Nowhere is this spirit more alive than in Aaron and Tam - the captains of this ship - and all the instructors across Pica Pau's deep and diverse weekly schedule. In the striking classes you will find no better coach than Ulysses and no better group of training partners. There is space for everyone of every skill level here. Everyone has the same expectation - train hard, be kind. BJJ is a challenge I am continuing to work at, but what has never been a challenge is feeling like I didn't belong. My oldest daughter had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a blue belt in Hopkido. One of my biggest fears starting there was being told we needed to forget everything we already knew. They'll bring you to the mat and most likely introduce you to someone they trust to help guide you through your first class. Unlike other martial arts schools, they do not have students teaching classes. They teach all the classes. Not what I expected…read more Hours are wrong on Yelp, it's only open about 3-4 hours in the AM and sometimes a few at night. My 2nd shift work schedule meant I'd have to lose sleep to train here. For Boxing specifically, there's 3 1 hour classes per week, and it didn't seem like anything more involved than "calling out combinations" or sometimes a footwork drill. This is fine as a boxing workout but you can do that at any gym with a heavy bag for less than the $120/month here. Place is varying degrees of dirty/smelly, with no running/potable water, hope you brought your own. Gloves/equipment strewn all about the floor. You'll feel like you immediately want to wash everything you were wearing in case it picked up too much dust in there. If your availability matches up to theirs and you're interested in MMA/BJJ, maybe it's a 3 star. But it's a fitness gym, not a training gym. To learn boxing, there's other options.
