cold that day for us to try. Just outside Bar Harbor is the perfect low key lobster and seafood haven. Be prepared to order from the window, grab a beer from the ice bin, and find a picnic table out back under the tree canopy. The adventure includes the option of playing cornhole, frosty golf, and ring toss. Incredible food and a great atmosphere! The scallops were super fresh and the garlic oil lobster roll was delicious. It's a classic, no-frills shack where you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. (Prices are comparable to other lobster pounds). We were coming into the area and of course we were going to have lobster! On our way to the hotel we passed this place. It looked super cool and ended up being very close. So I decided that was where we were going. My wife was tired so I came and order to go. Everyone was very nice, it sure didn't take long for our order to be ready. This was my first meal of my trip to Bar Harbor and by far the best one I had! We got a half serving of their lobster nachos and I would highly recommend them. There's an incredibly generous amount of finely chopped vegetables sprinkled all over the top which adds so much freshness and brightness to the rich and creamy lobster bits and the cheesy/lobster bisque sauce. The portion sizes are massive so this half serving was more than enough of an appetizer for 4 people. I tried their cold lobster roll and it was a classic Maine-style roll with a very generous amount of lobster spilling out of it. My friends all got the house special lobster roll and were obsessed, so I would probably opt for that if you want to try something a little more unique to this place. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. There's a ton of seating out back and it has a cute backyard feel to it with all the string lights and little games. They'll bring your food out to you and the staff is all so nice. They also serve desserts, but we were far too stuffed to try any of them, but they looked delicious. read more

Most definitely the best lobster roll I've ever had. Bar Harbor Lobster Pound is located right off the road and the parking lot gets quite full, so you may have to circle around if it's a weekend. You order at the front, and they'll give you a number for them to bring your order to. There's a lot of outdoor seating in the back (picnic tables) with games, lights, and heaters as well. We ordered a half serving of the lobster nachos to split between 4 people and everyone got their own lobster roll. The half serving was a good amount, the whole serving is massive and we wouldn't have finished it on top of everything else. The mango salsa was light and was a nice balance against the lobster bisque infused cheese. You should eat the chips quickly though because they don't stay crunchy for long. For my own order, I got the house special lobster that I loved. The bun was soft, they're generous with the lobster amount, and there's a lot of sauce. The chips are solid and it's a really filling meal. Lastly, I ordered the blueberry lemonade which is definitely worth the try when you're there.
