Jerry came back with a more efficient unit, with a higher output (3 ton vs. 2.5 ton), made by a company with a better reputation for quality (I consulted a friend that owns an hvac company in another state) for almost $3,000 less than the other company ($5,600 vs. $8,500). He also re-worked some of the ducting to improve the airflow and the temperature in our master bedroom, which wasn't included in the $8,500 quote. My wife went into labor just a few days before he was scheduled to install the unit, and due to those expenses I had to wait for an out-of-town check to clear the bank before I could pay him. I called to re-schedule the installation, but he wouldn't let me. He installed the unit with no deposit or anything, and came back the next week to pick up his check. I can't recommend Walker Service enough, it's a small business with amazing service.

The people who come to your home are very nice and helpful, so I don't…read morewant to say anything bad about them, but we are finding numerous problems with their installations and the main office wouldn't return my calls to fix any of the problems they caused. Last fall they billed me for checking that our heat pump was fixed, but turns out they hadn't even touched it, so we plowed through all our oil in the backup furnace. Being an old summer home, we aren't there in the winter, and with freezing temperatures back to back, we are incredibly lucky that I randomly had to go to the island in January for a memorial and nothing had burst yet -- must have run out right before I got there because the caretaker was checking a couple times a month that the heat was on, but didn't think to check the level of the oil since it had recently been filled. When I asked them to go fix the heat pump, they told me it would cost $250 just to go to the house, even though I had supposedly already paid them to fix it. I waited over a week to get a call back. And then when I tried calling again, no one would pick up. I tried calling numerous times because no one had returned my messages, but no one would pick up the phone. My caretaker personally went into the office to see what was going on, and they told him that they had so many clients they "didn't need my business". After all this, I even wrote a letter of apology for calling so many times (they have a voicemail menu, so I went through the menu twice, not realizing that every time I called it rang throughout the entire office, which yes, made me seem like a crazy lady for calling so many times at once...if it was that annoying, why didn't someone just answer??!! ) but I never heard back about anything. Thousands of dollars later, I am still having to get other people to fix their mistakes - pipes not cut long enough at joints and leaking under the house, sinks installed incorrectly with pipes also cut too short at joints so leaking in the walls, etc. When we first had them install the plumbing system, they took away all the old copper pipes and left us with a pile of trash to clean up on our own. I should have known then how bad they are. I know I am writing this review a year after they dropped me, but I am just finding ANOTHER one of their mistakes that is going to cost me another thousand dollars to fix. If they had decent customer care, I wouldn't be so angry about all this. Warning to all of you out there with summer homes -- don't use Nelson Mechanical if you want to sleep well at night.
