I will return when my teaching schedule is more realistic. That being said, I have to leave a few parting words. Coach Dennis (who overseas 3DMMA Hanover Park), and all of his coaches, were accomodating, and downright kind. I felt inspired (I am 55 years old...) though I was not physically not up to snuff with these athletes. That being said, I was supported 100%, and given privy to some of the most comprehensive (and realistic) martial arts I have ever experienced, and supported in a controlled pace that challenged me, but permitted me a sense of growth. I respect all the arts, but for the sake of common sense self-defense applications, my time in the Muay Thai part of the program was incomparable. Kata and tradition are wonderful - alleged specialty martial arts with exotic titles are intriguing. I have been there - and done that, as they say. However, this round, my goal was to learn how to improve my physical fitness (and count all the gaps in my cardio), as well as learn how to work on effective self defense skills. At 3DMMA, I was able to engage in a combination of boxing and kicking drills that have been honed in Thailand's backyard arenas. Learning how to kick with more power than anything any art ever taught me - was amazing. The fact that the coaches could so easily improve my lacking skills, my humbling. Focusing on proper movement (head included), as well as developing striking skills, was off the charts eye-opening. I feel as if I have been blind in every other art I have pursued. And again, while I have respect for those arts, I feel it is a shame it took me so many years to realize what I was lacking. Coach Dennis and his team never once overwhelmed me. I never felt out of place. They supported me every step of the way. You can be a total beginner (where I was at this juncture in life), a 3rd degree in whatever belt system you follow, or a hand to hand specialist in an art that claims elite, military viability. But, if your goal is physical fitness, and a growing awareness of what the human body can accomplish in a martial setting, and, you are looking for something beyond Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga, and other similar forms of martial arts, then I humbly suggest a school that gets "right to it." This was the most no-nonsense program I have ever been a part of. On a side note, I recall turning at one point, sucking in air, but feeling driven and invigorated, stating to Coach Dennis, "It's crazy that I'm here at age 55." He wisely replied with, "It would be crazy not to be here at 55." Thank you again, Coach Dennis and staff, You are all truly champions.

I would not recommend this place. My nephew was in the kid's class and the instructor Luiz is great! They only reason why I don't recommend this place is the staff around the instructor, one of the higher belts, a purple belt kept hitting on me and looking at my cleavage! This is a place that I would not recommend to women who want to just train and be left alone! This purple belt with a beard and funny ears when he talked to me he made it sound like he is a co-owner and instructor of this place. While I waited for my HUSBAND to pick me up, I got to see a bit of the adult class, and this guy was the one "rolling" with women. Definitely I would not recommend this place because of the lack of professionalism of the staff! If you are the co-owner and instructor you should be professional and not just flirt with women. While talking to some of the other moms, they said the same thing, this guy seems desperate to get female attention. Talking to my sister, she experienced the same and it was decided to find other place for my nephew to train. He even dated some women in the gym and has asked out to several of the moms out and reached out to them by Facebook! Apparently he was not even allowed to drive for years, and who knows what else...but he is teaching a class? so he claims. He was acting like he owned the place. Luiz is great, but his staff isn't! My nephew no longer goes there, I wouldn't attend any of the women self-defense seminars they have because he is always there. I continue to do Yoga next door, everyone over there is so professional and are not hitting on you. If you do Yoga next door, he will reach out to you through Facebook! It is unreal. I just wish Luiz would choose who he hires because experiences like mine would just drive customers away. I don't know about you but I don't want to be in a place where there is a guy that is flirting with every women! So uncomfortable, unprofessional. I hope Luiz chooses better who is running his business, because they are leaving a bad impression. read more

My father recently passed away after which I gained a lot of weight blood pressure took off and I was very depressed. Jiu jitsu is something I have been wanting to try for years but always made excuses not to pursue. After his death I realized how quick life is passing us by and decided to pursue jiu jitsu. After a friends recommendation I walked into LCCT - Schaumburg and was hooked. I was intimidated at first but Luiz is amazing. I'm 46 years old and was feeling maybe I was to old but not anymore. He immediately made me feel like I was part of the family and I could do whatever I set my mind to in class. Not only Luiz but everyone else has been so supportive and helpful. I'm obviously a beginner but that never stops the higher belts from going out of there way to help me whenever I need. It's amazing because so many world champions and high ranked athletes walk into his class and have never made me feel out of place. It's a very serious atmosphere but we still have many laughs. Needless to say I'm in a much better place physically and mentally now and will be lifetime jiu jitsu practitioner. read more

Schaumburg LCCT's owners Luiz Claudio Augusto, Raphella Augusto, Thiago Veiga of Barrington LCCT, Coaches and company are extremely welcoming and very professional with all. No one who is an honest person that comes to this gym can honestly say otherwise. Luiz and Thiago are brothers that have many, many years of training under the Rickson Gracie name. It is a joke that anyone would try to say anything negative about this humble family and how they run their passion/business. I wouldn't listen to anything a Tim M. has to say about a school since he can't seem to not get his family kicked out of gym after gym. People like him think because they can type literately that it excuses their disgraceful and distasteful behavior. It is unfortunate that children of an ignorant parent as he are doomed because of their parent. I root for children of parent(s) like this to succeed in spite of their parent(s) sad behavior. LCCT Schaumburg is the best Jiu Jitsu academy in the Midwest. I used to train at a different gym for almost two years and I have to admit that nothing compares to this place. It is everything I was looking for in a BJJ academy including clean facility with plenty of mat space, structured curriculum, experienced dedicated coach. Luiz Claudio is an incredible professor, mentor, team leader and a friend. He cares about every single one of his students and personally calls if you do not show up to classes because of an injury or any other reason. Luiz fires up the whole team with his enthusiasm and passion for the art of Jiu Jitsu and most of the times the classes last over two hours because nobody wants to leave. If you want to train with the best you need to come to LCCT BJJ and train with Luiz. My boys have been training here for 2 + years and have more katana's and metals then they have space for in their rooms from winning at competitions. Luiz makes it fun for the kids and teaches them to love and respect others. He's so passionate about Jiu Jitsu and it shows when he's teaching. My youngest son and I also train Capoeira here. Great school! Came in as a beginner last year with no experience in any martial art, but with Luiz's patience and experience I can feel how quickly my game has been improving. They way Luiz breaks down moves is incredible, gives meaning to every detail. LCCT is a fantastic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy. Professor Claudio has unreal jiu jitsu and was taught under Master Rickson Gracie himself. The gym has a very good vibe and everyone there is friendly and willing to help improve your jiu jitsu. I have only trained in this gym for about a year and I am doing things that I did not think I could ever do. Professor Claudio also teaches many UFC fighters such as the legends Ben Rothwell and Julianna Peña. I highly recommend this gym to everybody. read more

I loved coming here as a beginner woman in Jiu jitsu. I was really nervous when I started there but Luiz puts the techniques in such a way that it is easy to learn and not complicated. He is also very patient. The classes were not intimidating at all and the people that you roll with are so helpful. They only want you to get better along with them. Before joining, I was in poor health after major surgery and since then, my fitness levels have increased greatly. Judo is like physical chess. It is important to consider the learning environment of a martial arts club. Barrington Judo Club's coaches are in their fifties and there are 6 or 7 black belts. Some of them have competed at the National levels in their countries (France, Mexico...). They are mature and have a fatherly attitude towards the students. Other martial arts clubs that have just one teacher can become abusive as he is all powerful. Some MMA/BJJ clubs have a tough guy attitude and the instructor injures his pupils to show his displeasure. I am glad Barrington Judo Club is not like those clubs. There are thankfully no contracts. Many other clubs require an annual contract. My son and I highly recommend this club for you to learn judo.

I joined because it was immediately clear that the mantra-mission statement of "Train Hard, Be Kind" is fostered in and is alive in every single person at this gym and I wanted very much to be a part of it. Nowhere is this spirit more alive than in Aaron and Tam - the captains of this ship - and all the instructors across Pica Pau's deep and diverse weekly schedule. In the striking classes you will find no better coach than Ulysses and no better group of training partners. There is space for everyone of every skill level here. Everyone has the same expectation - train hard, be kind. BJJ is a challenge I am continuing to work at, but what has never been a challenge is feeling like I didn't belong. I've never seen a single person hesitate to help anyone who needs it. I have never seen, or even heard gossip of, the kinds of toxicity that multiple YouTube videos will tell you exists across the vast expanse of jiu jitsu gyms. The expectation and mission of "Train Hard, Be Kind" could not describe the culture better and it's infused in everything about Pica Pau. Alex, the owner, introduced himself personally, was genuinely kind, and made me feel comfortable right away. The instruction has been exceptional. The technical details are exactly what I was looking for, especially since I wanted to improve my bottom game. Another huge highlight has been the number of women who train here, which is something I haven't experienced at past academies. It's been refreshing to be part of such an inclusive environment.
