I was driving through Gardnerville and found this quaint Chocolate Shop. The store was clean and inviting. Harvey and Lynn, the owners, were friendly and helpful. They offered samples. There was a vast variety of decadent candies and cookies. They also had a large variety of sugar-free Chocolates. They had cookies for the Presidential Inauguration, with pictures of President Trump and Vice President Vance. They were so cool. I highly recommend this candy shop. read more

I had a mishap on my last visit and was over charged. Lynn the store owner reached out to me make it right. She offered me a check for the difference or items from her store worth the value and she would ship it to me. Lynn and her team are amazing! I was looking for Tahoe-shaped cookies for favors for my wedding, and I was so excited when I came across the Chocolate Shoppe online. Lynn was able to personalize the label with our wedding info and used purple ribbon to match our wedding colors. The cookies were huge! I think they were about 5 inches tall and almost 3 inches wide. The sugar cookie is coated in chocolate. In my opinion, the cookie is not too sweet for a sugar cookie. It is so big that it took me at least 2 or 3 days to finish 1 cookie. This is a great local store with an amazing array of chocolates and treats sold singularly, by the pound and also presented in gift baskets. The folks that work there are exceedingly nice and helpful and always offer a free treat when you walk in the door. They have everything you can think of and was super surprised to find a large selection of sugar free chocolate options as well! We ended up buying a whole bag of stuff and they do custom orders and have awesome molds to make chocolate cowboy boots etc! You are the sweetest to me and my friends today with a sample of your different chocolate specialities . I alone got Almond Roka , Peppermint Pattie's and lemon ones, Bordeoux chocolate. If you catch one of their after holiday sales you can try a big variety of stuff and not break your bank! My husband and I discovered Chocolate Shoppe while looking for gasoline. It was a Sunday and they were closed. However, since I am a chocoholic, we returned on Monday. Oh wow!!!!! So glad we did. This is one of the best chocolate experiences we have ever had. We were treated to 4 samples and the staff were very welcoming but not pushy. We walked out of there with loads of a variety of chocolates. Wait - the review doesn't end there! A couple of days later we were in Reno heading toward Vegas when we decided to go back! We really wanted to get some of the Bordeaux sauce to try with a cake. The staff gave us more samples. And of course we walked out of there with more than the Bordeaux sauce! So there I was, on my way to pick up a Papa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza, when I decided to check out the candy store that's been there for five years. I'm a regular at See's Candy, and I know that I can buy my favorites by the piece, and it usually satisfies me. My favorite has long been the dark chocolate Bordeaux. Nothing compares to it in my mind, but I do like to continually conduct research. All this background should lead you to believe that I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to chocolate, but, given the right situation (something like 'availability'), I'd eat any available chocolate. As I walked in I was the only customer and there were four people working. One was cleaning and the other three were in some version of candy making. It was like I was walking into their kitchen. They were very friendly and they explained to me that they did not do what See's does. You can't buy a single piece of their candy, but they did let me sample. This is always a good thing, and I got to try their version of Bordeaux. It was a bit different, but still very tasty. As we spoke, they explained to me how they make custom orders, and on this day they were dressing up Oreo cookies with a glaze that allowed them to put on custom art. As I was there the cookies were taking on the look of a small cake, but the art was still going to be applied. To wind this up a bit, imagine that you've entered into a small chocolate factory with pleasant people working to make you feel comfortable. They stop what they're doing to help you to feel as comfortable as possible, given you a sample and worked with you to make a purchase. That's this place. It's a small locally owned place working to provide chocolate to the Carson Valley. They're employing people in the valley and improving the air quality by providing the residents with a local option not requiring a trip to Reno for See's candy. You can't buy single piece, but you'll be happy to buy a few pieces. It's a safe bet to add 'The Chocolate Shoppe' to the list of local places worth a visit read more

They also happen to be a "Few of my Favorite Things", if you couldn't hum along with that in my head! Divine decadence is hidden away in the corner of a Raley's shopping center in Minden. But follow your nose to the door of this well decorated storefront, and step into a wonderland of chocolate where you'll first be faced with a sensory overload from the sheer selection. To stop your salivary glands from going into overload, step up to the counter and ask for sample. Then prepare to satisfy your sweet tooth with any one of the amazing handmade products that are sitting on the shelf. Though I was in love with their peanut butter cups and toffee, I chose a pack of peppermint patties and sweet and salty caramels. The peppermint patties were bigger than a silver dollar, and the fiancee took to them with a knife and fork when I brought them home. I never knew chocolate could be consumed in quite this way, but hey, who am I to judge. The caramels were these rich and chewy bon bon shaped beauties with a healthy sprinkling of sea salt right on top. I too cut these into pieces to control my consumption. The creations at the Chocolate Shoppe are something special, and well worth a trip to the beautiful Carson Valley.
