Great lobster pound! Our family had a wonderful time at the bar lobster Pound. We sat outside on picnic tables on the edge of a pine forest. Our waiters brought the food very quickly The clam chowder was delicious: smoky, tasty, not too creamy,, flavored with paprika and pepper. Our entrées were wonderful. The lobster nachos were excellent with a really nice mango topping. The lobster dinner was excellent, the lobster was sweet and juicy, served with corn on the cob and potato chips. The lobster tacos were good. The warm blueberry pie with blueberry ice cream was delicious.
You order outside at window and they deliver to your table. They have a lovely outside dining area with picnic tables and a few games to play. We chose to dine inside with about 8 tables. I ordered the fried clams dinner. It came with French fries and coleslaw. Fries were crunchy and tasty. Was not really thrilled with the clams. My husband ordered the lobster dinner $39. It came with corn, coleslaw and crispy chips. The lobster was delicious. It melted in your mouth. So fresh and cooked to perfection. Totally recommend Bar Harbor Lobster pound.

Stopped by here two days in a row. Everything here is great - the food, the customer service, the vibes, dessert and beer. The lobster roll was packed with perfectly cooked lobster. The clam chowder was creamy and flavorful. The fish and chips were crispy and fresh. The steamed clams were amazing and so was the pie. Whether you sit inside or outside, you are bound to get top notch service.
This review is for the ice cream boat only. Stopped by for a scoop of blueberry ice cream (which I found out is from Udderly Heaven) and a slice of blueberry pie. Both were very delicious. Pie had a good amount of blueberries. They have a lot out front and many tables outside back but could see it getting packed during peak season/peak times.
This is such a cute spot a little out of bar harbor. With adorable string lights outside, a cute dessert boat to order from, picnic tables with fire towers all around the setting is super fun. There was a long line to order but it went quickly. We both got a lobster roll with fries and cole slaw. I loved the garlic aioli, but it wasn't the most tender lobster we had on the trip. Also, it's kind of sad they have a tonnnn of lobsters in little glass aquariums and I don't need to see what I'm eating personally. We finished the night with blueberry pie with a scoop of blueberry ice cream which was absolutely divine and we devoured it! This is a great option in the area

Outdoor seating with string bulb lighting and fun music at a volume in which you could still hear people at your table without needing to yell at one another. We visited on a Monday evening and it was already super busy at 5:30pm. We ordered the twin lobster and an extra side of coleslaw. The serving size was just right and the food was prepared perfectly. Afterwards, we splurged and shared a blueberry pie. Yummy: Just a simple thin, flaky crust and blueberries. It was all delicious!
Rating: 4.5 Came to try this lobster restaurant located close to the bar harbor area. Its a popular lobster restaurant as it was packed with people when we got there. They have a diner area where they take order and inside seating is. There are also Side truck where they sell deserts and back area where there are lots of outside seatings. We got a special lobster roll and lobster dinner, lobster bisque, blueberry lemonade and blueberry cheesecake ice cream. The lobster roll was pretty good. Flavorful and nice and buttery filled with lobsters. Lobster dinner was good and there were large portions of meat but the lobster was tough to crack and flavor was light and not that sweet compared to some i've had in the area. Lobster bisque was tasty and had good chunks of lobster meats. Blueberry lemonade was ok. Blueberry cheesecake was delicious. Service was good. The sitting area was nice and spacious and large. Overall it's a solid lobster place but may be bit overrated and overcrowded. Food was good but quality of lobster may not be the best. Price is pretty average for lobsters. Not bad but there are better options around.
This is a lobster tourist trap. Let's not kid ourselves. It is what it is. But as there is little else around in this sleepy neck of the woods, and you probably just finished a nice day of laborious hiking, you're hungry and willing to pay a bit extra. For all these reasons, this place is hopping. - buy beer at the window - order lobster at a different line - watch the lobsters get boiled in bulk. Be prepared to SHELL out the $$$! There is an interesting operations going on with the lobster staff. One big muscled man boils and pulls out multiple large bucket colanders worth of lobsters, all in a queue. Then the next 2 men shell the lobster with very impressive efficiency. We wondered how much $$ was in each bucket. For the very low overhead -- I wasn't joking about being in the woods, there isn't even a building, it's just outdoor picnic tables, throw away paper plates, no napkins so use paper towels -- the profit margin must be insane. At minimum, they have a clean indoors bathroom so that your hands are not smelling of shellfish on the hour long drive home. That was good. Food was ok. - these are small lobsters. Butter dip was thin. Hot dog bread not toasted - fish was fine - fries better than chips - The most disappointing was the bread bowl. The bar is so high here in New England. It feels like a sin to not have good chowda. We wanted a more crusty sourdough for the bread too. We would have bought pie, cause 'when in Rome,' but the prices were too steep. My good judgement had us stop there. Went to a bakery instead. The staff is a migratory crew. One lady from Jamaica said she works summers here. Others were from different parts of the world too. Kids played corn hole for a bit. Had to leave when the bugs wanted dinner. Overall, know that most everyone is on vacation and in a great mood, which is a ratings inflater.
THE spot in Bar Harbor to visit for lobster. Two words - lobster nachos - do not leave without these. The fresh pepper, tomatoes, and mango that top the tortilla chips with a slight drizzle of cheese and generous chunks of lobster are worth a trip to Bar Harbor. Certainly the highlight of our meal, and trip's meals. We also ordered the Lobster dinner, which was fun to break apart and enjoy. Seating outside on picnic tables is lovely and pleasant. After lunch we played a round of corn hole and connect four. We plan to come back for lunch tomorrow!
This place has everything one could need! Food, drinks and an ice cream boat. Everything we ordered was wonderful and the atmosphere was so much fun! It's a family friendly spot but also a great place to hang with friends.
As neither my wife nor I are seafood fans, we stopped in for a slice of blueberry pie and ice cream. It was a nice way to start our vacation to Bar Harbor.
Along the road from Bar Harbor to Ellsworth. Was looking forward to this because of all the good reviews but left somewhat disappointed. The prices are decent and seemed like a good place to grab dinner after watching the sunset in Acadia National Park on the way back to our hotel in Ellsworth. My blueberry lemonade tasted like it was made from hose water, the water they used in the lemonade had an odd taste. It was nice they put fresh Maine blueberries on top. I ordered the 1.5-2 lb lobster dinner. It looked fantastic and the lobster looked huge. Oddly, when cracking into it, the lobster was all shrunken and wet/rubbery. This was mid September, and I ate lobsters at numerous other places and they were very full, so this wasn't due to the time of year/molting. Also the lobster wasn't hot, it was lukewarm on the inside. I almost wonder if the lobster wasn't cooked all the way through as the claws had a very weird mushy consistency. The chips were good and the corn was good. The lobster was a disappointment. The service was a bit rough, it appears this place is run by Haitians who are very noisy and rambunctious. They were yelling walking back forth between serving the food and cleaning tables, it was chaotic and not the greatest dining experience. They forgot my blueberry lemonade and at first told me to go back to the window to get it myself but then another guy (maybe a manager) went to get it. Overall a disappointing experience.

Lobster roll (house special) was delicious and PACKED with lobster; sauce was light and perfect. Chips were fresh but a little thick to my taste. Outdoor seating area with string lights on the trees, music - just wonderful. Service was impressively fast. Staff kept tables clean quickly. read more

OMG!!! We went twice in a week because this place was so good. Let's start with the pièce de résistance: lobster nachos. Beyond good -- I was enjoying myself immensely when I saw the little place container in the middle, a tomato sauce which was next level good. The lobster dinner, the fish & chips, and the lobster bisque in the sour dough bread bowl were fabulous. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the gluten free bun on the lobster roll, but otherwise wow! Even the homemade potato slices were great. The ice cream in the boat afterwards when you have no space; all I can say is that you'll find a way. The outside has fun lawn games, and there are heaters amongst the picnic tables. However, it was quite chilly the second visit and we opted to sit inside. The servers were all amazing -- fast, charming, and clearly bought into the location. And I bought their zip up sweatshirt the second time because I want to remember this place! read more

Everybody knows about this place... good reason for that. It's EXCELLENT. But before I continue, Bar Harbor Lobster POUND is NOT to be confused with Bar Harbor Lobster COMPANY. I am writing about the POUND, located on the outskirts of Bar Harbor on the main road into or out of Bar Harbor. The POUND is a very spacious "compound" with lots and lots of outdoor picnic tables (and a small indoors dining area as well) to dine on all things lobster. There's even some games for people to play (like cornhole). It's so relaxing and fun, and we even shared our picnic table with another couple. Everyone is happy and friendly. We loved the entire experience so much that we had dinner two of the three nights in Bar Harbor ! Talk about a well-oiled machine, this operation probably handles thousands of diners daily. The lines are always long but move quickly. The tables are always full, yet there's always a seat to be found. You place your order, and they bring the food... quickly. For our first night in Bar Harbor and at this place, we just had to try the steamed lobster dinner, and at first, we just sat there staring at the gorgeous red lobster. We didn't know what to do with it and quickly realized we had NO idea how to eat a lobster !! The owner saw us staring and kindly came over to give us instructions. At first, we felt like idiots, but she immediately put us at ease, and we realized that most people who come through there are probably just like us. Anyway, she was a great teacher because we ripped through that lobster fast and felt like professional lobster eaters by the time we finished. My husband and I actually split the lobster dinner... the lobster itself was huge and supplied an ample amount of lobster meat. The dinner also came with corn on the cob, cole slaw and homemade potato chips, and I ordered a garden salad. For our 3rd night in Bar Harbor and second time eating here, I tried their house special, a lobster roll which had warm lobster tossed in a lemon-garlic aioli. Soooooo delicious and stuffed with huge lobster pieces. My husband got their warm lobster roll in regular drawn butter, which he also loved. Desserts are ordered from a separate little building on the same grounds as the Lobster Pound. It's all related. They have many different dessert options and lots of ice cream flavors, but we were told (and read about repeatedly) that the thing to get is their warm blueberry pie and to get it a la mode with blueberry ice cream. IYKYK. We split an order, but I could've eaten the whole thing myself. Not gonna lie. To say that it was amazing is an insult, lol. I don't actually know a word in the English language to describe how fabulous it was. Wowwwwwww. Just WOW. You can be sure we got the same dessert the second night we came here. : ) And then I think about life back home where we have NONE of this to avail ourselves to. It makes me sad, yes, but I'm so grateful because I at least had the opportunity to experience this place... not once... but twice. If you're ever in Bar Harbor, make sure you go here. The wild Maine blueberry ice cream was so good we went twice on our trip! They are VERY generous with their scoops, one scoop was more like two, and two scoops was more like a pint! Quick service and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend! read more

Staff is amazing! They are busy but they keep the lines moving and they go out of their way to make sure you are having a good time. Had the lobster boil, lobster bisque and blue berry margaritas ended with blueberry ice cream. Definitely recommend. Back picnic table are under strings of lights is very nice too. read more

Not what I expected...Completely exceeded my expectations! Clams, lobster roll, & lobster bisque were absolutely amazing The service was great too. From the counter to the folks cleaning the tables & turning the heater on to checking in on us to make sure we were good. The seating area was so sweet & made the whole experience truly memorable. read more
We had an awesome experience! The lobster was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The outdoor seating area was a great place to relax, with fun yard games that made the visit even better. They also have a full bar with a nice selection of drinks, making it a perfect spot to hang out with friends or family. I love their house special lobster roll which has a lemon garlic aioli and is served warmed (I actually had this twice while visiting Acadia National Park for a week it is that yummy). Ok, here is the deal. After eating 6 lobster rolls in the last 14 days from different establishments along the Maine coast I can now say that the hot lobster roll at Bar Harbor Lobster Pound takes the number 1 spot. A hardy portion of delicious, sweet lobster pieces on a toasted roll served with house made chips, lemon wedge, and melted butter. The taste of this lobster was just superior to the others. Counter service to order with counter bar service in the back with friendly staff. Large, shaded area with many picnic tables to sit at. read more
In all the places we have travelled, this is probably one of my favorites. The whole place is a vibe. Love it. You can play corn hole, frisbee golf, buy a t shirt, get ice cream from the boat and eat your lobster "in the woods". The food is fantastic...the lobster roll, the fish tacos, lobster dip. This place is so good, we're going again. We don't generally go to the same place twice on vacation, but when it's this good, you go again. Nothing in "downtown" Bar Harbor touches this place. I assumed all lobster pounds were the same until.... We have been in Maine a few weeks now and my wife and our friend have had their share of lobster rolls but this one is in a different class. Big chunks of lobster mixed with just enough mayo to give it some flavor. Service is counter but fast and efficient . You can eat inside but the back area is what it's about. From an amazing setting in the trees to the almost perfect play list of music, to the staff's constantly cleaning up the area .. just way above normal. Oh.. and I don't eat Maine lobster.... The fish tacos were probably the best I have had. Great place and worth the wait or just go early and enjoy a smaller crowd for linner ! read more

So good!! This was our first stop for a lobster roll and it did not disappoint. Such a cute outdoor dining space with plenty of seating and heaters. You order your food outside and dine in. We had the classic lobster roll and split a warm blueberry pie with a scoop of vanilla which was excellent. We loved it so much we came back twice during our visit. read more

Planning a trip in May. Are all the restaurants open in May? Is lobster plentiful in May? Should we maybe change our dates?
Hi Shelly! There are plenty of hard shell lobsters in May but most restaurants do not open until Memorial Day weekend. If you want lots of options, I would wait until memorial day weekend to travel to bar harbor, at the earliest.
