This place is a great option if you're looking for an omakase meal at home. The presentation is and every bite was heavenly. This was delivered to my condo before there was a store front. Highly recommend.

** Review only on walk in visit, no food quality tasted ** Walked by to check out this cute little sushi 'supermarket' and take out place. Inside is nicely designed, spacious and clean. There is no dine in option available. There were a lot of employees and sushi chef working at the moment. According to the kind gentleman, the fridge is like a supermarket where you can pick up what you want to purchase (eg. Salmon sashmi whole piece, yuzu, wasabi root etc). He also mentioned that you can have the chef cut for you if needed. They also offer too quality a la carte sushi options, rolls and party trays.

Cho San Sushi is a new sushi establishment on Woodbine, in the same plaza as Cafe n One. Chef Zhang, former sushi chef of Zen Sushi (a high end premium sushi restaurant) became well known over the pandemic for making premium omakase sushi boxes ordered via Instagram. With the popularity of the online business, Cho San now has a physical space with beautiful wooden interiors. Fridges with a large selection of fish imported from Japan line one wall of the space. You can order sushi off their menu or select sashimi grade fish by weight from the fridge, and watch as they prepare your food behind the plexiglass enclosed, open concept sushi prep counter. Maki options are more limited than other sushi places. You won't find Dragon Rolls or Rainbow Rolls here. Unique to Cho San is that they offer is a premium chirashi box and omakase takeout box ($100 each). Although steep in price for a takeout order, this includes otoro and similar premium fish. We selected a ready made sashimi tray ($28) from the fridge and ordered a spider salmon roll ($8; which was probably meant to read Spicy salmon roll as there wasn't soft shell crab as one would expect in a spider roll). The sashimi was really really fresh! The scallop and shrimp were deliciously sweet. The spicy salmon roll was made with what looked like brown rice, but more likely it was seasoned. As such it didn't hold together as well and grains of rice fell off the maki as we picked pieces up from the tray. For you uni lovers, they have a great selection of uni from Japan, Vancouver and Boston. Their soy sauce comes in cute little bottles rather than packets. It is really exciting to have another high quality place to buy fresh, high quality sashimi in Markham (that is open throughout the week). We will definitely come back!

Ordered from cho san the omakase sets in the beginning of the pandemic when he did online orders and personally delivered it. Happy to see that his business flourished and now have an offical store front - pretty amazing. Take out centric business. A large selection of different sashimi available for walk ins and some precut sashimi platters as well. They were really busy with preorders already so i wasn't able to order the sushi/temaki/rolls offered on their menu. I walked away with a 15 piece sashimi set for $30. Price did seem relatively steep however after eating it i could really taste the difference in quality. Definitely high quality fresh fish. Some pieces were so fatty and the natural oils of the fish were amazing.

This Japanese cuisine offers delicious and authentic Japanese sushi. We love ordering their chirashi and omakase sushi boxes. Chirashi sushi is typically a bright and colourful dish, with a rice base and a variety of toppings. This chirashi box consisted of torched otoro, otoro, tuna, shrimp, scallop, ikura and Japanese uni. We found all the fish super fresh and delicious. Our favourite part would definitely have the be the Japanese uni! It was creamy, buttery and rich in texture. The rice to fish ratio was also just enough, we found that we didn't have more of one thing over the other. Omakase sushi is what the chef recommends, and is a bit arbitrary depending on the place. Our omakase sushi box was composed of 15 different kinds of assorted nigiri and 1 hand roll. The ingredients are the finest available, and the presentation was elegant and artistic. We didn't quite know what each nigiri roll was, but we still found each one super fresh! As for the hand roll, we didn't find anything special, but liked how the seaweed was separated so that it wouldn't get soggy. Overall, we would come back and order these boxes again on special occasions as we did find the items a little pricey. We appreciated how they presented the food with an aesthetic, and how they packaged the items in cute wooden look alike styrofoam boxes.

I had seen a lot of Cho San Sushi on IG but never ordered, and only tried it once they opened their physical location. I haven't tried the omakase box that many people have raved about. This review is instead for just the takeout sashimi that we picked from the fridge and had them slice for us. The store is nice and big with different options - you can just shop the selection of sashimi from the fridge or order from their menu which has the signature omakase box and chirashi. I thought the sashimi was fresh and good quality, but did not feel it was any better than Taro's Fish which is the one I buy from more frequently. I will be back to try the omakase sushi but for just sashimi I will probably stick to Taro's Fish.

Service: The person on the phone recommends placing orders the day before for pickup! We tried to go on Friday but orders were full. The next day, we called at around 2:30 to place an order for 6:30 pick up but they were full for that time. So instead, we decided to order right away for lunch. We picked up the order at around 3 but when we got home, we realized we were missing our Toro Tuna Belly order. We called and they apologized and asked if we could come back, which we did. This situation was a bit frustrating because even though the restaurant was only around 10 minutes away, by the time we came back from getting the missing order 20 minutes later, the seaweed for what we previously received was soggy. However, they did give us an extra piece of Tuna sushi, which was nice of them. Food: Uni Very fresh! No fishy flavour at ALL Toro Tuna Belly SO GOOD, it was very fatty but doesn't leave a greasy feeling in your mouth Ikura Salmonroe Delicious! Very flavourful and not too salty, with no fishy flavour or sliminess I also got the Sake Salmon, Hotate Scallop, Spicy Salmon Roll and Tekka Maki which were good as well. The rice is seasoned in the rolls and sushi which was unique and yummy in the rolls. But I didn't particularly like the rice that seasoned in the sushi. I thought it was too distracting from the flavour of the seafood. Overall: For this price point, I would expect them to ensure they've double check their orders before wrapping it up. But I did appreciate that they gave us an extra piece of sushi. The food was great though, very good quality and worth the price for the freshness of their ingredients. The presentation is beautiful, it comes in a wooden box which is wrapped up like traditional Japanese lunch boxes. I will come back again and try the Omakase to get a bit of everything.

IYKYK! Cho San was a great sushi alternative during the pandemic. Thank god for my foodie fam for helping me discover this place. I personally prefer their chirashi over their omakase boxes tbh. I like how they haven't changed their pricing even after COVID and inflation. For $100 you can get either the chirashi or omakase. The Chirashi has bits of torched tuna, toro, ikura, scallop and uni all served on a bed of seasoned sushi rice. Def my favorite "to-go" sushi spot in Toronto.

We need a appetizer tonight, so stop by because of the good review but found it very disappointing. The sushi rice are not tranditional style. Its yellow color (check on the picture) with strong vinegar taste, the sushi rice are falling apart on both sushi and maki roll. The scallops taste fresh but again, the sushi rice are come in crumbly. Paid $50 for sushi express quality. Won't go back.

This place looks quite new and seems they are focusing on take out. The shop looks clean and folks are friendly. This is a good place to buy sushi take out and/or also ingredients if u want to make your own sashimi dinner. You can order from their regular menu just like how you would expect from a restaurant and u can do take out. Or you can select the fish/seafood from the big fridge, like a fish market ... but You can ask them to cut the sashimi fish for you in pieces with no extra charges. But remember they only cut for you so don't forget to buy the wasabi/ginger and soy sauce if u don't have any of those at home. You dont want to leave the place and go home with the sashimi but with no wasabi/ginger/soy. If you order items from the menu, it will come with things like wasabi and soy sauce, just remember to ask for it if they are busy, they sometime may forgot. The fish are fresh and worth the money... If u wanna go fancy, they have the options too for omakase sushi and party tray take out from the menu... other reviewers has shown pics for those. It's a good place and for sure will visit again!

Ordered an omakase (omakase means blind menu) sushi box! It was so good! Every single piece of fish was so fresh. The sushi box contained one maki. Even the seaweed was so crunchy and yet it melt in your mouth. The rice was not ordinary white sushi rice. The quality of every single item was so fresh. Even the wasabi tasted like the fresh and real one. Can't really describe it. One really has to try it. The price is a bit on the higher end but the quality of food is on the upper end. Highly recommended!

Heard of rumours that the owner used to work at zen and it was also mentioned in the Chinese newspaper. I decided to give it a try. The store looks nice and the fish is on the pricy side. Their sea urchin (uni) are over $100 for a tray. Seems to be more $$ than its competitors. On my first visit I tried their pre packed sashimi platter. It looks nice and the price seems to be reasonable so I bought it home and had it with my parents. (We love Japanese food so much even before we came to Canada.) as expected the sashimi was kinda small and thin. That's okay as their price is on the higher end. However, per my parents feedback, the fish was not fish and my mom was not feeling well after eating certain fish. Since that was the pre packed tray, I decided to give it another try by ordering the omakase sushi which costs $100. It looks decent after they placed it in the box and this time my mom said the fish is somehow better, which is the only up-side. If I did not witness how they make this omakase sushi, I would give this a 3.5 rating. I think some restaurants they may price their omakase on avg @100-150. So imo this one is not cheap for sure. Nonetheless, I did not expect them to "pre-slice/cut" the fish to make the sushi. From what I saw, the chef took a container out and the fish was already sliced. So he was just getting some sushi rice and put the fish on top and then placed them in the box. Another thing to note is their hygienic issue. I think other places may be like this too but he used the same cloth that he cleaned his hand with to wipe the inside of box. He dripped some unagi sauce on the hand roll and certain part of the box. So he took some sushi out and then used that cloth to wipe it. And then he also used the same cloth to clean some other stuff and table too. I just felt kinda gross but I had already paid and ... Overall I am not sure if I will go back again. Maybe if I really crave for some sashimi and do not want to go to TaroFish. I may just go get some raw fish from them.

I got an omakase and a chirachi and was disappointed as the fish was precut before assembled and dry. Wasn't fresh as others had described.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!
