What an amazingly fun evening spent with David our chocolate master as he taught our group the art of truffle making last night! Chocolate Tales is a service business so it does not have a bricks and mortar location, however that doesn't stop them from servicing Southern Ontario at an assortment of host venues all over the 416 and 905. One of their regular locations is the Goemans Appliance store located on Chirsalea rd in Vaughan, which is where we took our class last night. David sets up a tasty, interactive and fun learning kitchen right in one of their working model kitchens. Wasting no time he took our group through a brief history of chocolate before bridging the history lesson into the type of chocolate we'd be making that night - Truffles! I'm no expert at making chocolates but with David's easy to follow approach to chocolate making anyone (even a guy like me who is all thumbs) feel like a master Chocolatier! Over the course of 2 hours we made about 20+ truffles each (whilst eating a lot of the supplies along the way). The class is casual, fun, interactive and easy (good for all skill levels) David was very reassuring throughout and I can totally see myself booking a session like this for a private group of friends in the future! Speaking of other bookings, I recommend you check out the chocolate tales website to see all the different kinds of events they do, which are perfect for Bachelorette parties, girls nights out, kids birthday, etc, etc A great way to break up the work week and hey... i got chocolate out of the deal!! Eatcrest Out!

Our Vaughan's "truffles making workshop" takes place at Goemans Appliances, the kitchen appliance store (a maze of refrigerators and ovens, and a working kitchen). Water and coffee are provided, as well as - GENEROUS amount of chocolate - generous amount of decorations - a big fridge to cool the chocolates asap - the microwave to keep the chocolates warm and easy to work with - did I mention the GENEROUS amount of chocolate? Even if you're tempted to snack on everything, there will be ample left. And: A history lesson on chocolate. Lots of laughter. Daniel is our talented chocolatier and teacher. He's super friendly and the class was well-organized. He kept our working area clean, nobody fought for space or tools, and he kept the class moving fairly quickly. I was afraid chocolate will drip onto my camera, it didn't. Liquidy chocolate is messy!!! In our class, we did: Truffle set #1: fill pre-made truffle cups Truffle set #2: stamp shapes out of a soft chocolate bar, mine were triangles. Truffle set #3: roll the remaining soft chocolate bar into little chocolate balls We dip all of the above into his beautiful, tempered chocolate and decorate. I made a snowman. I recommend this delicious class!!

What a fun and interactive way to spend the evening! I did the chocolate truffle workshop at the Vaughan location inside the Geomans Appliances store. The workshop took place in this beautiful functioning model kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances and kept in spotless condition. David was such an awesome chocolate master. He started off the workshop with a fun history lesson on chocolate. And we got to make our own chocolate truffles (different variety of truffles). I had no experiences with making truffles before but David made it easy and fun. A generous amount of chocolate supplies were provided. We got to snack on the chocolate and toppings as we were making our truffles. The best part of the workshop was that we got to take our finished products home in nice little gift bags and boxes. They tasted so rich and heavenly. I made about 25 pieces of truffle to take home; well not all 25 of them survived the car ride home as I couldn't resist the temptation of putting them in my mouth (don't judge, you can't pass on such good chocolate :)) Overall, we had a great evening. This workshop is a great idea for girls night out, birthday party, or bachelorret events. Will definitely return for future events.

I went to the yelp event and had an amazing time!! Our host Dave was super nice and very informative. I learned a lot about chocolates, Truffles and the background of chocolate making. We filled chocolate shells and decorated them. I had the most fun covering them in chocolate and getting my hands dirty. Making the truffles was just as fun. you cut them into shapes and dip them in chocolate. While still wet you can coat them in 5 different materials (design prints, milk chocolate crunch, dark chocolate crunch, coco powder, maple crunch). I loved it so much I rold my friend who is getting married she needs to heir them and my sister in law to get them for my niece and nephew's birthday parties. I highly recommend everyone try the. more than once!!! Who doesnt love chocolate!! And the white chocolate gnash is to die for

Great nut free macaron making class. We arrived a bit late but the instructor was very nice. I was surprised at how easy it was to make macarons - I have taken a regular (almond flour) macaron making class which was much more expensive (I did use a groupon for this class) and it was much more complicated and a more "delicate" process and the results were not as good as this. Pros: -NOW this is what I call a REAL class - each of us made our own macarons - our own blender and bowls and we didn't have to share anything other than maybe a recipe card which we didn't even need since the instructor had everything measured out. What I find annoying about other classes is that you work in groups and then cannot be responsible for the dish fully from start to finish or half the class is really just watching someone else cook. -Technique was more simple than the "french or italian method" of making the usual almond macarons -Instructor was great and energetic and very helpful - though I think she may have either needed more time or she could have used a smaller class or had us only make half the dough and save the rest to make at home. Cons: - More like suggestions for the class to improve.... state that it is 3 hours instead of 2, so the instructor doesnt need to rush and it is always much nicer to finish class early. - maybe test out the ovens first or have the trays timed perfectly so that the baking has fully finished before going on with the class instructions. It is hard to coordinate and also the sizes of the macarons were all different from person to person. - Pre make the ganache - so that it has cooled a bit and saves time, the demo can be done quickly but the prepped ganache can be used. - also, the company should make it easier to contact them by phone on weekends when classes are running.....I was late and would have liked to let them know, plus it was awkward looking for the place, since the class was held in an appliance store. (Great kitchen though btw). I say the cons more as suggestions because in my class there was a particularly belligerent mother who came in with her daughters and was unhappy with the results of her macarons. The first batch came out hard like cookies as with others. She made this known to the instructor in front of the class as if she was speaking for all of us. She kept complaining that she spent soooooooo much money on this class and it did not turn out like "real french macarons". First off - when you make a substitute for any ingredient of the original recipe (nut free) you cannot expect it to be exactly like the original (btw the good batch I had was pretty darn close to the original). Second, she made her own from start to finish and cannot even take any responsibility for the fact that maybe her technique just sucked. And 3rd, she kept complaining that it was sooo expensive! - She also had a groupon, but I think it was reasonable for what we got and like I said better than the "original macaron class" I took through another company and better results and this cost less. If this woman wanted original almond and exactly french macarons - which are difficult to make (hence the 3-4$ per macaron) then she should've taken some freakin Cordon Blu class on french pastries and paid an arm and a leg. Yes - so in the end my beef was more about this annoying mother who simply wanted her money back. I even gave her one of my good batch cookies so she can see it actually does turn out good. She was just a bully, non tactful. One star off and suggestions to improve and I am sure they will be a 5 star! I would recommend this class.

3 stars for a few reasons. 1) This is a chocolate DECORATING class, not a chocolate MAKING class. We didn't learn how to make chocolate using raw ingredients. Instead we were given slabs of chocolate, cookie cutter tools specifically for candy making, melted chocolate (milk and white), and toppings like shredded coconut, coco powder and maple bits to decorate the chocolate. We were also given cupcake sized mini foil cups with chocolate cake batter and got to decorate those with chocolate (these were supposed to be lava cakes...but there was no lava). 2) This was a 90 min class and too long imo for decorating 8 pieces of chocolate. The instructor, Julia, was a pleasure to work with. We also got to taste dark chocolate Ganache mixed with various flavours bur how those flavoured chocolate ganaches were made was not shown. They were premade unfortunately. It was a fun thing to do once but I wouldn't go again. It's a great idea for a children's party.

About to be turned into truffles.

Soma chocolate maker is by far one of the best chocolatiers I've tried in the city. The flavors they have available for truffles and chocolate bars really make it a sensorial experience. It was HARD to not try and get every single thing they have -- including the hot chocolate and ice cream flavors. If they have it available, you MUST try the comet. there's just something so dreamy about chocolate and fruit. the comet is essentially a macadamia nut covered by milk chocolate, pistachios, passion fruit flavors, and dusted in cacao powder. I'm literally gonna go back before they close in an hour just to get a couple more to take home for friends! It's THAT good! We also tried a few truffles like the cacao nib, milk chocolate almond, and yuzu with white chocolate all in all, if you're looking for quality, thoughtfully crafted chocolates -- either for yourself, a lover, or to gift, I strongly reco stopping by.

A lot of options available at this shop and great spot for gifts or stocking stuffers. A bit pricey in my opinion and I haven't personally tried their chocolates prior to visiting this shop. Keep in mind, I noticed there were a lot of products that contained nuts so be mindful if you or someone you want to gift has any allergies. Overall, it seems more like a takeout spot to grab and take to with you. They have a selection of coffee and hot chocolate to choose from as well. Service was A-OK, no complaints but don't forget to bring a reusable bag or you'll have to pay for a paper bag to put your chocolate goods in.

The display and pricing is clear, though I wish they had more descriptions under each flavour name. Like for example, which ones are crunchy? (Their website gives very thorough descriptions.) After taking a look around and chatting with the workers a bit, we had to get a box of 1 of every flavour. My absolute fav was the Raspberry Black Sesame, which made me go wow as soon as I took a bite. Slight crunch of the sesame offering a nice rich nuttiness, and the raspberry offered a tart contrast. Close second was the Pineapple Tatin. Kind of reminded me of a Taiwanese pineapple pastry. Every piece had its ingredients shine through, and the chocolate was not too sweet. We savoured the single box for days, going through 1-2 a day, and we so so look forward to trying more from this shop. Prices are quite steep, but I think they match the taste, quality, and design.
